  • How to estimate fuel economy ?

AFAIK this is the method. Fill your tank until auto-cutoff. Drive until the main gets empty. You should obviously know the size of the main tank. In pulsar 180 ug4 the main tank can hold 11.8 ltrs ( 15 ltrs(total tank) - 3.2 ltrs(reserve) = 11.8 ltrs). So the no. of kms clocked from the moment the tank is filled to the moment the bike stalls divided by 11.8 is the fuel economy value of your bike.

        • Hi Friends.
I am just back from a 400kms(round) journey on my bike. Actually, I went to the Passport office at Bhopal for filing application. Bhopal is 200kms from Indore, the whole road is 4 lane. Started at 7AM from Indore, filled up tank for 500 rs\10ltrs. The normal speeds were 80-90kmph. Bike was happily cruising at those speeds unstrained, even though i had a pillion. Reached Bhopal at 10:15 am (approx. 3 Hrs). Started from Bhopal at 4:30 pm evening and as the sun was going down, i was worrying a bit. Becuz i donot travel at night by bike. so, gunned the throttle to fullest, but the bike was REFUSING TO GO BEYOND 8K RPM. I donot know WHY?. Speed's were between 95-100kmph with continuously riding with 1 break of 15mins, we reached Indore back by 7:00 pm.(2.5 hrs for 200kms) Thanks to 100kmph speed. We clicked a few photos and one video.
          Mileage extracted = 36-37kmpl.
But I am worried abotu the 8K RPM limit thing. Why my bike is not going above 8K RPM(only in 5th gear). In other gears it is revving till 10-11K.
I think i am running alot RICH on AFR.

The Digital Fuel Indicator on P180 is 'very' unreliable... and I have had the experience of the tank getting complete dry while still on the 'Main' and not even on 'Reserve'. I guess I will have to find another way to calculate the exact milage...
empty tank to empty tank method is more precise than tank full method.
you shouldn't have tweak AFR by yourself. It takes a lot of practice and and a lot knowledge. I would have gone to SC instead.
It's very popular myth that average increases if you switch to lean

            • Hi guys,
              Back to annoy you!
              1. Will you recommend air foot pump available at ebay/rediff? Like
eBay India: Foot Air Pump with Pressure meter (item 110535396783 end time 18-Jun-2010 22:56:39 IST)

              and last one
eBay India: Foot Pump For Your Car Motor Cycle for All Automotive (item 220611364269 end time 01-Jun-2010 14:05:00 IST)
              or any other electronic one?

              2. Where to get the engine mud guard fitted in Delhi? East Delhi preferably? Engine looked awful in today's rain ! And what should be the ideal price?

              3. Which security system should be installed on it, of course other than central lock, in order to ensure maximum security to extremely vulnerable Pulsars? I am always mis-dream of it becoming dust cloud in few moments, which leave me pretty pissed off for the rest of day

              Thanks in Advance.

It might also be due to the hot summer sun. All engines loses efficiency when it becomes hot beyond a point.

Its for this very reason expensive bikes are fitted with a temperature guage.

No i feel its much better to buy from a shop in your city.you are in delhi , so you can go to karol bagh whenever you are free and can get yourself one after thoroughly checking the instrument and ofcourse at a lesser price. prices starts at Rs100 and you can get a decent one for 250 -300 bucks.most important thing is that if there is a manufacturing defect you can always take it back to the shop from where you bought it.

i always prefer a foot pump over an electronic one coz the main purpose of the foot pump for me is during touring, and if you are stranded at aplace where there is no electricity then what will you do? i know some electronic air compressors are battery driven but still foot pump is a better option. its relatively small, cheaper, and it takes only a few minutes to fully inflate a motorcycle tyre without much sweat.

36-37 is a very good millage so there isn't any RICH or LEAN...If bike is not going beyond 100 on 5th gear then try 4th gear. It always works...Drive in 4th gear till you reach 105-110 and then shift to 5th gear.

I tried it on my 150, ride became smooth. It also has other advantages.
