  • Tragedy befell me !!

    Hey Brothers ..

well i had a tragedy with my sweet twisty.. i believe the chain was loose but not enough to notice it.. and well when i started yesterday morning (doubles) the chain slipped and got lodged towards the outer rim of the sprocket between the sprocket and shock absorber.. i was not able to remove it without removing the bolt holding the shocks.. i noticed that the sprocket tooth were all intact and it was also perfectly straight *no bends.. only damage (minor) was that the bolt holding the sprocket was shaved by 1/3 (of the excess already sticking out) and a minor shave/scratch on the shaft..my close inspection showed it was all ok and that chain needed tightening.. yeah the sprocket rim(the extra ring like thing towards to outside) was bent in places - this was from where the chain bent it and slipped into the gap to get stuck...

finally i gave the bike to the service center and today they called me saying 1. air filter needs replacement .2 Sprockets to be changed.. 3 oil change 4. general service...and have quoted a bill of rs 2450.. (ie 1700 for air filter and sprocket.) is the quote correct ??

and should i change the sprocket ? have completed 16500 kms ? but the sprocket is all perfect , no bends or over used/ damaged teeth ?

    • I would recommend you to go to your nearest local spares shop and check out the prices of the sprocket. They sell original Honda products and also Local products.Go for original I have noticed these guys charge very high and the work done by the workshop is not up to the mark. Now getting it done at the service shop or local mechanic is up to you completely buy you can at least check the prices. The air filter costs 150-170 i dont remember properly i had replaced 4 months back. So the the sprocket is more than 1500 bucks according to the service center guys.

      • My two cents regarding petrol theft on twister.- solution.

As everyone knows the petrol pipe of the twister is very easily accessible. You can just remove the pipe and petrol flows. In the past 2 years of my ownership i have lost loads of petrol.I always avoided Putting petrol lock cause it would mean i would have to carry 2 keys at all times. The second problem was every shop i asked didn't know which petrol lock would fit this bike. Two days back when my petrol was gone during broad daylight I couldnt take it and more and immediately knew i had to buy a petrol lock.

So the shop again said twister lock is not available but when i asked for unicorn lock they had it. I took a shot and its a perfect fit. It similar to our petrol knob and round in shape and doesn't stick out of the bike and looks same.
Now regarding the carrying 2 keys issue i keep the petrol lock key under my seat.So i just have to grab it from there. This removes the problem of carrying a key or forgetting the key at home n having to go back and get it.

Cost - 130 for lock - 20 for labor.>>in case anyone is suffering from the same problem this might help.

i too faced the same chain slip problem yesterday morning while going to office once & two times when i return back in evening.. In my case also chain slipped in between the sprocket & shock absorber. But i can able to replace it myself easily. And in the evening i went directly to my mechanic shop to tight the chain.
No need to change the sprocket until it worn or damaged

          Chain sprocket costs. - 900rs
          Air Filter costs - 137
          Engine oil - 300 to 500
          Labor max - 200

          Total max - 1537 to 1537

The above mentioned all are genuine Honda parts.

          Rs.2450 is toooooo high,

that was bit of shocking story. was the chain lubed during last 1000km?...it could have happened that chain links had become completely dry and got stuck in its place...hence did not roll over the sprocket and bent/slipped out. although this can also happen with too much loose chain but you would have noticed it with high chain noise during ride. Now thing is that either the chain or the sprocket or both are not ok. I would strongly suggest to change both sprocket and chain together. I can understand the cost involved is quite high and not affordable...but you cannot compromise with the safety of bike because there is a high risk involved here.NEVER USE NEW CHAIN WITH OLD SPROCKET OR VICE VERSA....THIS WILL LEAD TO RAPID CHAIN WEAR. this has been mentioned in Twister user manual page 56.
i dont think sprockets cost 1500.....may be it was the combined price of new chain+new sprocket.you can call all nearby authorized Honda service center dealer over phone and ask for the price of 1)chain and 2)sprocket and compare the prices. you can get Honda dealer phone numbers across india through honda website.

Do not use pulser plugs for Twister...it will spoil the engine. Twister spark plug model number is CPR7EA-9 made by NGK and thats the one to be used. twister needs 800ml oil and this bottle costs Rs 195...no need to buy 1 lit bottle for normal oil change.

till now i used to do full oil change by draining all oil and well 1l is fine as there comes the need to top up every 500Kms.. so works out fine 1l for around 2500-3000kms after which again full oil change.. is there any place i can order the spark plugs online ?? as the honda spare dealer have the specified model and the SVC refuse to give it without adding labor or service costs for which i would have to give my bike for service which am not going to do .

dude are you sure you need to top up every 500km?..that is not a good sign.I do oil change at 1.5k interval and regularly check oil level every 15 days but the oil level drops by just 1-2 millimeters max on dip stick marker even after 2k.thus never felt the need to do top up till date.
by the way Honda dealers are suppose to provide all spare parts in their service center...they are using unfair means.
you can get NGK plugs for from local shops...just make sure model number is same.you can try searching NGK dealer in your area from NGK website.
