Anything out of the specs is illegal and they can fine u, no matter u've installed the HID on a projector or not. The vehicle is certified by the DOT as per the stock specs, if u alter anything its out of the way and u r eligible for a ticket.

To be honest, for 2.5K u wont get a decent one as the margin is huge here, so in reality, u r paying only 50% of it. For a decent projector pair will cost $75 =3675 (FOB) add another 40% =1470 approx as duties and shipping will come to 5145 will be the landed cost for a pair of HID projector. Add another 75-100% margin which is approx 10000/ for a pair. The supplier will have to provide atleast 6 months warranty. where the manufacturer will give a min of 1year warranty from the date of import and if any of the units found to be defective, the importer have to send the pics of the ballast which is known for defectives after cutting the wires from the ballast, and on subsequent purchases, the manufacturer will add the no of defective units as free along with the fresh purchases. This is a very long process and if the product is found to be not worth to import, the importer wont order it from that supplier hence the margin is escalated to this much.

So roughly it will be 5K for a decent quality unit. But there are projector units selling for MRP of 2.5K onwards here, so just imagine the quality of the unit.

I would say if u r going to buy a non branded (its a reality that its hard to find a trusted brand in economic range), have a touch & feel of the product and ask for a demo on a wall and assess the shadows , the spread have to be even all sides there should not be any black regions in the spread areas except the sides. Good quality lens will give crisp cut off line with an even beam spread with no shadows.

What about using the projectors of cars like skoda, benz etc ?
I saw a sealed hL assembly of skoda laura at a shop(they salvage parts from total loss cars)
He quoted me Rs.3000 with bulb.
What do u say about this deal?
any pros and cons of using it ?

I am not sure but, its a direct fit for any bike with a back housing. They says its specifically for RE, this particular model is selling for 3-3.5K which is not good in performance. I guess Ranjitmurali was using it for a while, u can ping him for the reviews.

Ask the dealer for a wall projection, warranty specs etc. and then decide. Without branding can't say anything.

        • Need Suggestions

          Hello,

I have my R15's headlight dome's mounting points are broken due to an accident and needs replacement (the headlight is holding in place by only one nut and may fall on bad roads).

I was thinking of getting projector setup instead of the Stock headlight.

I contacted MXmotosport for the same and was quoted ~7800 for projector setup (including installation in current headlight assembly and 9000 for new Headlight assembly with projectors.
          Is it OK???

Moreover, I was thinking the setup should be HID 35W 4300K Bixenon for Low beam (i.e. Left side headlight of R15) and 55W Halogen (preferrably nightvision type) for high beam. Both should be projector setup.
Note: I use Pass light function very often instead of horns and so high beam HID is not a good idea.

So, My query is whether we have Halogen projectors available in India specially Delhi NCR region. And whether the Quoted Price by Mxmotosport is OK (considering a New Stock headlight assembly costs INR 2350).

          Thanks for your quick response.

              Hi Prateek,
              Thanks for the info..

Unfortunately, I'm not good at bargaining; moreover, the quoted price was for new headlight assembly with both sides Bi-Xenon HID projectors...

So, if you suggest to bargain to 6700-7000; is it for the above mentioned setup or the one I want (1 Bi-xenon HID Projector and 1 55W Halogen projector in new headlight assembly). If yours suggestion is for their setup; I could expect it be a little more lower for My requirement as halogen projectors should be costing much less than the HID one???

I like to install HID lights for my R15. I have shortlisted two bulbs, osram xenarc and philips Blue Vision ultra. Between these which one i should go for. I know about xenon bulbs, in chennai where should i buy a genuine one. Price is not an issue, all i need is an branded one.

I have ordered that along with this 1156 2W 150-Lumen Car Brake/Turning Signal Yellow Light Bulbs with Optical Lens (Pair/DC 12V) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme and this T10 2W 6500K 126-Lumen 9-SMD LED Car White Light Bulbs (Pair/DC 12V) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

It's been about 5 days since it shipped. I'll let you know, once I get the package. I'm trying to make enough room for 35w x 2 Philips HID.

I've had bad experience with LEDs which are longer that 15mm in length. They are prone to loose contact. Individual LEDs die out. Adding some silicon glue here and there helped in increasing the life span of the LEDs.

Over the past one month or so, I've been doing great amounts of research both offline and online. Called up a few dealers here in Bangalore. Spent a great amount of time on forums. As far as I've learnt.. Osram doesn't sell HIDs as conversion kids. They only sell bulbs which fit into cars which come with OEM Ballast.

Philips on the other hand does have a conversion kit, which is available exclusively in South East Asian Markets, but here in Bangalore, you only get 6000K. I'm in search of a branded kit in 4200K color temperature.

There a lot of fake Philips, Bosch and Hella HIDs out there in the market. They look exactly like the original ones. Philips comes with a code which can be verified on their website to check for authenticity.

If you do find genuine Philips 4200K Conversion Kit in Chennai, please let me know. I need one too.

Mods: Sorry for the second post in immediate succession. I somehow missed this one.
