  • Went to the SS to get the bike checked. They are clueless, why the bike is sluggish and the reason for vibes. When asked about the tapets he said they are fine even at 10500 kms, and need no adjustment. Can it be because of the spark plug? Anyways I am planning to get the spark plug changed, which one do you guys suggest?

Thats not possible. The tappets get loose for sure and that too earlier than what the SS guys told you. I'd recommend you to get it checked somewhere else. Isnt that SS guys are supposed to check whatever the customer wants? After all we are paying for the job!!!

Change the spark plug. I'd recommend Iridium IX. Not because its some "high Performance" thing but because it will keep you from cleaning it. Iridium is reliable and requires low to no maintaince. Once installed, you can relax for another 8-10K kms. The SS guys at Yamaha never clean the spark plug in their lives.

You can go for NGK G Power(platinum) spark plug model no NGK CR8EGP , costs 140Rs.

The SS guys say that there will be a tik-tik sound when the tapets get loose, so no need to do it now eve when I insisted a lot for checking. I believe mine will be first one for which they will be adjusting the tapets and they are scared to do anything. And there is no other place here where I can get it checked.
Thanks for the spark plug info. will get a NGK Iridium.

          @ surbhit

Thanks mate, as Iridium has less maintenance, I will go for it.

          • ^^ Iridium is more than thrice the cost of GPower and is not good value, also I have used both Iridium and GPower and there is no difference in performance. Just my opinion rest is your choice.

The Iridium lasts much longer than the GPower supposedly, therefore the cost difference. There shouldn't be a difference in performance by changing spark plugs anyways.

What kind of sound does your bike make? I would suggest you park the bike, get down near the engine&hear when you are revving. If you hear something like loose marbles, it is a sure shot tappet case.

That is not an excuse when the manual says it needs to be adjusted at 6K kms. Just check in the maintenance chart&tell them that they need to follow all the steps mentioned there, else you'll complain to higher-ups about unsatisfactory/incomplete service.

Platinum itself is long life thing... but at 3.5 times the cost of Platinum, I don't see the Iridium plug's price justification.

I agree with you mate, but I am planning to get the Iridium because of its lesser maintenance but still I will consider your suggestion.

I have tried that many times, no help from Yamaha. There is not even a single trained mech. here. Last time got the front cowl changed and these guys here were clueless how to open it, only after working for 4 long hours of contineuos work by two mech. they were able to change it. The only option I see as of now is get them adjusted when I ride down to Delhi.

Which city is this? Didn't the mechs attend the training sessions before the bike was launched?

Anyways, it costs Rs.1450 per bottle&he claims it can be used 20-25 times. I will pick it up mostly this Saturday.
Good news! Do let us know the results.

Yes, this one is water repellent & dust resistant. No product code it seems. Just the name as mentioned above in quotes. The OKS engineer suggested to stick to 451 chain lube for o-ring chains for personal use and the product in question is only for service centers.

The reason as per him is that this lube needs the chain to be absolutely clean & dry before application and should be applied after a full cleaning in the service center. I am thinking that we can use this product (if it can last long) with an occasional chain cleaning with kerosene!

The 451 however can be used even with some dirt on the chain. Even when we use degreaser all the dirt doesn't go away.

Forgot to ask if this lasts longer than the 451. Also as per the magazine the cost is Rs 220 - whereas the 451's MRP is Rs 370. The text on the 451 can reads - "Adhesive Chain Lubricant Spray" !!!
I think, we can clean the chain thoroughly with kerosene once in a while and lube it with OKS mentioned in BI. It sounds more reliable and economical. It'd be a good bet in monsoons!

I got mybikes chain pullers adjusted today and found the bike to be butter smooth. Man, now I know what was I loosing on all these days after 2nd service. Chain was very tight and I couldnt even realise that!

Strange incident: I ran her for over 100kms in reserve and fueled upto the brim, and to my surprise, there was almost 2lts of fuel left in the tank!
Guess what, mileage for the previous tank-full(upto the brim) comes around 51kmpl mark! I rode her with tight chain for almost 400kms. I wonder how much mileage she would have returned if it was adjusted right in the 2nd service. Now, guys, dont be jelous.

                            Cheers!

You'll need to wait for that for a couple of weeks, till my next service. Need to get a few other adjustments done in the meanwhile as well.

I'm getting only the Yamalube chain spray&will ask the SVC guys to clean it with whatever degreaser spray they like-Motul or local. Then, instead of allowing them to use Motul, I'll carry my Yamalube can&ask them to use it.

Over-tightening the chain leads it to squeak. Its better to keep it a bit looser than what is recommended. Even if the chain is lubricated, sometimes the sprocket makes noise, this has happened to me for the 2nd time. Sprocket needs to be well lubricated&if necessary greased too.

Don't mind, but I think your fuel meter maybe faulty. How are you measuring mileage btw? There is a thread here on how to do that as well. I have been following the reserve to reserve for all my bikes since the last 8 years.

I follow tank-full to tank-full method. I fill the tank upto the brim.
Btw, do you have the spoilt pilot LED of your bike which you replaced recently? i wish to have a look at the socket.

I found a nail pierced in the rear wheel, today, while cleaning the bike. Its a small nail. I am not sure if it has reached the other side of the rubber. This is my first time experience with tubeless tyres. How do I go about it? Where do I get it fixed from? I havent removed the nail yet as it may allow the air to flush out.
