the same happended with me too , same around 4800-5000kms... first open the front cowl and check if cable is screwed connected tight and connected , it is not really tight fitted from factory.. if its screwed tightthen the cable might have broken.. you will need to change that .. Do not take to SVC as they charge double than actual cost... go to loacl spares shop get replacement speedo cable should cost aroung rs 50 -60.. and replace by self .. its just a simple swap .. all you need a phillips type scre driver .Originally posted by ullysius View PostThe speedometer suddenly stopped working today, my friend who owns a twister is also facing the same problem.. I have clocked 4800+ kms currently...
the same we use for our desktops :P :P

if the asc is refusing to sell you basic spares like spark plug / engine oil / air filter, shoot an email to Honda or visit their website and give a 'feedback/complaint'. they will call you back in 24hrs. worked for me!Originally posted by 2wtourer View Posttill now i used to do full oil change by draining all oil and well 1l is fine as there comes the need to top up every 500Kms.. so works out fine 1l for around 2500-3000kms after which again full oil change.. is there any place i can order the spark plugs online ?? as the honda spare dealer have the specified model and the SVC refuse to give it without adding labor or service costs for which i would have to give my bike for service which am not going to do .

i had to replace both oddo and speedo cable together at just 2.8k as the cable had got cut internally. seems like some serious quality issues or some mischief by honda dealers to earn money. before replacement the speedo needle use to move steadily but now after replacement the there is a mild shaking of speedo needle takes place at low speeds.Last edited by sachin1111; 11-15-2012, 01:53 PM.

I went to SVC today, they told me that the cable has to be changed,He did not even check it. He told me it happens to many twisters. There was no spare cable available so they told me to come next week.. My bike is still under warranty so do i get the cable free??

If i was in Chennai i would have definitely asked you to 'rent' out the cbr to meOriginally posted by 2wtourer View PostGUys i am to go to the US next month ,, and would not be back till may 2013, not i have found a caretaker for one of my cbr250r (my cousin brother) but not for my twister or the other cbr.. am thinkin gof selling it as its old now.. idk if i should or i can as i love it and also i got it second hand.. anyhow have decided to RENT-out my twister as i don't want to sell it and may need it for in-city driving..

alas i am in Hyderabad and still in a dilemma on which bike to purchase under 1lakh.
It is best you leave the bikes with a trusted friend (that's what i did for 4 months when i was out of the country - and the bikes(Dio / RX100) were ridden for around 3km every other day by my friend who mostly uses his car for commuting), than strangers (even if you have an 'agreement') - not everyone will show as much love n care on the bike as they would on paper (while signing the agreement)
And i am not sure about the arrangement for such legal agreements with the other party..

Yes. it is probably a faulty cable (or the cable has come loose). If your speedo was working and the odo not working then you probably have to go to a meter repair fellow to get it fixed(which is the case on my dio right now)Originally posted by ullysius View PostI went to SVC today, they told me that the cable has to be changed,He did not even check it. And no the speedo cable will not be covered under warranty.(maybe if it happened within a week of purchasing the bike they MAY do it under warranty)
and you should be able to get this checked and replaced at most 'local' mechs.

before renting out the bike better do full servicing....because you never know how harsh or ill maintained it will be during that 6-7 month.Originally posted by 2wtourer View PostGUys i am to go to the US next month ,, and would not be back till may 2013, not i have found a caretaker for one of my cbr250r (my cousin brother) but not for my twister or the other cbr.. am thinkin gof selling it as its old now.. idk if i should or i can as i love it and also i got it second hand.. anyhow have decided to RENT-out my twister as i don't want to sell it and may need it for in-city driving..

i dont much about legal formalities except that you must have some proper identity documents of the person you handing over your bike to. this is very important because in case your bike gets involved in some kind of accident leading to death or bike is caught while doing some crime/illegal activity then police will come straight to your house knocking your door and you might find yourself in trouble.secondly here in goa...as per law, bikes which are used for renting are registered as "transport" vehicles and have number plates of different color( black and yellow number plates).thats all i know.Originally posted by 2wtourer View Posti intend to pot it under an AMC before i rent it out.. have decided to rent the old cbr too.. but is there any legal formalities that i need to do ? if so what ? kindly help..

IMO, if you are renting/leasing (or whatever the term isOriginally posted by 2wtourer View Posti intend to pot it under an AMC before i rent it out.. have decided to rent the old cbr too.. but is there any legal formalities that i need to do ? if so what ? kindly help..
) it out - it amounts to 'making' money, and this in turn puts it the commercial category. Which i think may not be as simple as an agreement -- For e.g. there are taxi/cab operators who take the car from a third party (who is the actual owner of the car) and pay him a fixed monthly fee and the maintenance etc.. is the responsibility of the cab operator not the owner. But these are all registered as commercial vehicles (yellow plate with black letters).
If its a commercial setup then the agreement can be drafted according to what the parties decide, but in your case i don't think you want to go thru all these hassles.
At the best you can give it one of your friends and get at-least an 'email confirmation' from them (if you want to have some level of monetary protection if god forbid something wrong happens)

i had asked my friends . the most trustful of them just got new bikes .. also they will be going outstation too.. the reason to rent is this that it will be running and also the rent will pay for the services and repairs if any.

@2wtourer- Do not rent the bike. In your case it is a CBR which can easily be man-handled by any one. Renting a bike is very bad idea. As when you return your bike will not be in a condition to even look at.
By the way for how much time you are going abroad. Ok, i saw just now you will not return till may 2013. No worry, if your family is here then you can store the bike. If you want how to safely store the bike then i will give you the idea.
My suggestion is to sell the twister as it is a commuter bike and you will get good amount. Hand the old cbr after servicing to cousin brother as since it is old it will require frequent running. Store the new cbr as it is new and will not require much maintenance from storage.
If you want i will give you the process for safe storage.Photo of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time.
