  • Guys,

    I have questions for R15.

    1) Does tyre have expiry date? If yes, then how to find it?
    2) Mine R15 10,500 KM old, now I got around 40KMPL on average, before that (in 0-7000 KM) I got around 48-46 KMPL on average in city, what is the cause of loosing fuel efficiency?

      1) No, tires != medicine...
But seriously, there are tread wear indicators on the tires. When the tire is worn till the indicators, its time to change the tire.

      2) Maybe you've started riding hard? Common problems might be an unclean air filter, or slightly under-inflated tires. Look into that, if not, do you park in the sun?
      You get the point?? :D

          • my ride is finally here

            Hi fellow xBhpians.

I finally got my beast 3-4 days back. I've been tied up with work to share my experience so far here.

Well, work apart, I'm already in love with it, which I had earlier, but its pretty much more now that I own it

Had booked for a midnight black. Bookings were topping the Yamaha factory stores here in Pune for the black beast, and I couldn't wait up more.

I decided to go in for a blue, and I've the Yamaha Blue R15 now and it just looks gorgeous.

Have completed 150+ on the ODO already.

Riding this feels so good. Smooth, the engine note is gr8 to hear to. I've been driving at night on clear roads, and also for the fact that I still need to get my registration number. Hopefully that gets done on Monday.

The riding stance is just perfect, however I had few glitches at first.
One, a high frequency note coming out when I turn the key on. Seems like from the digital console or from the battery. Would get this checked up.

Secondly, the gear positioning was a bit high, its still quite not that do-it-with-ease kinda while shifting down. Can this be adjusted?

Lastly, its the vision at night. Both the low beam and high beam render less light on the roads and more scattered or beaming up peoples faces. Can this be rectified somehow? Is there a fix?

I also purchased a Vega biker helmet which did cost me 4850bux and its just awesome. The color matches ma bike and also feels so comfortable inside. Feels like I am driving in a tunnel, well ventilated and makes me feel protected.

I am thinking of buying a pair of AlpineStar gloves tomorrow.

Will be posting the pics of my bike and accessories soon.

Till then, I'll enjoy my ride and drive safe. You guys too.

This thread is just amazing, xBhp rox \m/

            Regards,
            Kiran

That is a self-check procedure(if you had seen Yamaha ads being aired during Moto GP races 2-3 years ago you might have noticed the self-check on the R1's FJR's
all FI(fuel-injected) motorcycles go through this procedure, so no worries, just make sure all lamps(5 of them) do glow up and shut down.

Secondly, the gear positioning was a bit high, its still quite not that do-it-with-ease kinda while shifting down. Can this be adjusted?
              Yes, it can be adjusted.

Yes, it(the alignment/position) can be rectified,
              the illumination isn't great though.

Would try to answer your query regarding booking of the bike as I also had some issues and doubts during booking period and I believe you have also booked the bike with a dealer in Kerala.
Unlike in most other parts of the country, in Kerala most Yamaha dealers take only 1000 RS as booking amount (checked with 3 different dealers in two districts, same 1000 RS). I think this is because there is a serious delay in delivery of R15 across Kerala. Its not rare that people end up waiting for more than a month to get the bike. In my case I booked the bike with one of the dealers in Trivandrum and even after 1.5 months the dealer was not able to deliver the bike. Even though I said them that I will pay full amount in advance, they were not ready to accept it saying that, they are not sure when they will receive the load from Yamaha. As the delivery was getting insanely delayed I checked the availability with two other dealers in different cities and got to know that even if you book paying any amount they are only hopeful that they can deliver in 30 days. And at this point I got in touch with a different dealer though a friend of mine whose boss was a good friend of the dealer. They had one bike which came two days before and was still waiting for the person who booked the bike to pay full amount. Because of the good friendship my friends boss had with the dealer that bike was allotted to me as i paid the full amount next day morning itself (The dealer i initially booked the bike with was happy to refund as they had already told me to try with other dealers also as they cant commit at all about the delivery date).

It may sound ridiculous that people are waiting for 30-50 days in Kerala where in cities like Bangalore and Mumbai the bike is being delivered in 10 days or so..

If you are going to book or have booked the bike with any dealer in kerala be prepared to wait really long (unless yamaha has made changes in their supply management and are also producing more machines to meet demand)
Hi, went to the dealer last Thursday. They told that new load will arrive on 30th of this month for sure. They also told me that if I pay the full amount before 30th, I'll recieve the Bike in the first week of June.

In fact I felt the same and get that fixed on the first day.

There will be two bolts just behind the head lamp, when you see while seating on the bike. You can do that from there.

                  Congrats for the bike Kiran...

Yes, if the tires have been stored, then it will certainly affect the life & performance. The 5yr old one would probably develop cracks as the rubber will have degraded considerably.

I thought you are talking about the tires on your bike. They come from the same lot,and age together. But frankly, there's no way they'll last 5 yrs, unless you put the bike inside an Air-conditioned showcase...

Uhh, most probably. I don't know. I think the date is printed on the tire (may be horribly wrong with this one).

But yeah, I get your point. I'd suggest smelling the tire. No, seriously! Fresh ones have a unique smell...
