  • Guys, a real huge problem here..

I had been on really dusty roads for the past couple of weeks, so I thought of cleaning the air-filter. After I cleaned it, there is this 'engine error' blinking on the console and the bike makes a loud rattling sound when I start it and goes down. HELP !

it. im not sure, u guys have to say).....but svc guys say that the life span of the front disk pads is just 4000kms. is that true? and moreover they confidently asked me to check the manual for it but i dint find any......
and may i know the exact price of the front disk pads? i was told dat it costs about 500 bucks
Disc pad wear depends on the riding style. You probably use your front brakes a lot. My bike's front disc pads lasted over 15k Kms. Rear is still stock & strong (at 16k).
Front brake pads costed INR 685 earlier, & are now available for INR 390.

Did you check it against the codes in the service manual?
If the SVC is not too far, take the bike there immediately. Take it to one of the better ones, else they will be as confused as you are .

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

      • Am not sure about the servicing part but i can tell you to stick with Yamalube for atleast 3-4K KMs and after that it would your prerogative to change it to SemiSynth or Fully Synthetic.

A question why did you change the engine oil at 300 KM ? and if this is your first service then you should change the oil filter too.

Nearest one is 15kms away and the better equipped one is not less than 30kms !

            • Roughness, vibrations, Harshness!

              Hey guys,

Recently completed a service on my R15 and changed over to Yamalube semi-synth. my bike's clocked 8000km. I feel a lot of vibes thru my handlebar, tank, etc.. Engine mount bolts all checked. Chain fully lubed and tightened to the correct specification (service jus done about 3 days ago). I checked the fairing screws for tightness myself. When i went back to the SVC the damn mech says "The bike was jus serviced and oil was jus changed saar, ride for a week and it should smoothen out.." Yeah right! I've ridden 300km since the service with no change, and when i told him that he jus said "come back in a week if there's still a problem".

The vibes are quite bad, my hands go numb after a 50km ride although i wear gloves! Any help on this guys? And i wasnt present during the service so i dont know if they've actually put in authentic engine oil.. The last service at this SVC was quite good.. Pacer Yamaha in Kammanhalli, Bangalore. If any of u guys faced this issue earlier, kindly tell me what you'll did to rectify this.. Its quite upsetting when a bike thats supposed to be smooth behaves like this..
              Thanks guys!

P.S. - Rear disk pads were also changed, and a 'disk overhaul' was suggested by the svc. now there is a squeal whenever i use the rear brake. The mech says its coz of dust/dirt stuck between the pad & disk, and he advised me to jus pour water on the disk whenever it happens... ?????

Paddock stands are only meant for the rear wheel. I've not seen anyone till date hoisting the bike up using two paddock stands on both eh wheels! :P

                • Guys, I need a better place to get my bike serviced.
Yesterday my bike was bumped while it was parked below the building and A guy broke the left handside indicator. I got it fixed from the malad yamaha factory servicing center. And the bloody indicator came off while coming to Phoenix mills.

Any other decent place in mumbai to get my r15 serviced?

I didn't really get what you meant, but is this what you're asking for..

The "engine warning error" on the console gives out one long blink and four short blinks !

I couldn't find anything about them in the manual.

                          ok..lemme see
                          well, vibrations are due to
                          1- engine mount bolts
                          2- tappets
                          ,generally

                          moreover, you clocked 8k
it is the time to check your tappets/valve clearance

i am quite sure in your case the real culprits are the tappets

it depends upon your riding style
if you revv hard then you need to check the tappets as they get loose

currently i am facing the same problem
i am going to get my tappets done

well, in my case i covered 400 kms in a single day (bhopal - indore, indore-bhopal) and the speedo never showed speeds below 110 km/hr.
its now time for me to check the tappets

check service manual it is mentioned there to check the valve clearance after 6000 kms.

Im sure the SVC hasnt checked tappets or valve clearances.. Will get that done. My ridin has mixed styles of sedate cruising/commuting and all-out burnin the tarmac! But yeah, since i've done 8k kms i shud get this checked.. No 'loose marbles' kinda sound tho, which is said to be the first sign of tappets needing adjustments. Will post an update once i check this at the SVC. Thanks man!!

                              • ^^It probably means that the caliper pistons will be cleaned and the piston and dust seals replaced.
