Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Just checked the service manual. According to it, if the thickness of the disc is lesser than 3.5 mm then it needs to be changed. Therefore, check the thickness of the disc with a micro meter. Even my disc has got grooves. It is the quality of the pads which is causing them. However, it is not affecting the performance.Originally posted by tibby View PostOnly a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

I don't have a micro meter. Will see how else I can check the thickness.Originally posted by abhimanyu31 View PostJust checked the service manual. Doesn't a new disc plate cost about INR 1, 500?

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Hey I also have the same sort of serrations on the disc . The braking performance isn't effected , but is there a chance ( I'm just throwing up a wild guess here ) that the disc being that way , can wear out the brake pads sooner ? I'm running out of front brake pads at 8K kms intervals . BTW , just checked for the disc plate cost, was at 1450/- INR .
Having a few other issues with the bike too , hoping somebody can help me out with this. My bike seems to have developed hydrophobia ... If i give it a wash or ride it through the rains , in about 20 mins of doing so it just dies out on me . I lose complete drive and come to a standstill , have to re-start it a couple of times to get it going . It would travel a 100 metres and die down again . This cycle repeats for about 20-25 mins after which it behaves as though nothing was ever wrong with it .
Next is the harsh idling . Bike is idling really harsh and loud but once the clutch is depressed the sound drastically reduces . Kms on the ODO 49220 . Bike is running on the RC165 Big bore and Simota Filter .
Really need some help on this .
People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

Yes. Worn out disc plates will result in quick & uneven consumption of disc pads.Originally posted by nand15 View PostHey I also have the same sort of serrations on the disc . Sounds like an issue of water entering the spark plug (holder I think). Pressure wash by self?
Harsh idling? Try resetting the idling RPM. Adjusting screw below fuel tank, right side.

Nope not pressure wash , regular bucket wash . I also end up avoiding soaking the front end as I earlier had water go into the speedo unit and mess it up .
The idle RPM is around 1200 . I have to reset it to ? It seems to idle at the right RPM just that it makes a truck load of noise while doing so and engaging the clutch seems to kill all the noise .People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Check if the spark plug cap is ok. If not, this problem is know to happen. The other reason is also a not properly tighten spark plug. So check that also.Originally posted by nand15 View PostNope not pressure wash , regular bucket wash . Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
If not the spark plug cap, the stator coil needs rewinding. How old is the bike?
I have faced the same issue on my older bike (2004 Fiero F2) but not yet on my 2008 R15.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
i get some clatter during idling which goes away when i press the clutch. its not too loud though and it seems to be coming from the clutch. i am told that its clutch bell noise. Bike is a 2010 version 1 with 49K kms on the ODO . But all these issues have come up in only the past one month , was perfectly fine untill then .Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostIf not the spark plug cap, the stator coil needs rewinding. How old is the bike?

I had the clutch bell replaced about 3K kms back . I also believe the clutch plates need replacement , feeling a bit of slippage and a lot of freeplay even with regular adjustment .Originally posted by incipient View Posti get some clatter during idling which goes away when i press the clutch. its not too loud though and it seems to be coming from the clutch. i am told that its clutch bell noise. Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
The funny thing about all mechanical things is that they work just fine before they suddenly start acting up... Anyway, as mentioned before check if the spark plug is tightened properly and that the cap is ok. With time and age the rubber gasket that keeps the plug dry hardens and develops tiny cracks which let moisture in, thereby causing the problems mentioned by you.Originally posted by nand15 View PostBike is a 2010 version 1 with 49K kms on the ODO . , still haven't got my hands on my bike as it's stuck at work due to the heavy rains down here ... Another query , I have had to replace the clutch bell twice i the past 6000 kms . It feels good for about a week and then goes back to having a lot of freeplay . The clutch plates were reset about 10kms back , time for a change ?
EDIT : Got the bike back from office , checked the spark plug cap , seemed okay . The plug cap is still soft to touch . plug seems adequately tight as well . I have just attached a pic of the same ..
And here is the video of my bike idling , note the total change in the sound once the cluctch is depressed . Is this normal ?

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
^^^ check the photo closely, there are water stained dirt marks on the plug cap and around the plug. I think you need to re-look at the whole thing again.

Reading seems to be ok. However, check the gap and ensure that the plug is tightened to the correct torque specs.Originally posted by nand15 View PostChecked up on the spark plug today .
