4th Service is the appropriate time to change to a branded engine oil, either semi-synthetic or fully synthetic. You'll experience hard shifts if the oil isn't changed. Also, check chain slack. If the chain is too tight, some members have reported hard gear shiftsOriginally posted by Ascetic View PostGot my bike back after 4th service @ 4344 kms. The bike feels different and the gear shifts have become hard now......

Ok ..
hear some wise words from wise guy [Its me ..as my bike is older than anyone
]
1. Engine oil change -- if using Yamalube semi-synt change it every 3000 km OR Motul full-sunt then change it every 5000 km .. don't use anything else other than these 2
2. Plucking of logo by stupid kids -- use radium stickers instead..will last forever
3. Engine sounds harsh -- use full synth oil and use premium petrol [shell will give smooth feeling] and check for tappet adjustment [as only last resort ...never touch tappets] .. there is no adverse effect with this harsh feeling ..trust me i too felt it
4. Tyres : MRF stock tires available in B'lore ..check with all showrooms .. 6months back i changed that time original price is 900/ for front 1500/- back .. [many showroom will sell them in black ..check before buy ..dont give anything more than the price i mentioned 100 +/-]
5. yesterday changed my chain and spockets after 28000km on odo .. costed me 2300/- for chain and front and back spockets
6 all most all the fairing are cracked now .. waiting for the new body kit for R15 to release ..
7. Till now no component change happened apart from Tiers and chain/spocket now .. everything else is as new as when i brought it
8. Now completed more than 2.5 years ..still feels like new
9. Hard Gear shift: as i come to know from other members ..shifting gears should happen at heigher rpm [above 5k] for noiseless and smooth shift and it works .. in lower rpm it will always make noise.. i think bike is designed in this way
anything else let me know .. will glad to help

Has the fairing cracked on its own or due to accidents and all ?Originally posted by nagoo View PostOk ..

Mineral grade is 20w40, semi synthetic grade is 15w50.Originally posted by Ascetic View PostThe SVC guys have poured yamalube 4T 15W50 SL whereas in the manual the engine oil grade mentioned is 20W40 SG. And how long can we run on semi synthetic oil? 3K kms? or 1K km???
I use the semi synth for around 4-4.5K kms.&that includes touring mostly.
You have to get it done outside, may cost you about 3-4K.Originally posted by Ascetic View PostDoes anyone know what would be the cost of repainting the bike (as i want to go for LE colour scheme)
Its very important that the paint shade etc.is matched perfectly. I can help you with this if you are really serious about it.
I have 2 lube cans, one dry type is almost over&the other one I got recently, so please feel free to come&use it. I will do it for you if you don't know how to do it!Originally posted by Ascetic View PostIts is also recommended that after every wash the chain should be lubed but i dont own a lube can .... so cant i just leave the chain after i wash the bike or is lubing necessary???
Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Am using Agip fully synthetic oil and Shell fuel. Engine is still harsh. Any comments on how or why my engine sounds so different from any other R15?Originally posted by neoakshay View PostI've completed 14,000km on my R15!
Bike is 7 months old, and feeling as good as ever.. OR SO I THOUGHT!
went for a ride with some Bangalore xBhpians, found that my bike's engine is quite harsh sounding and noisy compared to all the other R15s..
My bike also lacks low-end power. I've taken care of my bike like a baby, and running-in period was done according to the manual. Also, i'm currently running Agip Fully Synthetic Oil. Put this oil in at 11500 km on ODO. Bike's performance is good as i've touched 145kmph on many occasions, and getting mileage of 33 - 42kmpl depending on riding conditions..
I don't know what i need to check.. I know there's a difference between the 2008/2009 and the 2010 bikes, but the difference between my bike and most others is just way too much. feels like a different bike altogether, i mean in a bad way. Its loud, vibey at the footpegs and handlebars. Funny thing is the bike sometimes smoothens out completely, no vibes at all after its ridden for 20km or so.. but the engine is quite loud.
Should i write to Yamaha? anyone knows what the problem could be?A good rider has balance, judgment, and good timing. So does a good lover!
