  • 2 years / 20,000 kms

My blazing red babe has just completed its 2nd birthday and has done around 20,000 kms on the ODO. And I can never forget the great memories i had with this bike. Also Xbhp is a great place for sharing my experiences. And i feel proud to be a part of this great community and one of the R15 owners !!

I just wanted to write a small ownership report

    Services done - 6
    Parts changed till now
    1) Oil filter(at 9000kms)
    2) Disk pads( rear twice at 9k,13.5k and front at 12k)

Tyres are still ok, but i am planning to change at 25k.
I am due to change fork cone sets also

Mileage- 39 in city riding (slightly ripping), highways 48+(below 100), 38(full ripping)

    Additional accessories
Yamaha tank pad(700), racing seat cowl(2000), steering bolt cap(300), Fork protectors(1000)
    Mods
    Stebel Nautilius air horn- 900
    K&N airfilter (RC 1060)- 1800

No of crashes - 3( 1 by me within 1st week of ownership, and twice by my friends !!!)

My personal top speed acheived on doubles is 139 and 147 in singles !!

    My impressions in random order

1)The best looking bike- from when i bought it in 2008, not even a single day has passed without any one asking me about it. Even nowadays, i get staring glances !!!(this bike made me famous in my college and hometown like everyone keeps saying 'the guy with the red R15')
2)Riding position is very sporty and gives a lot more control
3)Chain needs to be maintained very well, if chain is dry i notice rough transmission and hard gearshifts)
4)Battery is very good, never had a problem with it( i used the bike sometimes after 2 months also)
5)Lights are good, but the beam has to be adjusted properly (especially the high beam)
6)Tires are very good when on tarmac, but very slippery in sand and gravel
    7) Braking is easily the best i can say when compared to other bikes. The bike is damn stable
    8) RVM's paint goes off very easily and RVM serves another purpose by protecting the bike's fairings in case of a fall
9)The bike's throttle response is different depending on condition of the day(its best when it is cold during the night)

I may have to sell if off when the CBR250R comes, but i never want to. Its hard to console me at that time...
Finally, i have to thank Yamaha for giving me such a wonderful machine...its a legend. Its my first bike and has taught me how to ride properly !!!

R15, this bike always sends my pulses racing !

    Attaching some pics !!!

      What's the steering bolt cap?

Are the fork protectors the blue kinda part that is where the alloy's axle is situated?

      Well maintained bike

May be because you are riding solo & then pillion & then solo again, which shall require adjustment.

I am posting two pictures showing an offensive link of the chain, what has caused it? My chain is regularly lubed & cleaned.

First of all let me tell u that the bike is not yet delivered and will take 20 days but my friends, relatives, strangers, enemies all of them saying that u should have gone for bullet or fz or 220

Man,I am really upset about it ..My height is 5'11 and weight 60 KG and 19 years old

Anyways you have booked it. Now just wait. Once you get on the road with R15, you will thank yourself for buying it. R15 is technical at way diff. level than other bikes you specified.

Considering P220, Bullet and FZ, all of them are targetted for different segment and customers, They just cant replace each other.

                Take it this way:
R15: sports touring / highway rides / track- Mostly rider only
Bullet: Touring- Cruising at 80-85 all day long- Rider only or with pillion
P220: Touring at moderate speeds of 100-110- Rider only or with pillion
FZ: Posing/ moderate touring at speeds say 85-90 - Mostly rider only
There's lot to it other than saddle....

                  • @sheel - bike chain needs to be cleaned properly.

Do this, get two cans of zorrick ( pidilite industries ), get it at any hardware store.

Spray one can liberally all over the chain ( a lot of muck is gonna drip from the chain ), leave it overnight.

Then next day, take to SVC centre, tell them to wash with kerosene, water blast and compressed air, use chain clean, and chain lube.

Then again apply a lil zorrick and leave it.

Ideally this gets fixed by removing chain and dipping overnight in kerosene. this method also works as i did for my R15.

                    - KTM Duke 200

Beautiful. Everytime I come onto this forum, my pride for the bike is completely refilled. I feel so good looking at the people around the country who own the same little ripper as me There is no time when I havn't stared at a passing R15 belonging to a random stranger till he passes out of view, despite being on an R15 myself . This baby makes me feel blessed. Re-invigorating the riding spirit every time I turn on that ignition and shift into the first gear. I am going to move onto bigger capacities and inline fours in a couple of years, but this baby will always stay close to my heart and will never be sold.

You mean to say, when you switch to HIGH BEAM, the RIGHT bulb isn't coming on? That is definitely a problem. You get it checked/replaced at the SVC. They should do it for free as your bike is brand new.

By default, only the left bulb comes on in LOW BEAM and BOTH bulbs come on in HIGH beam.

Would the tooth-brush & kerosene technique help? I am using a Motul 'road' chain lube & clean.

If i use kerosene to clean my chain will it give any problem. I ran out of Motul Chain clean. But the lube is still there. I was very apprehensive on cleaning the chain with Kerosene.. If any of you guys gimme a go ahead. Then i will have my weekends work sorted out.

my mechanic recommended to use motul chain clean, but i couldnt find my chain clean so what the mechanic did was he at first cleaned the whole chain with high pressure water then with disel then again with dtergent with the coir it was fully cleaned, i then let that dry and after which i sprayed the lube and again let it stay for around 30 mins and then vroomed. it proved perfect, i have seen people using disel to clean stubborn marks on alloys they clean very well and makes them shine too. give it a try and u shall surely notice the difference.

The tips of sidestand, mainstand, gear lever&chain links all got rusted due to standing in the rain continuously for 5-6 days! I touched them up, cleaned the bike, lubed the chain&left it under the shed of our house so that it doesn't get wet any further.
As for dust, the bike is always dusty except for when it gets washed so I take it easy now.

Yes, they are good quality&give a nice feel. But the anodized paint has gone dull from all the accessories within a few months itself. On my bike, all look the same though some were initially in titanium color&some were golden!
