  • I started the Bike after almost 45 Days and she cranked at the First Press. Impressive. !!

    Just a Question..

It's time for a Oil Change. On Motul 300V FS 15W40 now and the previous 5000Kms. Very Satisfied with this Oil.
Any Suggestions or Opinions on any other FS Oils?
    Agip, Petronas, Shell ??
I wouldn't mind Pouring something different.

    • Guys I have a problem, in the last service I was charged 90 bucks for coolant topup, after that I've noticed that every morning there is a drop or two underneath the bike of a light green water-like fluid. I think that its the coolant and that my coolant tank is leaking. I went to the service center with this problem and they said "there is no problem, since we have filled the coolant tank to the brim with coolant, when the bike is on side stand, it will leak some drops of coolant." I was not fully assured by their explanation but I came back home any how

The question that rattles my mind is a bottle full of water, when closed does not leak water even if it is tilted. So why would a coolant tank, full of coolant, leak coolant if it is tilted(due to the side stand)?

I'm suspecting that either there is a leak in the coolant tank/radiator or they might have not screwed the cap back onto the coolant tank all the way through.

My bike is from the newer lots(i.e. the radiator horn mount shouldn't be a problem with mine). How do I open up the black plastic shield that says deltabox frame to get access to the coolant tank to check it for cracks?

According to what I've read on the web we should always top-up the coolant only after the engine has completely cooled off. This is because the coolant stays in both the radiator and the coolant reservoir and when the engine cools off it returns from the radiator to the reservoir. Then only we should top it up to the max level. Now in your case it might have been that there was some amount of coolant left in the radiator when he topped-up the reservoir. So when you leave the bike overnight or for a long duration the coolant returns from the radiator to the reservoir and overflows. I might be wrong though but this is what I think might be the reason.

And regarding opening the black plastic part, you need to open two bolts and pull that entire plastic part. I have attached a pic showing the position of the 2 bolts. The second one is located on the underside of the plastic.

I'm referring to the FEEL of the bike itself. I feel there's A LOT of difference in the sound and smoothness of the engine.. the 20P models are surprisingly MUCH smoother! What do you guys think?
true the 38B1 is more vibrant and a bit louder than 20P1 and 20P2. its not as swift as previous models. but its still my babe so I love her

In my opinion the changes made in the clutch assembly will have some effect, though not necessary that it is a degrading effect. Its just that the way the power is handled from the crank to the gearbox will have changed, creating a different set of vibes and resonance. This is just an educated guess, but based on experiences I have had till date working on 2 strokes.
well 38B1 has FZ clutch plates, I am saying it as i have 38B1 and have seen it myself.

I dont have knowledge about it, but with my experience and talk with some of the Yamaha guys, they said 38B1 doesnt have auto choke. And my observation and conversation started, as in cold my rpm would be low when I start her in morning and then go up slowly. whereas in 20P1 & P2 I have seen in early morning starts the rpm goes up first and then come down. Yamaha guys said since the price cut down happened they experimented with no auto-choke and since it was successful they didnt put it back. These are based on experience and observation on my bike.

there should be no leakage of coolant as such. you will have to get the hoses (the pipes checked) if you are able to open the side plastic sheet then good check it, or else come this sunday and will let you know how to open it alright

            • Guys, I am thinking of changing my rear tyre to Pirelli 130 after 1500-2000 KM more. Will there be any mileage or Top end drop due to tyre?
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

top end, acceleration and mileage, all will drop.

you also might have handling issues......my advice is don't go for it

I have not ridden the newer 38B1/B2 bikes..but reduced number of clutch plates means decreased smoothness for sure. Less number of clutch plates with increased friction will provide a better power transfer, at the cost of smoothness. You know about "race clutches"? They're not as smooth as regular clutches, but provide better power transfer, and lesser transmission losses. It's something similar. Also, the newer ECUs are half the price of the 20P ECUs, don't know if that means any hardware changes in the ECU.

You can do it on your own if you have the tools...make sure you also have a stand to raise the rear wheel before you start.

If its ok with you, can you describe the process? I mean, what bolts to tighten/loosen etc? I'd really appreciate it. Yes, I have a stand, so raising the wheel isn't an issue.

Btw guys, at 8.8k KMS, my rear tyres are gone. What is the average life of the R15 tyre? What have you guys experienced? The soft compound on the tyre reduces its life-span, right? Especially if you rip the machine often..
