Btw, OKS is doing great! It lasts very long. Chain could sustain 700kms+. There was no noise whatsoever! But, still, I lubed it today coz it looked dry. There was no much lube on the chain.

Why dont you grab OKS instead? It is cheaper and better!
I have been using Motul and it lasts for 1000kms. City riding only!

@Sarvajit: I am not looking for something Disco But will check it out at Koti what they've got! Thanks.

          • Just some food for thought for all of you!

            YouTube - indonesian vixion turbo

That should clear the doubts of most of the people who laughed when the words R15 and Turbo appeared together! When a vixion can accept turbo, an R15 should too!

And regarding the transmission efficiency of the Yamahas, following shows dyno chart of a vixion:

            (Source: Dyno : Honda Tiger : Yamaha V-Ixion : Ninja 250R Taufik & Motorcycle )

The company claims 14.88ps for Vixion, and the dyno shows 13.98hp!

Even if we take that as 14.88hp claimed, we have 93.95% eficiency of the transmission! Or is it that Yamaha claims rear wheel power numbers instead of engine HP numbers? :|

            • ^^No manufacturer would stake their reputation by giving out RWHP figures mate
All these RWHP tests are done privately and AFAIK will differ from one specimen of the bike to another and also between dyno runs too.

What's the number of the product. The one we use is OKS 451.

About the stock horn - it is Type 2A which is standard for motorcycles. To my knowledge it is rated at 3.5Amps.

The one on mine is adjusted to possibly max. extent. But, I dont find it good enough. Vehicles ahead of me dont realise my presence most of the times when I honk. I'd better install a louder one.

Well, the product code is not mentioned. What I see is they are diff from the ones we use. Cans have bike pics over em. They are priced at Rs.220 each. There is a contact num-080-41240201

Any idea regarding horn's frequency, sound type, etc?

                    • okay... here is some info about the "OKS Chain Lube Spray" mentioned in Bike India April 2009.

Yes, this one is water repellent & dust resistant. No product code it seems. Just the name as mentioned above in quotes. The OKS engineer suggested to stick to 451 chain lube for o-ring chains for personal use and the product in question is only for service centers.

The reason as per him is that this lube needs the chain to be absolutely clean & dry before application and should be applied after a full cleaning in the service center. I am thinking that we can use this product (if it can last long) with an occasional chain cleaning with kerosene!

The 451 however can be used even with some dirt on the chain. Even when we use degreaser all the dirt doesn't go away.

Forgot to ask if this lasts longer than the 451. Also as per the magazine the cost is Rs 220 - whereas the 451's MRP is Rs 370. The text on the 451 can reads - "Adhesive Chain Lubricant Spray" !!!

                      • @Srijan: Thanks for the info. I just called up Opal Motors&they say that they have received stock of the Yamalube chain spray 'from Japan'.
Anyways, it costs Rs.1450 per bottle&he claims it can be used 20-25 times. I will pick it up mostly this Saturday.

@HydBiker: You were right about R15s changing character at 6K, I think they need more attention henceforth though. My bike needs the following:
                        1. Chain&sprocket to be properly lubed, so it will be silent atleast for a month. I donno whether its wrong lubing or dissatisfactory life of Motul, but I wanna try out with Yamalube.
                        2. Air Induction Box Cleaning&refit- thanks to Jayan here, I would have not been able to identify the farting problem, as it is a one-off case.
                        3. Tappet valve clearance adjustment- I am pretty sure the tappets are loose now. They have never been adjusted&I am going to oversee this in person at the next Service.

One doubt however: I have noticed that tappets tend to get loose in all vehicles (more so in a high revving vehicle like the R15). Ajusting the valve clearances keeps them silent for a few months. In my Fiero F2's case it is about 6 months at the max. My question is: Since we do high speeds on touring&take the bikes to the high revs in city almost daily, will the tappets get loose every couple of months or so?
The reason for asking this is in R15 the tappets seem to be affecting the smoothness more than in other bikes.
Could others also please share their opinions?

                        • In my first service the mech told that tappets will be adjusted at 10k. And he said your bike will be smoother than others(it already is) as you have changed oil pretty frequently(engine run in in my case)

                          • While riding to work today I had slotted the bike into 6th and wanted to take it to 7k rpm. The needle rose to 6k and despite twisting the throttle further, the needle refused to budge from 6k and the speedo also did not move from the 86kmph that I was doing. I dropped a gear and shifted up again. This time there were no issues as it happily revved past 6k but Im worried about what happened. Has it happened to anyone else ? Help !

Yeah, its a common thing when the bike is new. I remember speedo getting stuck at 111kmph. I just reved and reved but nothing happened. Such behaviors by the bike is common specially when its new. Another 1-2K kms and it will be fine. As I always said: Do not be very judgemental about R15. After 2nd service your bike will be like never before.
