hey i'm also facing the same prob.......the bike goes till 105-110km/ph easily but after that it struggles but then i have reached 126 on the speedo.......have'nt tested it after the first service but the low end pickup has improved.....
Some of us had gone on Sunday for a ride on a 4 lane highway, where we got a chance to test the top ends of our R15s. Most of us feel the same. After 110 the bike is pretty sluggish, though I also managed to reach 134!
However on the track, Aspi Bhatia from Bike India had tested it upto 120 in 5th gear. I feel if we can take it upto that in 5th&then move into 6th, we can achieve the (highly debated) top speed of 145. But how often do we shift into top gear at 120+? Personally I shift into 6th at around 60 plus on a highway, 40 in city!

yeah you're right bro...it was in the adapter,i got it rectified at Ambal motors, chennai. THey just rolled a tape to the adapter from then the prob is very low for me to feel it....but still do exist

Shifting from 5th to 6th at 126 kmph drops your speed by 2-3 kmph unless you are in a slope with not much wind! Did this a few times... Still, my top speed was 132 kmph before the last Sunday... that speed was acheived with steady acceleration in 6th from 80 or 90 kmph.

Nope. I feel a litle roughness above 6k rpm... this was not felt earlier and in some other's R15's.

KP: Its not the top speed, but how soon we get to it thats mattering! I could also clock 134, but it took really long after 110.
I'm also feeling a bit of roughness after 6K RPM. I was wondering how it is possible only with say 250kms of full throttle riding! Do you have any idea as to whats causing this?

I second this on top speed... Even on my B'lore trip recently, it takes ages to reach that 20s n 30s..
It looks all have this problem who haven't done any engine mod to the bike!!
The worst part is that even SS guys will be of any help...

On my last ride it was not struggling to do 120, my bike is in stock condition, even after riding 1400 kms in 4 days 5th day it did 125+ easily without any problem

I am yet to experience this problem on my stock R15. I have done more than 8k and the bike is still more than willing to hit 130 & above on an empty road. I was continuously clocking 134 as soon as I opened the throttle completely on my recent highway ride to Mahabaleshwar and these were flat sections without any decline.

                • Hey fellas.. sory to break the chain of ur top speed posts..
Just writting to share an experience with u guys..

I had gone to Goa for the new year on my R15.(Check my trip log)

Bike had no probs at all.. She felt as smooth n fresh as she was before the ride, when I returned home.

The very next day was my 2nd servicing day.

I went to Thomsun Auto, Andheri where i get my bike servied. That fellow there made me wait for full 4 hours for my bike to be serviced... Anyways, coming back to the point, my service was done and I returned home.

Next day was Sunday and I didnt ride the bike at all on that day. But on monday I was supposed to go to Pune for some work.

When I left home early in the morning, bike felt ok if not good, but there wasn't any noticable problem.

Everything was fine untill I reach some open roads on the way near Panvel. There for the first time on that day I ripped the bike. I shifted almost all gears close to red line but heck.. Bike refused to go past 115kmph and also the pick up was less. But i didnt pay much attension to it that time.

After just 5 or 10 mins I reached Panvel and stopped for refueling.

Just as i left the petrol pump, suddenly a wierd sound started coming from somewhere. Sound like squeek squeek squeek... as if something's brushing the running wheel.

Initially the sound was less but as i roda for few kms it increased and was very loud and distracting..

At one point I felt like returning home and taking the bike to SS the very same day, but the work at pune was unavoidable. So had to continue the journey.

Apart from that wierd noise, the thing which was noticable was that the top end and pick up fcuked up totally. On open patches where i easily used to clock min 120-125kmph, I cudnt even cross 112-115kmph. I knew something major has happened to the bike.

I decided to show it to some Yamaha SS in Pune itself but i couldnt get time. Good thing was I parked my bike at my GF's house there for the whole day and didnt ride so as to avoide any further damage.

That day some how I managed to return home at night but was very depressed by this.

Very next day I went to SS and told them bout the prob. Mech checked the bike out and realised that the chain was a lill too tight. They did that blunder while servicing. Bloody A#%$^....

He loosened the tension of the chain a bit, lubricated all the discs and the noise was completely gone. Also the bike felt much much lighter and free, same as she was before the servicing.

I really wonder if this is the sort of attension they pay while servicing a vehicle..a premium vehicle.. Heck....

The fellow who serviced my bike the other day was not on duty when i revisited SS. The fellow who rectified my prob was furious on him..so was I....

Anyways.. Just felt like sharing this incident as many of the members were complaining bout strange noises from wheels n from somewhere near engine.

Take good care of ur babe guys..

                  Regards,
                  Ketan Nikharge.

Haven't crashed my bike yet, but today my building children pushed it while on stand and it dropped on another bike.
Rear indicator broke, but the really bad part.. the tank got a bad bad scratch.. a good thick silver curve on my tank.

Any suggestions how do i get rid of it?

That sounds bad. If such sort of things continues then one really has to think a lot before going out for touring. Good that you got your bike fixed.

On a side note there is something amazing (atleast not expected). I bought my bike last Friday and got a Full Tank (12 lts). The trip meter shows 165Kms, but can u believe that on the fuel meter it still shows 4 bars (out of 6). Now thats an excellent fuel efficiency on a brand new bike without any servicing done. Is it normal or something wrong with the display ? As far as I know, R15 doesnt gives a efficiency of more than 50kmpl. I used Shell Speed.

Even my bike shows like that. the meters cannot be very accurate especially when the fuel in the tank is not stationary!

That is sad! not a useful suggestion for you but have a couple of things to say:
                            1) check with a good paint walah! they can get the matching colour and do touchup!
                            2) Keep the bike in 1st gear when you park it. It reduces the chances of bike falling.

eggjaktli shame to shame happened to me... second service, chain over tightened, pickup falls a bit (didn't try top speed at that time) and tank almost empty by 310 kms... earlier, on the same route I was in reserve nearly after 425 kms.

The bike never came back to its earlier self again! but improved from that pathetic condition!

Yeah, shift after 9K and u'll reach faster.. but still, once you come into the 6th gear... you will slow down!

only God knows!!! should not be because of 250 kms of full throttling... try to recollect.. you hardly had the full throttle on for 100 - 130 kms. still, this shouldn't be the reason.

One of the guys from my office said that there would be a transport strike in Hyderabad and fuel wont be available. Is that true? If yes, then better to get the tank filled!
