  • I own an Yamaha Sz-R. It is running on the stock 35W HS1 osram bulbs and the headlight works even when bike is not running (directly from battery).

So now my question here is :

I ride the bike sometimes at night in places where its not properly lit, the stock bulb is good in those narrow lanes but on highway my speed needs to cut down drastically as i feel the same light is insufficient.
So I want to go for a higher watt bulb. I don't want to meddle with the headlight assembly fixing HID or doing any of the costly stuff as i don't really ride all night long.

I heard those phillips night bulbs cost 900rs and decided to ask here if its really worth it? Any cheaper alternates? Also will replacing the 35W with 55W/60W affect the battery life or the headlight reflectors? I don't have a parking lamp but there is a small slot for it I guess but its closed, so can we fix a parking lamp in that case? How much all these might cost me?

There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

Dude, I have a 35W single H4 voice coil HID lamp that was running well on my karizma. Would you have H7 adapters for it? I am based out of bangalore and could bring the lamp to you. Sent you a mail on gmail.

SZ-R shares it's stator plate and electricals with FZ. Try searching in FZ ownership thread, you'll find something.

Having toured on both SZ and FZ for over 5000+ kms, I can tell you that SZ's reflector setup is better than FZs. Try saving some battery juice by opting for LEDs within your console, and for those brake lamps. You should be able to squeeze an HID.

Temporary solution would be to keep the dim-dip switch half way through so that both the filaments lightup, but this is only temporary

I want to know 130/100 Philips glowing at 13.25 volt or the 35w hid 4200k
which one is more useful in driving.
presently i am using 130/100 & interested to know if there is any hid kit more than
        55w 4200k available in market.
Which bike do you ride? Your reflectors are able to hold up to such heat?

        • I am using Suzuki samurai metal reflector made by minda which is capable of
handling 130/100 philips H4 halogen without any problem. I am using it more
          than two years.

If so, I'm really interested to know the awg of wire with which your stator is wound. Any idea? Also, a pic would be helpful.
And mate, 100W HID would literally blind the oncoming traffic, 35W HID has more Lumens than a 130W halogen, go for a 35W HID. Also, a 100W HID would be an overkill on the battery aswell.

I myself am new to Kolkata but I'll inquire & let you know. Better ask Raneet Mallick (XBhpian) or Rockstar18 (XBhpian) or Rahul Barik (XBhpian)... will try to get some info.

Its expensive but I guess its worth for the lumens it gives. Whats the purpose?

U may get cheaper onez in local market but these comes in a strip with less intensity.
