    Thanks Abhimanyu
Yep the piston was locked due to air lock. Got the caliper dismantled, cleaned it thoroughly, bleeded and set the brakes. Will observe the brakes and free movement for a while.

Another problem that I observed after this servicing, was vibes creeping in . I have a Joeled setup and it has been slightly more vibey than stock setup. But post this servicing vibes were pretty much evident with revving. I checked for engine mounting bolts, swingarm and monoshock joints/bolts but couldn't find any issue. We were clueless even after inspecting these joints. The vibes increases with the RPM and are restricted only to tank.

In this servicing I have started using Petronas Sprinta 10W40. Earlier I have been religiously using 300V 15W50. Could this be the cause of drastic increase of vibes.

^^^ the oil viscosity can have a big effect on the engine and it's moving parts. I suggest you go back to the original grade of oil. Also if you have the FFE, I suggest that you check the state of the glass wool in it.

The grade of new oil is 10W40. And it's been just 1 week I stuffed the wool again and overhauled the exhaust(Kinda of stuff it more frequently). I suspect oil as of now.

        • Joel recommends 15w50, he prefers Agip over Motul, I couldn't find the Agip in Goa, so have been using the Motul, I always find new oil needs a little run in time before it hits it's sweet spot, I get a few false neutrals over the 1st couple of hundred km's, after that they seem to disappear, vibrations seem to be more at first also.

Same here. Finding Agip around is difficult. But with Motul, I hardly had any vibes issue. Even the 2500 Kms used Motul oil was smoother than Petronas. I know it is too early to compare and comment. I shall wait for another 1000 Kms and revert back to Motul.

            • hey guys i am going to replace all my friction and clutch plates. before opening up i would like to know whether you need that special tool to prevent rotation while removing the clutch boss nut. is it possible to remove it without the tool. some one plz reply. i only have one spare gasket. so dont want to open it and then close it back unnecessarily without replacing the plates.

              • Couple of questions:

Can we use 20 W 50 Oil Semi synthetic oil with a new oil filter and are there any cons on using the same? Also would like to know if there is anyone who is using Servo or Shell based brands on their V1 with the full details.

From couple of days i am feeling the gear shifting of 1st gear to 2nd has become a little rough, as i have done some real ripping rides and my oil change was merely 700 kms, and my bike is 21000 kms, so is that a clutch plate issue ?

I was thinking to start flushing the coolant and refilling it at around 25000 kms, so would like to know which is the good brand to go for and the procedure of the same?

From last few days i am unable to listen/feel the radiator fan running up even after city riding for long time or highway ripping as earlier it used to heat up and dissapate heat which i could feel and its gone down now, any procedure to do a self check whether the fan and radiator are working fine and intact ?

No. Stick to stock profile or rather stock MRF tyres. They are best for the purpose.

No, the KTM Duke tyres doesn't fit on R15.

The maximum tyre profile for R15 v1 is Rear (120/xx-17) and Front (100/xx-17)

Tried and tested but wouldn't recommend. You would get the looks and lose out on everything...

^^^ I have never really understood the obsession with wider, bigger tyres!!! Right from my first bike (RX100) which had a 2.75 x 18, I use to see people pocking 3.00 x 18 tyre, I see people are more obsessed with how the bike looks than how it handles. It always leaves me a little bit bewildered. Personally, after trying the V.2, I felt that Yamaha took a step backwards by listening to these demands for a wider, beefier look. I thank god that I was gifted a V.1 and not V.2.

                        • My v2 had lots of vibrations and the sound was like piston scratching against cylinder without oil.
Yesterday cleaned my air filter and increased the idle RPM from 1.2K to 1.5K and voila vibrations gone completely and the bike feels butter smooth.

                          Inference :
R15s used to run on leaner fuel ratio if the Idle rpm is low.
This causes the bike to vibrate more.

@ abhimanyu. : I am not really obsessed with wider tyres just for the looks. The handling matters more than anything. But in a place like mumbai, marred with potholes, half concrete-half pavement blocks roads, level difference in the roads, the thin tyres just give me no confidence at all. It seems as if i am going to crash going into the pothole with that thin tyre. That's my only concern ! The bike wobbles so much. And personally i feel, riding pleasure is at its peak when u have complete confidence over your machine's ability. I am planning to change my tyres as they have run 28k kms and put wider profile tyres. That is unless u convince me against it

Yes, 20W50 is ok, esp feels better in summer.

I've tried Yamalube and Motul 5100. No idea about Shell. I didn't like Servo in my P150 in 2004-05, so never purchased it again.

Do you feel any loss in pick-up or FE. If not then Clutch plates are good.
As bikes like R15, CBR250, RTR, P220 ie performance oriented bikes, grow old, 1st to 2nd gear change does makes feels a little rougher.
If, and when, you change clutch plates, check if there is any play between Primary gear and clutch plate housing.

I was thinking to start flushing the coolant and refilling it at around 25000 kms, so would like to know which is the good brand to go for and the procedure of the same?

I use Motul. 25K Km is too much if you havn't flushed it yet. At service center, remove the radiator assembly. tell the water service guy to pressure flush it. Then put new coolent and water in it.

From last few days i am unable to listen/feel the radiator fan running up even after city riding for long time or highway ripping as earlier it used to heat up and dissapate heat which i could feel and its gone down now, any procedure to do a self check whether the fan and radiator are working fine and intact ?

It's winter, dude ! No worries. We have warning light for overheating. Even in summers, ON HIGHWAY HIGH SPEED RIDES, the fan is very rarely switched on.
In traffic, it should come ON, but due to lower surrounding temps, it's not.

                              My Opinions are in BOLD
