  • Hello Everybody,

I have recently joined this forum so pardon me if I am posting this in wrong section. I have bought a second hand Yamaha FZ16 and stay around Thane. I wanted your opinion on good service center in or around Thane or Vashi to get my bike serviced. I have bought this bike recently and have just changed the Engine Oil as a precaution till the time I get it serviced, as I wanted to get it serviced at a good service center. Your suggestion will be really helpful

    Thanks

Nearest one in thane is AIMS yamaha showroom. But, kamala yamaha is the recommended one. You can get addresses and contacts from yamaha website.

Spend 100 bucks on fuel, go to Kamla Yamaha at sewree.

        Godown no 27,
        Next to Hyundai Work shop,
        Near Ashoka Gardens,
        T J Road, Sewree (W)
        Mumbai 400015

Don't even think about visiting any other workshop in Mumbai!! Make sure you reach by 10:00 a.m. sharp.. if you are friendly with the people.. the whole bike will be serviced in 1 hr flat!! Request them in advance to organise Motul oil mineral grade for you as it is a better bet than Yamalube. Don't forget chai paani for the boy who has worked on your bike!! important pr exercise works wonders the next time you visit them..

@All: I just got a call from my friend who is taking care of my FZ-X in my absence that she is returning a healthy 46 kmpl at speeds of 60-65 kmph which i guess is around 4500 rpm. I personally don't care about FE except looking at it as a benchmark for the health of my engine based on my riding style. So she is still going strong and has hit 24,000 kms now and FE is reflecting a good stoich AFR mixture.

So eagerly awaiting for the heart transplant. Stay tuned at FZ 18 thread for more info on the same once, i return to Mumbai.

        Cheers,

              Hi,

Since, you've bought a 2nd hand bike, i would suggest that you should get the whole bike checked. Kamla Yamaha is bit expensive in terms of paid services (Read INR 300 Service Charges + 300 labour charges if major work is done) but they are best in the business and don't fleece their customers.

How many kms in the ODO when you bought it? If the ODO reading is close to 20k kms then get a preventive maintenance or complete overhaul done:

              1) Check the Front shocks for any leaks and replace the fork rubber seal and oil if necessary.
              2) Accelerator and clutch cable: replace/adjust if necessary.
              3) Clutch Plates: Check the clutch play and look for any slippage; replace if necessary.
              4) Condition of the chain and sprockets: Replace/ adjust if necessary.
              5) Brake pads and braking system check and overhaul. Replace the pads if necessary.
              6) Battery electrolyte top up and charge output test. That will give you an idea about the condition of the bike and how it was maintained by the previous owner. They have a charging and voltage test meter station dedicated for that.
              7) Rear Shock and the swing arm to be checked and pins replaced if necessary.
              8) Cush pads to be checked and replaced if they have become hard.
              9) Condition of the tire both front and rear. Since, you are based near the coastal region; the harsh weather tends to wear off tires pretty fast.
              10) Just for the heck of it, a compression test of the cylinder and piston done. (It is included in the labour charges cost mentioned above).
              11) Buy a can of WD 40 and spray it over parts which are showing signs of rusting.
              12) Buy a can of Diamond or if budget permits Motul chain lubricant. Lube the chain every 500-1000 kms, it will extend the life of the chain greatly.

The above mentioned Overhaul will take whole day and may be a bit heavy on your pocket but will give you a trouble free ownership for atleast 20,000+ kms. Make sure you get everything run through the SVC head mechanic and do mention that you are from xbhp. That would be my advise to you

              Cheers,

The bike is year old and has done close to 10,000 Km on ODO.
Thanks for your detailed advice. Will really help.

Thanks for your reply man. I have heard negative feedback for AIMS Service center and hence was looking for an alternate.

                  • Guys please answer my queries below. Recently I completely overhauled (New cylinder, piston, valves) my FZ-S due to piston rings gone kaput. I'm running in the new block and completed 900 km as of now.

                    1. "Phat Phat" sound just after starting the engine in morning. After few mins it will die out. Is there some loose connections in AIS pipes?
                    2. "Ting Ting" sound from engine. Just after overhaul it came only for few min after engine start up. But now after 900 kms, the sound is prominent after start up and while riding I can hear it. After overhaul mechanic told valve tappets need to adjusted after few kms of runin. I will do it by this weekend. Is the sound due to tappets?
                    3. "Thud" sound while engaging 1st gear. Is it normal?

                    Thanks in advance

                    • Hi guys,

As I said in one of my earlier posts, I am not too happy with the stock headlights. Its definitely manageable but I am still looking for headlights that'll give me better vision in the night. My bike is just two weeks old and I am gonna raise the topic with the SVC guys when I go for my first service. Regardless, I am still searching for better options (no HIDs... at least right now) and came across the LED Position Light in Yamaha's accessory list that is on their website.

Has anybody installed this accessory? Its INR 500 and the brochure promises that they are 'three times more powerful.' If any one has these on their bike, could you tell me what you think about them? Are they powerful enough? Any problems/niggles after installing them?

Speaking of accessories, the LED side markers caught my eye too. But I am confused as to how the white illuminated LED Yamaha logo will look on a black bike. :S Any thoughts guys?

                      Thanks!

Dropped front 1 inch, idea was to make the riding position more sporty. now after lowering the bike handles better, front turns in faster = even better cornering.

With a Smaller Front wheel than the rear, the bike's handling will always improve, but it's the shelving off the speed when needed that takes a hit..

Yamaha accessories are costly deal. You could get brighter than that LED park lights for under 150 bucks. if you don't wanna invest too much on headlamps, just go for a 60/55W H4 bulb, will cost 85 only.

I tried using the 55 watt bulb in my fz but I didn't find it glowing its full intensity. Are you guys using 55watt bulb in your bikes satisfied with the light output? I installed the 55 watt bulb and then compared it with the output of the Pulsar 200 NS which also has the same 55 watt bulb, and found that the output was not equal compared to the NS.
                                Any suggestions or ideas?
