I had hardly some 1.5ltrs of gas when I tanked up. Its just today that I filled gas after the trip. I have covered 1145kms so far with the same fuel. To imagine how I would have ridden, I covered the total distance of 505kms in 7hrs 10mins. That includes one long traffic jam near Palakkad and 2 stops to fill air and riding for 30kms with a flat rear. Stopped for 5 mins for a drink as well.
I did Hyderabad - Nellore 3 times. = 6 journeys of 500 to 520 kms. of them 4 were finished in 7 hours. Other two had long stops in between. When I ride, I take a min 15 min break (pee, water, snack, stretch) every 100 kms or 60-75 mins. One of them would be a longer lunch break. My rides before 3rd service gave me a mileage in decimals of 42 & 43 kmpl. Post 2nd service, one trip (to & fro) gave me below 30 kmpl. Got the bike checked, they said the rear wheel was adjusted too tight... after that my mileage struggles to touch 37kmpl.... even if I don't cross 110 kmph.

In my recent trip (seen in the signature) I got numbers upto 41 kmpl when I was doing 70-80 kmph... but that did not sustain.

Don't know where to bang my head (not that serious though!!!). I guess everyone reading this can make out that there's something not alright. Yamaha people don't seem to understand that factor. Add to this, my bike doesn't even come under the performance category!!! takes hell lot of a time to go beyond 120 kmph and touched 130 kmph only a handful of times.... mostly I drive sedately between 90-110 kmph... sometimes when there's an empty straight stretch with good visibility and if I am in good mod, I push the bike...

    • Buddy there is always difference in performance on a tuned engine and a bone stock one. Mine offers more fuel efficiency and performance. Like I said elsewhere on this forum, there is no replacement for an efficient engine.
I would remain in 6th gear on all the staright patches and keep dodging between 100-130kmph by just a twist of my right wrist.

        • I had installed Halonix Blue Bulbs a few days back. Today I installed the stock Bulbs once again. Those Blue bulbs Really suck. You cant see anything there there is lot of oncoming traffic. Yesterday I was going to hit a fool who was trying to cross the road even after seeing a Bike coming towards him. I couldnt see him till the time he was right ahead of my bike. Thankfully he jumped out of my way and saved himself.

            • I dont have to stay too long in the lower gears coz of the better grunt throughout the range. In the city, I ride in 6th most of the time. Aparajith has ridden by bike in the chennai city traffic. Probably he can say how the power band feels.
Things get really strong from upwards of 5000rpm.
During highways crusing, at 100kmph I'm doing 7000rpm atleast..it will easily surge past to 9000rpm for me to hit speeds like 125 on the speedo. Pin the throttle a little further and it will get to its max speeds pretty quick just in 6th.
The bike was performing better in Kerala, coz of the change in altitute. Engine was more grunty and I could hear slight engine knocks (which is a good thing, shows your on the right edge) when revved hard. The bike would clock 100kmph really quick and was a blast to ride.
Even with a flat tyre, I was doing around 95-105 on the coimbatore L&T expressway. pretty fun ride.
What impresses me over everything else is the fuel efficiency.
The avg is 47kmpl. Pretty similar to my Group D RTR on long rides.
The interesting part was the fuel efficiency on my Fiero 200. Damn thing used to give 42-44kmpl on highway rides. WIth a full works engine

                • I just had 3rd servicing done on 4th jan (5.8 k) and personally supervised for over 3.5 hrs.
The guy did justice I suppose but I was still dissatisfied with the cavalier attitude that they show towards the bike.
I mean only because i was there did he checked all the points (the same cud not be said though of the 2 R15s there whose owners weren't present.
I also asked him to check the valve clearance as the manual clearly says to adjust at 6k ,He didnt do it.
reason was given that unless there is noise being generated these people are not supposed to touch the valve...wtf
Anyways havent driven much after that ..only 50 odd kms to lonavka as m bizy in training here.
I also cud not get the high beam adjusted (philips h4 60/55)coz they told me to come during evening for them to correctly adjust in the dark
horn was tuned by them and gives a max o/p on high beam too.
These people are still using motul chain cleaner and some other lubricant.
Reason for not using Yamaha given that its 4 times more costlier
Got a centre stand from them at 450 .Its the same as most of u guys have.
Main problem was tht the bike was wobbling a bit before servicing (exact observation n a plain road if the clutch is completely gripped allowing the bike free play(dunno the exact term) than it felt that the bike was riding on series of very small potholes i.e bouncing which wasnt felt earlier till 5k)
The ss guys did some adjustments to the tyre rims by deflating all the air and re-alligning and told to ride for a week for the tires to fit better on the rims and that this prob will go away.It has lessened as of now
Am going some 200 kms on sun ride and will test it out.
                  Thanks

Do u really want me to? Ok, one word. BLOODY-AWESOME. It did not feel like an R15 that struggles in lower rpms. It felt like the bike was doing above 7K rpm in my stock bike in any rpm band of Joel's.

Mind telling me what all you have done in blueprinting this single cylindered engine? I mean, what all was checked for tolerance limits and balance??

And what all are included in your "optimisation of intake" procedure?

You don't need to get your Valve Clearance checked unless there is a problem =)

You know any good mechs in chennai who could do the works on the R15?

When I used to go on the Bachupally Road (crusing between 90&110), she returned an amazing 48 kmpl, but on our Sunday trip, with almost 250kms.on full throttle she only returned 40kmpl. City mileage is consistently 43 though. I think the whole thing revolves around the throttle position, the less the throttle, more the mileage kinds. However as you say, 100 comes up pretty soon even with minimum throttle, but I find it is not possible to cross 100 without opening up the throttle a bit more. Even 10 km increase in speed requires more opening up of the throttle. After 110 for me it is more or less full throttle!

                              • mileage :TO BE NOTED

Guys had the third servicing done some one week back , then full tanked the bike and the mileage that i got after it, was something out of the question. i got a mileage of 40.81 kmpl and that too completely city ride no highway intakes. I am nearing 7000 kms on odo. Some may say its norma,l but here I am talking about bangalore traffic where my bike kicks on the fan every 300 mts in busy traffic everyday. I never used to pass the 35-37 kmpl mark before

Moreover point to be noted is that i was completely dissatisfied with the servicing, as Panache had some 50 odd new FZ16 and R15 delivered that day and they were busy unloading and were paying no attention to servicing, they completed the servicing in mind blowing 30 minutes, i dnt know what the hell they did in such a short span of time.

Changed the front disk pads: cost 675 bugsss!!
