  • JD on a gyaan giving spree, thanks for the info man..

I heard that Yamalube is repackaged motul? How true is that?

Btw guys a weird problem has cropped up... under hard breaking, sometimes I feel something kinda knocking together in the front part of the bike (in the steering I think) .. a very light 'tak' kinda thing.. the bike has done 14k+ kms, could it be the cone set?

    • ^^ yamaha lube is repackaged motul.

      - That sound is your race cone set. It should be lubricated every year or 12,000 kms, Have you gotten it checked before. It could be loose also, but since you have done 14000 kms, better to get it checked and lubricated.

One of my friend's faced an issue, and the balls on the cone set got cut in about 6000 kms ( no lubrication from company ). costed him more than 2100 bucks just to get it replaced. Its very expensive. Get it checked asap.

Friction is required some where and not required in other places. In engine friction is a no no. If friction increases, more heat is generated inside the engine in addition to the heat generated due to burning of fuel. So more heat, in turn make the metal to expand and thus reducing the tolerance. Less tolerance means more friction and more friction again mean more heat… Also at a certain point, the lubrication process kind of disappears and the oil is eaten up.
Its kind of a vicious circle until engine ceases or the piston gets stuck to the cylinder

So technically speaking, there is no reason to tell that engine braking is harmful even when the internals are new. I am not talking about shifting from 6th at 6k rpm to 1 st gear straight . Engine braking will actually make the new engine more versatile. If you are still not convinced, i can try with some more additional points. Lets talk technical....
Most people also seem to forget that the running period is also important as it is also a process of heat treatment for all the moving parts in the engine. In this heat treatment whereby the parts heat up and are cooled gradually, the oil acts as a quenching medium.

                  • Chain Cleaner & Lube

Here is a picture of the Motul Chain Cleaner (Rs.800/-) and YamLube - Dry Type (Rs.1400/-). They are both available at the service center. Use both at intervals of 500 Kms.

                        • thanks akhil . The yamahalube is a better chain lube than the motul one. Though its more expensive as well. But it lasts longer, and you can increase the service interval of your chain from 300 to 500-600 kms easy.

                          • hi all! went to Yamaha dealer Shinrai Automobiles Pvt Ltd at Kochi today.
Its a newly opened one I guess. 2 R15s(1 black,1 yellow), 1 Gladi SS and few Albas, G5s and a Fazer was on display.
I did some general enquiry of R15 and was shocked to know that the sales guys had no idea about the grade of engine oil, coolant and chain lube used(though I knew the specs, I was testing them).
One guy asked the manager and confirmed "Sir, chain lube is dry type and it will cost you 400/- and I was like ".
They asked me to sit on a Bike and feel it. I did and was very excited. though found the pegs very rear set, I guess it will grow on me(once I get the Bike, that is)...
I forgot everything else and just sat there with a heart beating at high rpms
Left the Showroom after asking his(salesman) name and thanking the him.

Based on my personal experience using Motul. My chain service interval on my R15 has been anywhere from 700kms minimum to 2000 kms during trips. I clean it every 700kms and during city rides lube every 400-500kms. 1350kms after the last trip it has been lubed once in between at 1000kms without cleaning(which is normal when i tour). Motul chain lube lasts quite well. Doesn't wear off as early as 300 kms. Which is very short! But if someone is doing 300 kms in 1 month maybe it will require lubing more often. As far as my chain is concerned, its performing well and in very good shape.

Haven't tried yamalube for chain but heard quite good reviews about it.

@Prakritij: You reminded us a lot about the early Yamaha days! If you are buying the bike then congrats! and if that dry lube is for 400Rs (YAMAHA spray can) then buy 5 for me
