  • Want new exhausts

I hate the exhaust of R-15, the same one they used in FZ-16, lame. Want to change it, probably do an undertail exhaust. All I am searching for is a knowledgeable mechanic in South, be it Chennai or B'lore (willing to ride there just to do this mod, and have a good tour of course). Any inputs on this?
If you guys know anything about exhausts, please write, and hoping to import a nice one that could improve the power.

    • ownership experience in company website

      Dear all
Since I have been working really hard in office now a days I have been visiting web sites of manufacturers in India.
I stumbled upon a "R15 ownership thread kind of thing" on Yamaha website too.
Think you owners can put in your comments directly to Yamaha people.
Just try it out..It should be fun..especially for unsatisfied owners (if there are any around here!!)

      • iridium plugs

technically speaking iridium plugs shud make a difference marginally, but in the longer run the engine is better maintained due to complete ic,..are any of u using iridium plugs and do u feel there is a change in efficiency/performance?,..
There is a thin line between adventure and madness,...God must have made me myopic for a reason!!!

Am using the Bullet's cover. Best fit AFAIK.

NGK Iridium is a good upgrade for R15. Which model are you getting? CR8EIX right?
For Engine oil. Stick to the YAMALUBE atleast for the initial Running-in period.

Seconded. I tried the other ones but shes too fat for the regular sizes. The bullet covers would'nt be as nice as the custom ones, but they do the job. Got mine here for 180. Its the silver light material cover, not the 'tirpal'.

                    • Guys one serious question from my end...I mean this may sound funny for some people but it's been hovering my mind since long time..

                      The question is..

Is there any connection between chain lubrication and the top speed of the R15 or for that matter any bike? I mean will using a different lubricant(any thing other than comapny suggested or SS guys use) have it's effect on the top speed of the bike? I am not talking bout the effect on acceleration(though acceleration is intrincically connected to top speed) but just on the top speed.

Is there anyone here who's been using anything other than company suggested lubricant for their bike's chain?

                      • Chain just need proper slack and adequate lubrication for best results(i ll put it that way). Doesn matter which make the bike or the lubricant is.

But the adhesion of the lubrication must be perfect.

Too thick and the rollers in the chain will not roll.
Too think and it wont stick , will drip off.

                        Needs regular maintainence.

Santa has explained it. Make a right choice i.e. buy a lube compatible with O-rings.

I had felt a slight improvement in Acceleration when I shifted to Yamaha's Dry type chain lube. Also it lasts longer. I have washed my bike 3-4 times after lubing and the lube is still there. Also no dust accumulation till now.

                          • I rode my bike for 1000 kms and no issues from the chain. But in my 1st servicing I got it cleaned and lubricated with Motul spray. After that it makes sound after 5 RPm or above 60kmph. Not sure if its the chain, but if it is then surely chain lubrication affects top speed + acceleration.

Dude.. get ur chain checked once again from the SS. Because the same incident had happened with me. Everything was fine untill my 2nd service and just after 2nd service bike started making hissing/friction sound from somewhere near the back wheel. I didnt want to look into the matter myself and make it worse therefore I took it back to the SS and upon inspection found out that the chain was over tightened by the fella. Got it rectified and the sound dissappeared.

@ guys above. Thanx for ur inputs..
Now i'll tell you why I asked you all this question.

I have been following this thread regarding the lubrication thing. Initially I wanted to buy the lubricating kit from SS but a price of close to 900Rs. kept me apart.

I had some SE90 grade catrol chain lubricant at my home which I had bought for my previous bike. I asked the SS guy bout the type of chain in R15 and he said though the chain in R15 n my previous bike aren't exactly the same, they are some what similar and you can use this SE90 grade lubricant for this chain. But company suggested lube will be the first preference.

In some service stations I saw SS guys using engine oil for lubrication as well when they used to be out of stock of the Motul chain lube.

It's been around 5000km now and I hav been using the same SE90 grade oil for lubricating my chain. No problem at all from noise or friction point of view. No problem at all from smoothness or ride qulity department as well. I have ridden with fellow mumbai xbhpians for long rides and they know the performance of my bike .

Why this question popped up in my mind was, because uptill now I have managed to reach a top speed of 133km/hr on my bike and now a days the bike struggels to get to that speed and beyond that, a lot. Also she takes a bit longer time to be there. So just thought of asking you is there any relation between lube and top speed. That's nothin else.

I am at no point making a point or reccomending some one to use the lube I use but it has saved me some money till now with no problem at all. I might think of continuing with the same lube or will buy the new Yamaha chain lube.

anyways..Thank you for ur response and comments...
