hello Xbhpians
at last i bought used R15 ,red color, june 2010 model in 55000 rs. from chandigarh.its odo reading is 27000 Kms.but its conditions say its new as chandigarh roads are perfect.

i drive r15 first time in my life from chandigarh to my home about 150 kms.
i feel its power during this ride.also a decent mileage of 45 kmpl @ speed of 70~90 kmph mostly.
      overall its ultimate machine......

battery was dead as it was not used since last 2 month. have to push start with little push . i bought a new amron 5 Ah battery having 48 months warranty 1100 Rs. after reaching home.there was a amron 7Ah battery @1400Rs. but it has some extra 1 inch height so i doubt in its fitting.is 7Ah battery compatible with our bike?

there is a minor scratch on right side cowl
as i see in pics below.......

tyre are having about 50% life
front tyre is Michelin pilot 90-90-17
rear is mrf nylogrip zapper C of 120-80-17 ....

handle was loose when ride on brick roed it makes noise so get it corrected myself
now its fine and no noice.

chain is new but looks very dirty so have to clean it .how to clean the chain kerosene or diesel or water+surf ?

fuel tank has water like liquid so removed the tank and clean it .a sponge material in fuel pump has some rust ,clean it throughly with patrol's stream.refitted it and pour fresh patrol as old patrol was faded in color.

front brake are very sharp but make some scratching noise and some ghad sound when apply at low speed 10-20 kmph.
rear brake master cylinder has low on break oil so topup it with dot 4 .

clean the air filter as it lose dust when i strike it agains wall.

main light switch having problem it work only in some middle point. open the both handle switch gears and clean it with patrol and apply some vasalene cream as grease.now these are working fine.

was making some noise from tail section after opening seat found rear light bulb was loose and was out side from its place. then i replace it .noise gone.

checked spark plug .is color and conditions of spark plug is normal or should i changed. is iridium plug good for r15 as my daily driving distance is about 15 kms. if yes what iridium plug is suggested.

after closer inspection of full bike @home i found a rubber cut mark at middle of air cleaner box & throttle body, from where it sucks air making some noise of dug-dug
      when accelerate.

last day it shows a light blink 2nd last.

today i m planning to go yamaha ASC.as its 70 KMS far from my home town. to buy air cleaner joint rubber & have to check its compression (to confirm the engine's good health) .
as it make some ghad ghad noise @ idling.

what mobile oil should i use.as i will never redline my bike. max speed for me is 80 -90 kmph only on highway. but mostly i ride in city @ max 60kmph.
tried to get motul but no availability here.what about castrol 10w40 power 1.

      • Re: Yamaha YZF-R15

I am experiencing a wierd issue since past month on my 2008 r15 v1 with around 26.5k on odo, I personally service it as per manual. Bike is ridden quite hard.

I can't (almost all the time) shift to neutral from 1st. If I try harder increasing pressure, it clicks into 2nd and then I can shift to neutral. Every once in a while I can get it into neutral just as effortlessy as I used to, but thats only for 3-4 times and then again it starts as usual. It doesn't matter if bike is still or I am slowing down to stop at red light. I am using it as a commuting vehicle for now so no high revs and harsh riding since past month when it started. The performance is almost as it was.

Also I twice had a 'metal clanging' noise when I shifted to 1st from quite out of its range of speed. Ofcourse I had clutch pulled in, I shifted to first from like 40kmph as there was a yellow light where I was headed and it made a 'kutrrrrrrr' sound as if gears were grinding. I am wondering if that could be related. Also I have those clutch bell issue, pull clutch when in neutral and stand still, sound changes.

I am going to change the bell, but I am asking so that I can know if it is really urgent or it can still run.
Can anyone here point me in right direction, to where should I be digging at to pinpoint the problem?

Congratulations for your new ride . You have taken care of the small problems very well .

For chain , place bike on center stand , softly brush off loose dirt with old toothbrush . Then softly brush with same tooth brush wetted in kerosene , wipe off throughly with soft clean cloth . With same brush again and softly again apply some fresh engine-oil (any type) on the chain evenly all over . Let it sit for a few hours and then wipe off all excess with clean cloth . Adjust chain slack correctly from ASC .

Standard plug is ngk CR8E , g-power equivalent is ngk CR8EGP and iridium equivalent is ngk CR8EIX . Plug looks okay for now . You can try a g-power which is quite cheap and has great performance .

Replace oil with yamalube from ASC when you visit there . And yes you're right , that air-box to carb rubber needs urgent replacement .

The V2 has MRF RevZ S 130/70 17 but you can also take a look at the Michelin Pilot Street Radial 130/70 or the Pirelli Sport Demon 130/70 for an upgrade.

                  • Couple of queries -

                    1. The previous owner of my bike had put in LED indicators (I believe those from a duke) and had put a cut out to ease the load on the battery, I have now changed these to stock indicators. the problem that I face is that this has resulted in a beeping and clicking sound that is continuous. Any Idea how to rectify this issue?

                    2. my front break and clutch levers are loosing paint, I am considering just removing the paint from these levers and using them as is. I feel the plain silver colour will match the bike better than the black ones. Any suggestions on how to remove paint from these levers?

                      Hi Guys,

                      I have a Yamaha R15 V2.0 2013, I had a few queries,

                      1. whenever I am on the move and decelerate and RPM comes between 4.5-3.0 RPM, there is a peculiar noise "tak tak tak" from engine, can anyone help me in understanding what this noise can be?
                      2. If this is from tappets can you help me in suggesting the best service center in Mumbai where I can go and rectify this. I stay in thane, but both the service center's are crap and give excuses instead of resolving this issue.

                          1) If previous owner had just changed them to LED, this shouldn't be happening. I mean if he just plugged and played that indicators and your placing back the stock indicators would not create any weird noises mate. There might be something wrong, not sure. Can you elaborate more on that beeping and clicking thing? is it like one of those signal reminders on activa?

2)Dip them in DOT4 brake fluid overnight. This will remove most paint in form of chiplets when you use a coarse grade sand paper. Remove other paint, which might be harder to get rid off, with a file. Then finish off with finer grade paper. I have done mine, same method to get bright aluminium finish.

If they are tappets loud enough to hear them tick then you should be experiencing a drop in mileage and engine sloppiness.
If performance is unaffected, I would say inspect more. Give us more other details, idling, cold starts, top end figures.

My advise is to try and post in v2.0 thread and find out if someone had similar issue and how it was rectified, that would be your best bet.

                            1. It sounds like the indicator beeper is on continuously along with this there is also a clicking sound, the sound comes from under the seat.

Loose tappets won't result in that much drop in mileage n performance that it will be noticeable
I had the exact same issue at 3.5-5k rpm which was identified as loose tappets still no drop in power mileage

It comes from one of those 3 relays, the blue boxes just beside the locking mechanism of seat.
