but since this bike has done 2600kms and is 4mths old so that means running procedure is over here, hence you take a break when you want to as this bike is a Gem, she wont get tired but you may...

When I tour on my RX, there has been many times when I rode her non-stop for more than 100kms and this has happened many times.... so R15 is far more advanced and she can do better man
During run-in, yes one would be better off following stricter guideline!
If not for a break every 1 hour, I will still stick to the break every 100km thingy. A 5 min break would definitely help. 200 km non-stop would be killing I think (that is if one is ripping all the way)

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

    • ahem ahem.. 200 kms on a ninja would be a breeze... on the R15 120-150 kms you can pull easy before hauling in for a break. haha

Actually more than anything, its upto the rider, whether he wants to keep the enthusiasm going or wants to pace it out.

Also its better that the first stretch of distance should be the longest covered without a break. This lets you cover a great deal of distance without losing steam. With every break a little bit of more exhaustion sets in. So ideally what i prefer is that the first three breaks to be at - 100-80-50 and every 50 km break if longer.

Try it, see if it helps. you can modify the distances to suit your travel distance.

i agree with you @JD its the interest of the rider, but bear the case that the bike also matters... consider a 200km trip on an ZMA and any 100cc bike?
As you said the first pitstop must be of the longest one... i used to do a ~300km trip from office-home monthly(or in a couple of months)...
i take the first break at 65-75kms and the remaining stops used to be 35-45kms on my FZ... i believe if it was another bike eg:- ZMA/BULLET(i am only considering these bike as comfy as my FZ on long rides) the stops can be like 100-60 etc.

Just got delivery of my Yam R-15 last friday i.e 7th May. It's a yellow one and my tale is long to be typed during work hours on a Tuesday

I loved / love bikes and really contemplated buying one for the last year and finally one day woke up -- walked in to Yamaha Riders (Mg Road, Pune) and purchased my bike. Got delivery in 3 days exact. The day i got the bike i was nervous as hell.. paranoia ran high and it was just too grand to sum up in words. Brief would be i owned the first lot Pulsar 180 way back when it had just launced, had to sell it off 4 months later due to financial issues. Then got another Pulsar 180 --- sold that again.... and this constant farewell with motorcycles got me into a pretty bummed out phase... until i bought the Karizma -- Man what a rush.. held onto that bike for a year to 18 months and then sold it.. got a Suzuki Access which i have no complains with and still commute on that.

Coming back to the R-15.... i asked an affluent friend if i could use his garden area to park my bike knowing it will be safe there, specially with the kids in my society (i think a bunch of them are terrorists in the making) and i can bring it out in the night go for a ride as i dont consider the Yam as a commute bike. Pune has half decent roads... good turns etc and want this to be a pleasure vehicle... i purchased with my own funds so hoping i wont have to sell it.

So what happend on Monday i.e 10th May... i go at about 10 in the night to bring the Yam out... run it around the CTC (lullanagar, Pune) roads and discover a break on the right white fairing. Man that moment felt like a big chainsaw drilling its way up from my legs ABSOLUTE SHOCKER. Immediately i called the gardener asked him and i have an affair with rage we both love consuming each other. I assumed the gardener's kids fiddled with the bike, what he went on to tell me left me a bit stunned and i started mentally abusing nature. Apparently the wind dropped the bike.... i only believed him cuz the right indicator had no damage whatsoever and i do know the hours before 10pm had some serious wind.... also reminded me how light the Yam is... and how badly i need a paddock stand or an enclosed area to park it. You could say im a bit over-paranoid about the safety of my bike... but its jst too big a deal for me at the moment. So i ride out to the showroom bright and early this morning made possible by the constant inability to sleep.... The workshop guys told me it would take 5-6 days and cost 750/- to get the new one.

I consider the virginity broken... and await the replacement. Im glad to a certain extent that it wasnt major damage.

At the moment i am riding the bike under 5,000 rpm dont touch the 5-6th gears... also purchased an RJAYS paddock stand for 5.5k but i think it should help specially after i put the bike on it, it was pretty stable and the wind seemed insignificant.

Im also lookin for other Pune r-15 riders ... ride maybe ? opinions, info etc....
Step up right up ladies and gentlemen.

            • slow puncture

              Hi Folks,
got my first slow puncture on the 15 front tire.I thought initially that someone had deflated it deliberately but the air leaked out in 3-4 days again.Took it to my local punture walla who could not remove the wheel since there is no center stand and he cracked the low fairing trying to put a stool under it.Navnish suggested getting a RX center stand for the tire removal.
Anyone with any ideas?the rim isnt bent atleast to my eye and havnt hit any big bumps recently.Should i take it to the SS in Malad,a good 40km away? Can i fix it if i get a tubeless repair kit?
              any suggestions welcome

You guessed right, it isnt available anywhere. I checked with the MRF distributors, they gave me the standard "Why dont you call us next week ? If it comes, we will keep one for you" routine. Spoke to the MRF dealers, Naveen Tyres, Koramangala, they said that it hasnt come for the last 1 1/2 months. Sai Iyengar, another large tyre dealer said you cant get it however much you are willing to pay. Orion Motors was ready to sell it for Rs 2500. To know the extent of opportunism, Sakthi has bought the tyre for Rs 1500 from Coimbatore.

Needed to change the tyre as it was getting punctured way too frequently & I had already missed out on a couple of events & been late for work several times due to it. Did a lot of research & finally decided on the MRF Nylogrip Zapper C 100 / 90 / 17 (tubed). Paid Rs 1700 for it. The other viable option was the Michelin M75 but nobody else has used it on their bike & I didnt want to be a guinea pig.

So far so good. Tried some emergency braking & the tyre didnt throw up any surprises. Will have to see how well it behaves in the rains. However the change in the profile (100/90 instead of 100/80) has really altered the feel of the bike. The riding posture feels more commuterish now, dont know how else to explain it. Its sort of like dancing to your favourite song and doing your favourite steps but with a new dance partner.

Finally have peace of mind & dont have to wheel out the bike every morning praying that it isnt punctured / leaking air. Plus with the bigger tyre, the rear looks meatier and filled out. Thats + 10 poser points * for whoever is interested . Will post pictures on the tyre later.

                * poser points : Similar to the points on Whose Line Is It Anyway. They dont matter.

dude..tubeless tyre puncture repair kit is a must.. especially for the tryres the baby has..its pretty normal to lose certain PSIs every 3-4 days. Get a repair kit and do it yourself. DONT EVER GIVE THE POCKET ROCKET TO THESE LOCAL MECHANICS UNLESS ITS AN EMERGENCY..these guys have got their hands set on the old Indian bikes and this baby ain't of that breed..

                  • Can i fit the RX stand to use it to lubricate the chain and for other normal purpose? I am not going to use it for parking my R15, but some time it's required. My babe is overdue for it's service, 4th month and still no hands on her and i am going to give her a good treat. Motul 15W/40W full Synthetic oil has been delivered at garage. I am looking to change the entire front fairing, my brother in law had tossed my babe and damage the front. Brake pad front and rear, Tappet setting, rear glasses both the sides and last but not the least full bike service.

                      • YAMAHA R15-Swapping rear tyre with FZ16-using FZ16 rear tyre in R15:India Bike & scooters Market Forums.

                        Guys check the link out.

Apparently yamaha has "approved" the use of the FZ tyre on the R15, and it can be done at any dealer by paying an extra sum.

This has been posted by someone posing as a dealer rep for SETCO YAMAHA, PATEL NAGAR, NEW DELHI.

                        "Hi,
Yamaha has recommended the replacement of wider tyre of R15. Please take the bike to the nearest Yamaha dealer and request for the change over. Normally that is done through MRF dealer by paying the difference of what the MRF dealer value your current rear tyre for.

                        Thanks

                        • Changing the R15 tyres to that of FZ

                          Hey guyz,
i have been riding R15 for almost 1 and half years , had replaced the tyres to that of 120rear and 110 front ; when i was installing these tyres, i asked the SS people if i can have broader tyres just like FZ, they said that installing broader tubed tyres is possible but wiedr tubeless tyres cannot be fixed as there has to be some alteration done to the swing arm, didn't wanted to play with the technicalities hance dropped the idea ,

Is it really possible without any welding operations to fix FZ's tyres to the R15 ?

                            Guys!!
please do not park your yammie in direct sunlight as it may damage the plastic parts or the paint also please ensure no oil leakage is there from brake or clutch lever....
I just parked my yammie yesterday morning and when i came back in afternoon i saw that some oil has been leaked from the brake lever to the RH panel which due to heat burnt all the area which it has covered... it is really looking very bad & i'm really pissed off don't know how it happened.

pls suggest i should go for the panel change or any alternate way for it....
