  • @Rajesh--you may ask the mech's to take off the silencer & inspect it. A bit tedious, but if you suspect this to be the problem, it will most defiantly solve it.
Wheeling might help too, 12'o clock one

There should be no harm in this as long as you do it with proper help and dont drop the bike...but that's just a suggestion.
to clean the insides of a car, will u turn the car upside down so dirt will fall off or out ?
@ Rajesh : remove the exhaust off the bike and tap it, to prevent any further damage. the muffler tip can be removed to access the muffler component inside. The service centre will do it for u.

The service centre folks aren't too keen. They are like "Sahab bahut mushkil hai, nahi hoga" .

Can I try it on my own (with some help ofcourse), or would it be too risky ?

          • @rajesh:-
Why dont you try to lift the bike from front in a 90 degree angle with the help of your friends. It can help you take out the stone easily. I remember a person on xbhp who had a similar kind of problem in his p135 & he started a thread for it. Search for that thread in the "help me" section. You may find your answer over there.

Dude, that's a car, this's a bike! Maybe if the car isn't so huge and heavy, and if the pasage for the dirt is too small for a hand or vacuum cleaner to reach, and if the contaminant is a pebble and not "dirt", and if the only other way is to remove the entire exhaust system right from the headers...then we could think about this option! Until then, the good old vacuum cleaner

The problem is, to remove the exhaust, it has to be removed right at the engine head. It's a single unit from there till the exhaust canister. This means, the bike has to be stripped down naked first with all the fairing removed, and then the exhaust has to be removed and fitted back. I wouldn't recommend any outside mechanic for such a tedious process. Also, the removal and re-fitting process should be carried out very carefully at the head, or you might end up with permanent damage.

Well, maybe you could first rest the front wheel on a higher plain with the back wheel on a lower plain, and then ask 2 of your friends to lift the front wheel up until the exhaust is at an angle for the pebble to come out. I had to do a similar thing of lifting the front wheel to a higher level once, when I had to load my bike intoa trolley that had no ramp. Service Center people do this thing almost everytime they unload bikes from factory truck.
                Sunny.

                • Yesterday I gave my bike for servicing. Ins 13k and 10th servicing is on. Engine oil (Yamlube ss)has lasted 3k from last change. Its due change in this servicing. I have no issue with bike except the idle screw fallen came out twice. However I am lucky enough to get it back twice.
Today I got a call from svc saying that engine is leaking ! And they need my permission to check. When I went there the engineer over their showed me the top of engine(Once you remove the oil tank). It looked little oilish. Like a layer above oil bottle with little dirt. I have not seen that part ever. I am not sure is it an issue or not. In fact I hv never seen any leakage in my parking and its not even there in svc parking as well. Its like a swollen area. He said it might be a leakage in gasket. Again a new term for me!!! He said it cud be due to wrong tappet adjustment as well(done in 10k and new engine oil has been put).

Please thrown some light on it. Now I will receive the bike on Monday or Tuesday and I am not too sure what went wrong .
                  I do blog.

                  • updates...

well its been a long time since ive come online..(no net at home..:| )
i started following this thread before i even owned the bike...this is the first time im posting as a proud owner of the R15!!(black)
well got the bike on 8th august.. clocked ~1200kms till now, 1st servicing done..the bike is awesome.. i sincerely want to thank all the fellow xbhpians for being loyal to the thread and posting about all your problems and solutions... trust me, it helped me a lot..!
i was already aware of the noises from the bike - when you keep it in the heat, a "tooooo" noise which goes away when you open the fuel tank cap, etc etc...
as most of the owners agree, the lights aint that good..(that doesnt mean i ride on high beam), the horn is better than the older one and sounds quite royal and different from others..the exhaust note is sweet and kind of changes to a heavier one when you rev it more..

the first 1k kms were like a dream..im still trying to soak it in!!
                    btw i had some questions..
1)i've noticed that when idling the horn sounds different and while riding different..as if at idling the battery is under pressure..is it common??
2)the noise of the fuel pump changes to a lower note when any other thong is started (indicator, pilots, brake lights etc) is this common too..??
3)after the 1st servicing, the next day i could hear a sound from the chain..having been lubed jst a day before, i went to the svc, the guy after taking a ride with me told me that this noise is common on all bikes..but it kind of sounded different as if the chain was rubbing against something..but it wasnt continuous..it came only when the clutch was not engaged.. acc. to the svc guys, i ignored it.. after 2 more days, now the sound is gone.... what could it be?
4)i've read before on this thread about some tukut tukut sound from under the seat when the bike goes over some potholes but dont know what is the thing causing the sound..guys, please throw some light on this..
5)i feel there are some slight vibrations on the handle bars and near the tank area when it is revved to 4k rpm in the 2nd and 3rd gears..and also when i took it to 100kmph !!but it is very slight..r15 being known for having 0 vibes, im confused whether this is normal..i compared it by riding my friends apache rtr 160 i felt his bike too had equal amounts of vibrations may be a bit more, but comparable... what sould i do??
lastly i wanted to know what are the four screws just next to the visor for? keeping the visor in place(most probably?) or has it anything to do with the headlights??

im really sorry for having so many questions but will be obliged if any of the experienced members could reply...
                    thanks again..
after monday and tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!!

Tried it with a couple of friends, but in vain !

I'll going for service on 6th. I'll ask the SVC guys to remove the exhaust and check if they can remove it.

                            Answers to your queries:
                            1. Not sure, but i don't think its a cause for concern.
                            2. Its normal.
                            3. Its the chain noise. The chain is known to make some noise immediately after lubing, & goes away after a few days/ Kms.
                            4. Could be coming from the tool kit (& other stuff you might have kept below the seat). Remove the tool kit (& other stuff) the next time you take the bike out for a spin. See if the sound persists.
                            5. Vibes are normal. Try tightening the tank screws using the allen keys (in the tool-kit) & small spanner. For the clip-ons, you will have to use an external tool (not supplied in tool kit).
lastly, if the 4 screws you're referring to are at the front of the bike (between visor & HL), then it is for holding the visor only.
For HL adjustment, the adjustment screws are located 1 on either side of the digital console. Its adjustable using a + shaped screw driver head, or a small spanner (supplied in tool kit).

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Maybe the SVC mechanic feels its not worth the trouble as my bike is still in its free service period. Seems like he needs some kharcha paani to move his lazy a$$

Won't cutting the exhaust do some damage ?
