  • One query..

I wanna mount some other horn instead of stock on my R15... I don't want double horn or TOO LOUD horn, but it should not sound as like stock (It sounds like scooty horn )

I asked in Yamaha, they told me not to change it coz it can cause coolent leakage even Sarvajit told me same..

    Anyone here who changed horn?

    Comment

    • get a bigger horn of your choice and mount it to some other bolt but not at the place where the stock horn is mounted.

Bigger horns make much more vibrations and the horn mount is on the radiator and the attachment is with metal pressing and not welding. With the extra vibrations the radiators are leaking coolant after a while as the mount is getting disturbed.

      • hmm, any other place where I can place the horn?? do you know?? I want it to be changed soon

          • ^^^ I did't get my stand yet... but I have posted closeup shots of the stand over a month ago in this thread.

That stand is ditto ditto the FS250 (Vixion) stand. I wouldn't be surprised if Yamaha are importing that one too from Indonesia.

I am making a wish list to get from Indonesia (Vixion stuff) - grab rail, center stand (of course, available here), radiator guard (after market), toe & heal gear shifter, handlebar, if possible, the left side mirror holder on handlebar (right side one is already there), both the RVM's, hmmm.. what else???

            @DigiSlayer
The Vixion has 5 clutch plates & 4 friction plates for being a 5 speed gear box... as opposed to the 4 clutch plates & 5 friction plates we were discussing earlier for R15. Would you please check this up again...

Also, that pipe under the tank we were discussing here a few days ago joins in between the air cleaner & throttle body.

Now the reserve meter is hardly reliable. I reset the 2nd tripmeter when the reserve meter comes up during running. Later on sometimes it gets reset again, but I rely on the first time I reset it. Try my method&tell me what she returned.

I opened the tank cap today, in the morning, and the fuel is upto to the brim. The level hasnt gone down like you mentioned. Its as much as it was yesterday!

Go to a puncture repair shop where they do tubeless also. They will force the nail out&then put in the paste which seals it off. Don't allow them to take out the tyre from the rim in anycase.
In future, I suggest you keep a tubeless repair kit with you-I got one for my bike for Rs.300 or so from a tyre shop at Sec'bad. You can get it easily anywhere. It is a must, especially when touring.[/quote]

I removed the nail. It was a small one. It pierced in with an angle, so thought of pulling it out by myself. Rode it for 40kms in the evening. No loss of air pressure.

Mark that place and on the sidewall about its location before the rubber where the nail went in gets closed. Use a marker or even nail polish. There might be a tiny leak that can become bigger later on... then you'd know where to seal it.

How much would an aftermarket radiator cost? I am keen to get one as the radiator is pretty much vulnerable.

Those few things would turn my R15 into a good tourer.

Let me know if someone is coming from Indonesia.

The R15 has 4 clutch plates only, and the part numbers of vixion clutch plates are same as that of the R15..which means they're exactly the same!
And btw, the vixion also has only 4 clutch plates..just checked archi's link, please re-check. regarding the friction plates, the R15 has 4 plates of Friction-3, and one plate of Friction-2. The vixion on the other hand a different configuration of friction plates.

And that pipe is supposed to be left open at one end na? How come it's joins both throttle and air cleaner?

Damn! you shouldn't have done that..what I previously meant was to leave the nail like that only. That's cos the nail seals the puncture, which'll get opened if you remove the nail..thus making a repair necessary. Too many puncture repairs for a single tyre is not healthy. And, you didn't notice a drop in air pressure cos the tubeless tyres don't loose pressure while riding. They loose air when the bike is sitting idle..i'm sure you'll need a puncture repair now.

Okay, I went back to the book (part list) and found the reason for the confusion. I (and most people I spoke to) know the clutch plates as the cork (kind of) plates that we change frequently and the friction plates as those metal plates between them. But Yamaha refers to them the other way round. Dunno who is technically correct!

Check the above diagram now. The Red marked ones are the clutch plates (according to me ) 5 in number, 3 different types and the Blue marked ones are the metal plates 4 in number.

So, the R15 has the same setup but an extra 6th gear!

Okay, now, where is the clutch bell bush that most of our bikes need a change? Is it #30 from above?

And that pipe is supposed to be left open at one end na? How come it's joins both throttle and air cleaner?
one end is closed. the other end joins between the air cleaner & the throttle body. It is definitely there on a purpose with the existing design itself and not for something to be added or cutoff in final production.

                            • Hi guys:

Some update on my bike. After the accident it was obviously screwed. Got it back a few days back and since then I had a lot of problems so I visited Pearl SS today for checkup.

                              1) Engine not smooth and hell of vibrations- Reason: Tappets loose. Im in the club, got it fixed. One sign I could figure out that the engine grunt reduces and also the bike refuses to take acceleration. Anyone facing same has high chances that tappets are loose.
                              2) Engine over heating.
                              3) Handle bar screwed. Replaced 1, I'll replace the other one tomorrow. Dont ask how both!!!

After all these I am a little more confident while braking and speeding up but I still feel the bike not 100%. Once the factory setting are lost, they are lost forever.!! My bike: 4 Months old, 4800 Kms.

@HybdBiker:The main stand for R15 was not available today but they (Pearl) will have it by Monday. Better you book it on phone on Saturday.
                              Fear is the Trigger!
