  • Guys a small problem. Had a kiss with an auto-rickshaw few weeks back, which resulted in a few scratches on the right headlamp.Gonna change the headlamp assembly..but got two options...
    1. Replace with stock headlamps and re-fit the HIDs on this one. Cost: Rs.2500 approx.
    2. Remove the front plastic "glass" which has been scratched and transform it into this....copy of the R1 Click image for larger version

ID:	1830957 I know a guy who's an expert in this and he'll make it waterproof. Had been in love with projectors since a long time.Cost: Rs.11,000 approx.
    Got a few questions:
    Will the H3 HIDs,which I'm currently using,work with 3" projectors?
Is the price justified? What is the basic price of 2 Projectors and 4300k HIDs?

The tyre seems to be much better than the stock as well as the dunlop tufgrip.. Was this tyre discussed lately. I remember Pirelli SD, Dunlop tuffgrip, Kings, Stock being discussed extensively sometime back. But I feel this one is better than the stock in resisting punctures and capable for some off roading too.
What are the Pros and Cons of using it? Anybody?

Very high profile tire.. so for tarmac use not recommended.. in the long run such a drastic change in profile will put a load on the engine, chain and sprockets coz of the changes in the mass of tire it now needs to rotate. Hence, i had avoided putting it up even as an option. if off road profile is all that you want then Kings tire is better. Abhimanyu31 can throw a better light on this..

          Cheers,

My primary concern is dusty roads.. some 2-3 mm thick dust on tarmac. I find the stock is slippery and difficult to handle on these roads, though manageable.. I dont know how this will fare. Seems better than the stock.. even pirelli which is detailed by deville does not seem to have a good tread for these roads.. any update considering my requirements is appreciated. Putting kings will take the smoothness in ride completely i think.

My FZ tires are due for replacement so once i return to Mumbai will take my pick and only then can give a feedback. Without substantial usage i cannot comment on the same specific to your requirements. Though i would suggest keep an eye out for Duro brand tires if the tire shops keep them in stock. The grooves looked promising.

I had kept all my reviews limited to the tires matching closest to the tire specifications of the stock so that the engine gets least of the stresses due to change in profile.

              • Dear SHV18, I appreciate your concern regarding the engine stress and others. But I feel my engine is much free now compared to the stock tyre setup, it runs smoother than before. Regarding the size of the tyre, it is already 20mm lesser then the stock, so there is no more extra drag caused by the 140 section stock and for height it is 20 mm higher than the stock, which makes the rear end much farmer, which will definitely helped for fast cornering, though I didn’t attend high speed corner yet as the tyre is still new. I am waiting for the completion of the tyre run-in.
I have just covered approx. 200 km in this tyre and it feel really good compared to the stock, it is any day better than the CEAT you mentioned in your post. The wet grip of CEAT is not good and I have not check the Kings yet.
If you go through the spec sheet of Yamaha Byson (FZ for Indonesia), which also comes with a 120/70 section rear tyre. Attached spec sheet for your reference.

                • Guys help me,

                  Steering issue:
Handle bar became very loose and while riding the bike tends to go in the direction of physical dynamics instead of my steering input. Ex: while turning I tried counter steering but it is not turning instead goes straight. Also while going over a stone the front tyre tries to move away the surface of stone even if I keep the steering straight. Went to mechanic and he told some balls in the steering column could have been gone and he replaced it. Now I tried the bike in corners and it feels good; no wobble but I feel the steering is too loose. If I counter steer the bike is leaning more with less force on handle.

Is it correct behaviour or how to slightly tighten the steering column?

                  thanks in advance

                  • Hey Shv

Today I went for second service and there was a great argument, they asked me why I didn't opt for an engine oil change, I told that my bike rode hardly 1200kms from previous change and I said I will Do it myself and they said that engine warranty will be void. I asked them why? the said that all engine oil changes must be done in SVC only. I asked them if the engine warranty only to be void and not others and when the svc guy nodded, I told that I don't need any engine warranty (anyways voiding my warranty very soon by modding the engine). They heard few problems about clutch play adjustment, chain slack adjustment and etc. etc. and when I just showed the things to be checked in service manual and the guys was like (he was just meaning water wash)

Poured Yamaha 4T and changed the filter cost around 350 rupees and I'm not enjoying the smoothness of motul. Gears aren't smooth as it was with Motul. I'm getting neutral from 1st for no reason.

Thinking if I should stop visiting SVC again. I'm thinking to switch back to Motul if it doesn't get smooth. It's all waste of resource and peace of mind.

Next time tell them to give it in writing that it will void the warranty and secondly show the warranty manual and ask them where has it been mentioned that you will have to buy the oil from the SVC only and only Yamalube and not any other brand? Tell them if they remember last time you had sent a mail to yamaha and will not hesitate to do it again.

There are ways and means of keeping these guys in place.

However, they are legally right that 1200 kms or not if you don't do the service as per the manual specifications then Officially the SVC has the right to refuse the warranty. I am not sure whether you trust your local mechanic and his work. I have so far had a very good experience with the SVC and don't mind paying premium for the labour rate and SVC rates as the work they have done so far is top notch. I would leave that decision to you.

                      Cheers,

                        Hi,
If i remember correctly CEAT i had mentioned that it was specifically for off-roading and not for normal tarmac. There is a reason why the manufacturer has specifically selected the particular profile of the tire in India. I would suggest that you do post about your ownership experience about the tires and your ride as you clock miles..

If i am correct the rear suspension now feels even firmer as the ride height has changed and the rebound and dampening properties have changed. You can do the same by adjusting the settings of the rear adjustable suspension with the stock tire as well. Not good for touring and long distance riding though.. the pot holes and road undulations then become more prominent.. a personal preference ofcourse..

i am no super expert here so would love to listen to your side of experience with the same. just putting forward the points based on the feedback i have received from the FZ owners and my interaction with the SVC guys.

                        Cheers,

If that is the case, gee: I don't want to see how it must look inside this poor engine of yours! There will be a thick depot of carbon on the valves, the piston, and in the exhaust, and your engine be completely choked and unable to breathe! You may also have lost a lot of compression by the piston rings being full of carbon/ oil gum, and going to a more fluid oil like fully synthetic will make you loose even more compression.

Would be an extreme case of over-pampering your engine....I hope I did misread your post, then!

This engine is designed to "be happy" at it's maximum torque, which is at 6,000rpm.

Would not that be the case, and would your engine be in such a condition as described here above, the only thing you can do to save it's life is REVV UP!!! Vraoum...vraoum.... VRAOOOOOOOOO!!!
Redline it, just make it spit, vomit all this carbon, get healthy again....but it might already be too late!
                            Hope I am wrong!
Not like i go below 4k or 5k but yes i go in 6k or 7k less because mostly city riding. Also it is not like that bike is breathing out but it something that asking for more jerk its like "Baby!!! Give me one more jerk and i will ride you smooth..."...

So let start with first thing...

                            1. How to check carburetor in FZ (You can laugh later).
                            2. What is desired chain slackness in FZ and can we adjust chain slackness ourselves (I didn't find any DIY for this in forum)..
                            3. Can i clean my chain using kerosene and also it is necessary to lube chain immediately like can i do it after 2 3 days?
                            4. Any good chain lube for FZ?

Appreciate any help or advice from you guys!!!

I dont exactly remember your query. I think if its persisting why not get it checked at the SVC or any other good place.
I will suggest you better check the choke lever and and obstruction near air filter element(under the seat).
