An excerpt from wiki of the keyword TachometerOriginally posted by princesirohi View Postthe engine RPM is measured from cdi, by the number of firing pulses it gives in a given time (say a second or so). and not from ignition coil.
"On recent EMS found on modern vehicles, the signal for the tachometer is usually generated from an ECU which derives the information from either the crankshaft or camshaft speed sensor"
It could be true that the CDI is the device which sends the signals to the digital meter which then converts it to analogue motion of the RPM needle but the thing is shouldn't there be a location from where the RPMs are actually measured? Shouldn't it be from a location in the engine or an engine part that rotates and gives the actual engine rotation speed to the devices that translate rotation speeds to signals?

I bought a pulsar 150cc Silver color version UG 4.5 yesterday.... now practicing how to drive it.. it is really smooth ....
Guys one doubt... can i use clutch often... i tend to use clutch everytime I apply brakes, so that when the speed goes down I can shift to correct gear depending on the speed..
Is it good to use clutch while braking?
Also guys I am in running in period, i am not exceeding 40kms speed and 4000 rpm....could you give me some more tips that I should follow during the running in period?Last edited by sudarsan7532; 07-16-2011, 03:41 PM.

No, you should not use clutch while braking. Infact, during run-in period you should accelerate every gear upto 4000rpm and upshift. While you want to down shift or brake just let the engine braking come into play first, then apply brakes accordingly. Declutch only at the moment when you want to upshift/downshift like when you're close to a speed breaker or something. The key to proper running in is to let the engine encounter various rpms at each gear and this won't happen properly if you declutch all the time to brake.
Ride safe and don't rev the bike more than 4000rpm at least for a 1000km.
Change the engine oil thrice till you reach 1000kms, like at 150km, 750km and then at 1000km. After that you can increase the drain interval between 1000-1500 or more based on the engine oil you choose. You can use the service center oil itself for the running in (But change it as mentioned). After the 1000km mark you can use the engine oil you wish to use. Motul is recommended by most of the people here.
@All, If there's anything else important that i missed, please let sudarshan know.

Any info on this is welcome. I have just read that it is measured from coil, in Xbhp itselfOriginally posted by ab47 View PostAn excerpt from wiki of the keyword Tachometer

Congrats sudharshan, its not about speed its all about engine rpm, keep it below 4000k. As ab47 said use clutch only when the bike is slowed down or when changing gears. If you hold the clutch immediately after releasing accelerator, the bike would not stop. (Not safe). I have posted a link regarding run-in process, go back two pages and you will find it. 3rd oil change can be done after 1500kms and drain interval of 1500 kms for mineral oil would be perfect IMO.
Its good to see this thread active after a loooong wait
Thanks to ab47

I wanted to know if anyone here have previously seen the 'Koso RX2' speedometer?
Its a digital one and has got lots and lots of cool gadgetry in it. Just do a search for the text in quotes above in youtube and take a look just at the self check and you'll be blown away with its coolness.
On many websites, it says that it can be installed on almost any bike (the wiring thing has to be known though) I think this can be a really cool modification for anyone who's looking for some nice modded speedos with lots of usable functions.
If anyone has info on its price, availability or any kind of experience with this speedo, please do post.

Guys, guess what??!!! Bajaj is launching a new pulsar with only cosmetic changes in august. And a totally new pulsar based on a completely new platform in the last quarter of this financial year. I heard the wholly new pulsar is being developed with the help of austrian bike manufacturer KTM!

On some websites, its priced around 350$ so approximately it comes around to 15k and this is without shipping. Don't know how much it would cost with shipping. anyway, even if we managed to buy it and get it here, will we be able to fix it? There's a lot of wiring to be taken care of for everything to work properly.Originally posted by easy rider View PostMan!! They have already given the black theme for all the pulsar variants. What would be the next cosmetic changeOriginally posted by easy rider View PostGuys, guess what??!!! and the bold part is what keeps everyone excited
Yes its damn costly but the specifications are a big list. Range is 0-320 kmph so it should be accurate than other speedos existing here. The wiring is also given in some websites.Originally posted by ab47 View PostOn some websites, its priced around 350$ so approximately it comes around to 15k and this is without shipping. I also wonder on how compatible it will be with Indian bikes. And even if we do get it fixed i'm sure we'll be encountering a lot of niggles.Originally posted by ab47 View PostOn some websites, its priced around 350$ so approximately it comes around to 15k and this is without shipping. I think they'll try to do something with the headlight and taillight and they might redesign the tank flaps for the one's releasing in august. For the one's releasing next year, i'm sure they are going to come with a monoshocks and a pulsar with a displacement of 250 or higher with fill fairingOriginally posted by Prabhakar150 View PostThey have already given the black theme for all the pulsar variants.
