  • Just changed the engine oil at ~140+km now after the engine overhaul.

The Castrol Activ 4T oil drained out just like water. I mean the flow was very high and it came out very easily. There seemed to be no viscosity at all when looked at. The engine was hot as much as it would be when run for around 31km. Is that kind of flow normal? Looks bad to me. Please note that the oil was in for just around 140 km appx.

Is this why everybody here prefers Motul instead of Castrol?

I think i would switch over to Motul right after i cross 1500km mark.

    • Which oil you are using now? I have no experience with Castrol but i would prefer ELF in mineral. Easily available and very smooth engine performance. Engine runs cooler. There is a separate thread for Engine oil discussions, there you can get your doubts cleared
Edit: Change your engine oil again at 750kms, 200rs is worth spending.

I used a new can of the same Castrol Activ 4T 20W40 engine oil now.
I'll change the oil once again as you said at 750km with Elf engine oil this time. I never used Elf before, i'll try it at 750kms.

Again castrol? Always try different engine oils and find out which one suits your bike the best

Yes, that's really not good. I've been using Castrol all the time. I had previously used 'Motul 30004T 15W50' and the engine ran smooth for a couple of 100kms after that it became rough again (I think it was because my engine was really bad then, burning oil and all . The oil level however did not drop at that time when seen from the glass window ).

This time i'll switch to Elf at 750km and after 1000 or 1500km, i'll start using Motul.

Which one do you recommend? I want mineral oil only whatever it is.
But Motul 30004T 20W40 or 15W50? Please suggest which one is better as per you all for Pulsar 150 UG3?

            • Just a few minutes ago, i was visually inspecting the engine area of my Pulsar and i was surprised with an oily patch around the left spark plug area.

After a thorough inspection while keeping the engine running i saw what's attached. The oil is leaking from the rocker arm bolt One drop per 50seconds or so. I'm feeling so bad once again. Hope it's just the nut tightening issue. I'll be taking my mc to Castrol as soon as it opens.

Edit: OMG! i just tried rotating it with my fingers and i could, it was that loose. I just tightened it now. Oh boy, last time it was the engine oil drain nut and this time the rocker arm nut, uff, these Castrol people!

I have no experience with motul mate, i could not find it anywhere here in my area. Valvoline champ mineral oil was good,ELF is equally good but looses smoothness earlier than the former.. And pls stick to company recommended grade, i had shifted to 20w50 and i dont like it much, rpm needle is very lazy to climb up. As far as i observed from engine oils thread, Motul, Gulf, Valvoline and ELF are the best oils available in mineral.

Can someone please let me know more on this question i asked earlier?

                    • RPM meter gets the current from the coil of the engine. Faster the engine runs higher the current output from coils hence the rpm climbs up. I may be wrong , do a bit of Google.

No, i think you're right. The only wires that come out from the engine area are the ones on the left side of the engine , just near the top glass window. So mostly they should be the ones that tap engine rpm from the magneto coil like you said. See the pic attached.

Even i had the same question in my mind. Remember, during self check the rpm needle goes to one complete cycle so if its connected mechanically it is not possible for this to happen. So it is an electronic one

                          • I have another query right now in my mind. Its kinda funny but i feel like asking it here.

There is one self diagnostic check thing that happens just when we switch on our key to the ignition mode. The engine rpm meter goes from 0-12 and then comes back to 0 again.

You all might have noticed that this process of going from 0 to 12 and then back to 0 happens quite fast in Yamaha R15 and CBR250R.

Now my question is can we increase that speed in our P150s? Also, our mcs skips numbers when we accelerate fast. But in case of RTR, and maybe CBR and R15, show all the consecutive digits quickly when we do 0 to 60kmph.

P150s do that by skipping digits in between. Can we do any alterations to it so that it shows every increase in number.

                            Funny doubt eh?

Again one thing that makes me feel the engine is lazy Heard that it is something to do with the processor inside digital meter. But there is no other solution than changing the entire speedo ..!

Hehe god knows which processor chip exists in our P150 and its speed in Mhz.

I had opened the speedo once but i did not observe the circuitry in that much detail. I opened it because the rpm needle was stuck at 1000 rpm in place of 0 and it used to do that self check from 1000rpm to 12000rpm and back to 1000 rpm. I moved the needle manually back to 0
