  • Ahh!! what a relief, finally got Motul 5100 (no other options were available). Filled it and to my surprise when I drained the Bajaj oil it was 1025ml or so. I wonder why the glass window was showing engine oil level low even when the oil was sufficiently high (by 25-50ml). Have not driven the bike since then. I have tried every possible thing so that this time the oil has no gap to leak. Covered them all.

@Ghost11: Dusty oil means it was an old leak, try and apply ANABOND ('red' one) to that area and get the engine head bolts tightened, the leak should stop, in worst case, replace that cap.

        • Guys how to find out whether the clutch plate/timing chain is in proper condition?
          MY bike still does 55-4K, 6K-80, 110-8K.
Total no. of kms completed are 11K. Planning to take it to ladakh in August with a pillion.
And what to finalise in next service?
Necessary suggestions w.r.t bike's performance etc required.
          Thanks!

          • ^^If I'm not wrong, worn clutch plates don't change gearing ratios.
They say drop in acceleration and average can be caused by worn plates.

            • I found exactly from where it is leaking,it is from the bottom part of the round plasticky thingy on the head.It happens to be right above the right side spark plug.I forgot to ask one important question, what is the cost of anabond red?

As 'lockhrt999' said there will be loss in acceleration, engine will be doing higher rpm for the same speed. As for now it seems that your clutch plates are alright. For 10,000 Kms service see the manual and replace parts like :
Spark plugs, air filter, clean the carburetor, tappet setting, check the brake fluid of front reservoir and replace if necessary, replace front fork oil and check springs of front fork & replace if necessary, get the rear shocks gas refilled, replace fuel pipes, check the clutch and accelerator cables and replace if necessary, check and replace the brake pads (this will probably be the most important must-do for Ladakh trip), not to say but change the engine oil, clean the chain, check the rear wheel alignment. CHeck the battery, in Ladakh trips you might need to crank for long, so battery must be able to absorb that pressure, donot crank for more than 5 seconds and give battery some time after each crank to recover from drainage of charge. Check the tires for tread and alloys for dents.

Most important after the service check if any overheating of engine, abnormal behavior by the bike is noticed. For more details, check this wonderful guide on preparing your bike for Ladakh ride: http://www.bcmtouring.com/articles/preparing-your-motorcycle-for-ladakh/

Not more than 50 Rs or a little more, I forgot the exact price.

They do if you tell them, atleast in my area they do this things if I tell them to do. If you want to confirm then go at anytime immediately to check what works on the bike are being carried out. I did this 2-3 times and found that they are doing their work quite well.

                        I'm in big confusion.
I need to do most of the stuff mentioned above, but the problem is I don't trust the SC. The biggest problem is servicing waiting period has jumped to two days. I don't mind dropping for two days but I want them to open bike in my presence.

If you don't trust them then simply buy the needed stuff from them and tell the Castrol bike zone guys (as you said earlier, you like their job) to replace them. No problem, otherwise get the most basic things changed from the SC and then for some major works, get them done at CBZ, when you get time.

Good suggestion but would the bill contain his bike's number then? Here they don't allow it unless their mechs fit it.

BTW, anyone has their starter clutch bush changed? I think that's recommended for 10K. My starter makes a constant krr-krr sound when the bike is on. It's like that since the beginning (and no its not the handle or the coneset anything. It is exactly the starter clutch).

                            • Just completed my 10,000 km. Wow amazing feeling the bike is smooth well for the service she is soon due shall be just change the spark plugs, new engine oil, air filter and nothing else just this well as my mechanic says when the bike is not giving any problem then why to touch the original part which has been given to u from the company and good thought hence won't get much done.

Unless your bike is under warranty, whether you take your bike to SC or outside it does'nt makes any difference.

It's rare that one gets starter clutch problem (atleast in our 180's), if it's slipping on starting the bike then you need to change it ASAP, otherwise too get the bushes and springs changed to prevent further damage to starter gear (as you said there is some noise).
