As far as the choice goes, R15 is much better !
I'm back on xBhp after almost 2 months, straight into this thread and this is the first post I read. I tell myself - "we haven't lost entertainment here". Sorry Praveen, not trying to pull you but this pointed me to Rossi's weight!
How much more would a few kilo's of metal, plastic and rubber would cost you? It is the technology that we pay for and of course the taxes. Companies invest incredibly huge sums of money in developing the techlogy, they making the moulds, advertising, distribution channels, transportation etc and then the margins for all those involved in the process. For that matter, that is how almost every product is.Originally posted by mkarthe View PostHi friends, I heard one thing but I doesnt know how much true it is. My friend said R15's production cost is just 36000 rupees only but royalty to the team designed is 37000 and balance is govt duties and taxes. Is it true.
I heard this many years ago that the factory cost of an Indica is Rs 90K and the ex-showroom price is over 3.5L. Similarly, you can guess the factory cost of a Maruti 800 but the company makes less than Rs 10K profit per car.
Side panel is Rs 580. Side inner panel is about Rs 280 and the front panel is some 300+. Enjoy.Originally posted by revtech View Posthow expensive is the side fairing for the R15 ?

Guys, I felt the gears ratios are short.. in the sense I am quick shifting through the gears and moving onto the 6th gear.I look at the speedo and I am doing 90 kmph and RPM is tad below 7k.
When I have to down shift, I have to down shift 2 gears, especially when in traffic.
since, I am a novice at understanding gear ratios, any advantage this has? I mean ... short gear ratios.
Especially, when it comes to the R15.Last edited by tharikiran; 03-01-2010, 06:58 PM.Yes, I have seen GOD. He wears the no. 46 and rides a Yamaha errr Ducati :)

I don't know the internal thing but that is quiet possible. R15 was sort of a brand building exercise for Yamaha India whereas FZ16 was a thoroughly researched bike built for Indian market.Originally posted by sheelpriye View Post@HydBiker--Heard Yamaha is making lesser profits on R15 compared to FZ/Fazer
and profit margin is pretty less(as per a yamaha dealer) so R15 production was at minimum in Nov/Dec so that they can manufacture/sell and make more profits out of FZ series
There is another reason for producing less R15's. The demand has lowered. Especially after the P220 carb model came into the market. Some people are falling for the Fazer's masculine look. Some waiting for the ZMR...
The gear ratio's in the R15 are pretty tall in comparision with other bikes we have in the market.Originally posted by tharikiran View PostGuys, I felt the gears ratios are short..

I read the sales report on another automobile forum and was surprised to see that of all the prominent 2-wheeler manufacturers in india currently Yamaha was one such who experienced a decline in sales for the month of Jan.
Any thoughts on this?My thoughts...

there has been rumors about the launch of a new 15 later this year.i hope the drop in sales will make yamaha think of r25 and fz 250.in a year or so i am planning to sell my r15 and buy a 250. the ninja is way over priced. also the service is after all done by bajaj. no hope .praying honda launches a 250(rumours are already there). sorry for OT discussion. just lost focuss when some body told about yamaha sales.
now back to serious business. the over heating problem of my bike seems to get corrected automatically.a few days back my bike got over heated after just 1 km. yesterday i ripped my bike through the heavy traffic for quite some time and surprisingly there was not even the slightest sign of overheating. WTF is happening with my bike?. as shekar pointed out could it be an ecu problem? can an fid be used to check the functioning of the ecu? comments please.superbikes are the biggest blunders on indian roads.

PS: Am not a Pune guy though
JD, GP and the nerdy boring characters discussing tweaks.... can you please post your conversation on the R15 Garage thread... thats a lot of handy information being lost out in this paint and polish thread :P

Are you talking about this useful post there?
I guess you didnt read this before:Originally posted by akhilmuraleedhar View Postonce i cross the 7 k mark in 2nd gear i sense some serious vibrations. in higher gears i sense the same but only after 9.5 k rpm. why is it?only recently have i started to rev my engine to such high rpm. previously i seldom go above 8k. does the bike makes such vibrations at high rpm in general or is it with just my bike. some one please post some opinions.my bike is 14 months old and has done only 7k kms. i never went above 110 ever. is it time for me to thrash my bike to the 140s. the vibrations are making me nervous.
Probably you are choosing a wrong day to pick up on me man... !Originally posted by satyenpoojary View PostThanks Aryan, the reason for this thread
is very evident with the kind of posts that goes on there.... I mean this will save a lot of time for people who have to (now painfully) scan a lot of paint-polish-sticker posts to know about the various tweaking that hardware can\should get...
This will be a dedicated thread only for all hardware mods and stuff.... Hardcore Garage stuff....
For Eg. The opportunity that the FID can now bring to people like us et all!
Relax, all I meant about is that a lot of handy stuff is getting missed out in this HUGE thread. You are lucky I didnt call it a paint polish and farts thread considering that there is a lot of diagnosis of sounds that the bike makes... !
Jokes apart if you found that term offensive, chillax, will edit that...!

My aplogies if it appeared that I am insulting anyone, let me reassure you I didnt like that comment of yours as well.... that despite of answering a millions PMs from you.
What I meant and what I wrote is simple: The ownership thread is plagued with a lot of softer aspects about the bike, the paint, the polish, the ownership experience et all. Apart from the diagnosis of the various sounds, even counselling on what height and weight is right for the rider exists here! I am not asking you all to stop discussing these.... maybe they are of genuine use to most of the people, and feel free to consider me or anyone as anything you want.... all I am ranting about is that amongst these discussions, a lot of valueable posts regarding the hardware aspects of the bike, taking its performance to the next level etc gets missed. Am sure GP, JD and a lot of the guys here agree that they have to scout pages to know about the discussion\conversation.
Someone (I know who) had a beautifull post about aftermarket parts, try finding it and tell me honestly how much time it took,a nd would you want to spend as much time searching for the post!Super CommuTOURer - Talk less, Ride more
