    I agree that it's not the best bike even in India , but what you look for in a bike guides you to the decision.

    During these 6 good years I've had a few recurrent problems but nothing too bad. Maybe my initial rigorous maintenance is to credit. However, I don't not agree with most of the posts that claim that Pulsars are generally unreliable. At least that's not the case with my ride. I replaced my Chain, Sprockets and Battery by 30,000 Km. No other major replacement (Not considering the tires).

    I have to admit that I faced a few small unimportant but irritating snags all along. So here they are:

    * The side-stand indicator failed when the bike was a couple months, had it replaced thrice and it just darn kept failing.

    * Transmission gets notoriously rough with constant thrashing of city riding .

    * Handling is a stone-age affair by today's standards.

    * Brakes are adequate but lack the seriously safe feel. Likely to do with the forward weight bias of the chassis and engine placement design.

    * Lights are a joke in this model. You're better of using a damn flashlight strapped to your handlebars. Seriously limits evening touring speeds on twisty state highways.

    That's it... I mean these are pretty big trade-offs for today's bike buyer but back in 04, these were hardly any concerns. Besides what alternative did we have, the seriously gawky Fieros or the insanely pocket burdening CBZs... This bike wins the contest hands down back then. Yep, it's an all-rounder, a good one at that.

    Now I've come to see some really strong points of owning this bike properly...:

    * RELIABLE

    * Low on maintenance. In fact some hard acceleration and highway pounding at full throttle just blew the inner tube of the exhaust two years ago. Had it replaced under warranty . Seeeeee... maintenance pays dividends.

    * Great ride feel.

    * A very very very REV HAPPY engine.... 'The more you wring the sweeter it sings.'

    * Very consistent mileage. 50-55 kmpl.

    * Affordable spare costs.

    * Acceptable corner carving capabilities.

    * Decent appeal and status presence. Nowadays they're too common and the appeals if very rapidly fading into absence.

    I like this bike and will continue to use it.... I may get a better more powerful, snazzy bike, but this loyal steed of mine will always stay
    Fayad, very vital points have been shared by you.
    I hav almost the same bike i.e 150 DTSi 2004 and I trust the bike like anything. For me at this point of time I think that a bike which is almost 6yrs old and still gives you 50kmpl and often does 112kmph is not that bad. Blame it on the way its kept by the rider a lot depends on the service history of the bike. The bike need an good service maintence time and religously changing the fluids at intervals.
    Lights in my case are the same but they are satisfactory beacause I avoid night touring, an additional spot light is not that bad niether it need any rocket chemistry to attach the same. My bike had already done close to 60kms and running on 2nd set of sproket set and 3 set of cluth plates.
    I survied 2 crashes which caused a lot of parts replacement like heasdlight front coul, front rim& disk plate etc. Bike is again new with parts which are very friendly to pocket. Just imagine Indicator is just arnd 45/-, very simple to own and I think its the best DTSI engine made by BAJAJ. The way the engine can be enjoyed is simply mindboggling.
    I feel that Pulsar is like an bike which will act the way u want it to. When you are in the 2nd half of the month and u want to stretch the mileage just keepp it below 55kmph ,u will be rewarded with superb kick of average, AND
    if u feel in mood to rip the rev to the limiter , u will be smilling inside the helmet, even it may not be going above ton but I feel that all other Pulsar owners also feel the same that their PUlsar 150DTSi 04' that the DRAMA,the engine pounding is very nostalgic when compared to so called city slickers like HH & H engines. Bike behaves the way it is meant to be felt.
    The DTSi is the bike to keep & garage it for years to come ,even when there will be an Ninja 600 standing beside it !!!

      I completely agree with bro.. DTSI is really awesome dike & I belive 150 pulsar is allover really good package as
      price is quit ok in compare to other 150cc bikes ,
      pick up is awesome ,
      spare is quite affordable & pocket friendly ,
      stylish (so called city slickers like HH & H engines),
      really good mileage even i think it is the best mileage giving 150cc bike , nice exhausts note .
      all over pulsar is a awesome bike - definitely male
      but the saddest part is the fuc***g svc , they are the main culprit for ruining your bike even the svc where I go they even don't use original parts , they use only local low quality bad products.
      pulsar is a street fighter & the model of is so nice that what ever visual mod you do , it will suite & look good

              • Ideas and opinions pls...

                P150 Dts-i'05.

                1. The ride has been getting softer and softer all along and now with a pillion, the bikes handling is unbearable. It's bad as it is with the P150, it's getting really worse. Is there any way I can get the nitrox in the shocks discharged and fresh gas put in?

                2. What's the average life of the clutch plate?

                3. The forks seem to become loose and rattle on bumpy roads. Getting it tightened only fixes the prob for a few hundred kms. Any whiz fixes by fellow xbhpians? and yes! the fork wobbles when left hands-free at speeds between 40-60 kmph.

                4. Theres a slight clicking noise every few piston strokes when the bike is idling, particularly evident during slow rides. My mechanic says it's the timing chain, but adds that it's in good enough a condition, but the darn noise. Any precedents and fixes please?

                Looking forward to..... whatever...

                  Ya..thats vry sad to hear that the bike which we love is not loved by the mechnic. But I think I am a bit lucky in this space. Even when I as in Hometown, i used to service the bike at the mechanic who used in ASC and was trainned for Pulsar for that region..... lucky me..
                  And in Delhi from quite few yrs....was really fed up with ASC but finnally have he bike serviced at a gd garage where all the things are done in front of our eys and the owner in an MOTOCross racer himself... Bike is in running and is being serviced every 2300kms with oil change every time. It all paybacks with an huge grin when the Bike is taken to for an spin to the hills or some miles munching...

                    Very true man,i think the ug1 dtsi engine is the best dtsi engine,i had a pulsar150 dtsi ug 1 for 6 years,In its 6 years of life span it did not given me any sort of problem,but unluckly i had to exchange with the new byke and now i am deeply regretting with my decision

                          • p 150 ug 4.5 problem

                            I have a pulsar 150 ug 4.5 with around 650 kms on the odometer. After the first servicing which was done 40 days back, I feel that the engine sound has become a bit harsh, though the performance hasn't changed. Is it normal for the engine sound to change a bit after servicing?

                            Another problem is that the front disc continuously rubs against the alloy wheel and makes a strange noise....the effect of rubbing makes the front wheel to undergo great amount of friction.....SVC guys reported it to be normal.

                            Experts plz put some light on this.

                              I think its a common thing. My bike's engine sound was also changed after first service. My bike lost its bass a bit and now it sounds something like gradiator but not exactly. The front wheel wil not run freely as the disc pads always touching disc and its not a prob. Anyways Lets wait for an expert to answer..:-)

                              • Dear bikers, I have a Pulsar 150 UG4.5with 550kms on Odometer.I have got a small problem once,after riding for nearly 30kms I stopped the bike and when tried to start the Bike refused to come to life.I checked the ignition was ON,Engine kill switch on ON position,Gauge check OK but starter didn't buzz.I again switched off the ignition and tried again and it started.Can someone tell me what can be the problem? Once I had noticed that the tachometer stuck up at 1.5k after starting.It also became OK on restarting.Is it serious?Has anyone experienced a thing like this on their on their bike too?
