  • Re: Yamaha YZF-R15

hi frnds .. just need your valuable suggestions regarding buying a second hand r15 v1 (as i have no option to buy a new v1 due to unavailability ). I have seen few v1 and they are in between 15000-32000 km.. my question is that can r15 deliver a modest performance after 20k run? How do i confirm myself that the fuel pump is OK (as it is too costly)? and 55000 for such v1 will be a good deal? Hope I will get your valuable reply which will help to to buy a perfect v1 thanx in advance

Nobody here can make sure you'll get a perfectly running bike. But read the points in the above post, it should help.
If maintained properly a R15 won't loose its performance after 20k kms.
If you are not able to find a good v1 I suggest buying a v2 coz a new bike is always better

My 2011 R15 has just completed 27k kms, and all parts in it are still stock (except the ones that need periodic changes). I have below queries on replacement of below parts

          1. Battery is not holding charge anymore and needs replacement my query here is can I put a bigger battery to replace the stock.
          2. How to identify if my chain set needs replacement. The number on the swing arm adjuster is on last number.
          3. How to identify if my steering cone needs replacement
          4. For tyres can I use the below sizes
          F - 90/80/17
R - 120/80/17 (pirelli sport demon or Michelin sporty pilot)
Else please suggest where I can get stock tires in hyderabad
          5. Also want to go for a ffe please provide me your opinion on Leo Vincent gp corsa and daytona dagrex (also if it is still available with tomahawk showrooms in hyderabad) (please note this is just for poser value to fulfil an old desire)

Yes I am using pro bike rider amaron with 5A, it runs fine. 60 months warranty
            Power Fitments

            2. How to identify if my chain set needs replacement. The number on the swing arm adjuster is on last number.
Yes that is good indicator, mine is on 6th on V1, it desperately needs replacement. Look for jammed or say stuck links, does the chain make lot of noise when you let off the gas?
            Well there is your answer

            3. How to identify if my steering cone needs replacement
Kut-kut noise from front, too much play in steering column. Try front brakes when pushing the bike with your feet, you will probably find culprit, if there is noise, there is a chance but get it checked from SVC, it can also be loose steering nut also.

            4. For tyres can I use the below sizes
F - 90/80/17 = AFAIK, the only MRF in this size is FY1 stock, which is currently as my showroom sales manager told me, is under recompounding for puncture issues. On front, go for none other than stock, pirelli dont come in this sizes, contigo and michelin dont offer as confidence as FYs. Though I have heard positive reviews of IRC, can't say for sure.
R - 120/80/17 (pirelli sport demon or Michelin sporty pilot) Pirelli sport demon is what I am getting next one, I can vouch for it.But I will be getting 130/70 size.

Thanks for the answers Tanmay, any ideas on the ffe. Also can the 5a battery be fit directly without any modifications

                Yes it can be.
Here is a pic from one of my DIYs, you can see the green amaron 5Ah12V.

No electrical mods done. Everything is stock except a few face lift and handling mods.
No idea of FFE, I always prefer to keep it all stock.
Only tempting idea to me, was the under seat exhaust mod I had once seen on blog.

Yes, R15 can deliver a modest performance after 20k. But it all depends on how it was maintained by previous owner. As mentioned in my previous response, don't rely on ODO. It can be easily tampered in digital world
There no way to check if the pump is healthy. Take this bike for a long ride, if doesn't give any problem and you're satisfied with the condition, buy it. You didn't mention the Model, so can't comment on pricing. I bought mine in last April (model 2010) for 48000 with 27K ODO.

20K kms. is nothing. There are stock bikes here which have crossed a lakh of kms. on the odo.

Yamalube SS costs 550/- and it holds good only for 2k kms max in my r15.
Try shell semisynthetic oils, heard they're cheap and good.

As the guy above said, yamalube too costs around 550. Would last more or less the same.
How about getting motul7100 FS and stretching it to 6k kms?
I agree its costly, but long drain interval so you can put it in and forget it, plus its smoother(I am using it). Costs around 750, don't remember exactly.
