It was never imported from japan. It was made in Indonesia.

Just competed 3000 kms. Wanted to share my experience till date. I bought (rather was given as a brithday gift!! Lucky me ) the bike in October 2009.

Anyway, 3 days after I bought the bike, I find it overheating (red temp light) while I am standing in the traffic. However, once the bike starts moving, the temp light goes off. I suspected that the fan it not working. Therefore, I take it at once to the factory workshop, the head mechanic refuses to believe me. I ask him to test the bike and if still says its ok I will take his word. He asks me to wait and after about an hour he says that he will keep the bike for the day to check everything out. Upon being asked specifically what it wrong, he admits that the temp light is showing after 10 mins of stationary running.

When I go to collect my bike the next day. The head mechanic tells me about how the problem foxed him and how he replaced each and very part that he could think of to solve the problem. I am told that the whole radiator assembly has been replaced. Not had the problem has occured since then even in very heavy and slow moving traffic.

The second service was OK. No complaints over there. The only other thing that I would like to note is the fact that the chain requires a lot more looking after compared to a chain that is fully enclosed.

Ok. If thats what they say . However, when I took delivery of my bike, the showroom guys had not removed the bar code sticker from the engine casing, which clearly says country of origin is Indonesia. Also read an interview of a Yamaha official (cant recall where) that as there is a free trade agreement between India and Indonesia and the volumes are small, it made sense to use existing V-ixion engine production line.

Its really not recommended that you paint or put sun film on the windshield. The windshield is made of Polycarbonate, like most (good ones anyway) helmet visors are. Paint or adhesive used applying the sun film will damage the windshield (solvents contained therein will compromise the structural integrity). The tainted shields that are available for R1 and R6 are actually made by adding dye color during the process of molding the windshield.
