You can get DOT4 fluid at the Yamaha SVC. If you aren't able to source it, then go for DOT3.

                  Cheers!!

                  • Hey guys,

I am a proud owner of a new FZ16. First of all, I am loving it. The handling and control is beautiful and I hope to spend a lot of time with the bike.

I am facing a problem in my bike. When I bought it(about 1 month ago), it was totally fine. Eventually I noticed a squeaking sound coming from the engine. It would only come after I had taken the bike above 60km/h and then slowed down. The sound is audible between the speeds of 20 to 35 km/h. Holding the clutch or shutting down the engine and coasting doesn't stop the squeaking. The frequency of the sqeaking increases with the speed.

I took it to my first service then, at around 350 km on the odo. The SVC cleared the bike. 3 days later I checked the oil, which was completely black and burnt. I couldn't understand how this could have happened. He said that maybe I use the clutch too much but that's not so. I also didn't push the bike to its limits minding the run in period. He couldn't accept the fact that he hadn't checked the oil in the service. Anyways, I got the oil changed hoping for the best. Its been about 1 week since then and the bike is still squeaking. It is even more prominent if I ride with a pillion.

The SVC rode the bike around the block but didn't take it beyond 40km/h, so he couldn't hear it. He dismissed the problem. I am very worried as I am scared about permanent damage to the engine. This bike is very precious to me and I hope to ride it for a long time.

I looked around xbhp but no one seems to have a solution. Please guys, I hope you help me out.
And if any kol riders can suggest a better place for FZ repairs, it would be great too.

I really doubt that they have changed the oil. That's one of the main reasons I always change oil outside so that I can see it by myself.
By the way always check oil color & level as soon as after service.
Well for now keep pestering the SVC guys and make sure they rectify this issue.
Dont they call you after service is done asking for feedback?
Go & meet the service head if the mechanics are not solving your issue.
Also if you have an official mail id of the Yamaha heads like area manager/customer care, inform the same about this.
If none of this works give them a notification that you will take this to consumer court.

Thanks for the reply. I got the oil changed in front of me at the SVC.
And they don't call up here. Even I was thinking of going to the service head.
Where can I find the emails of the area manager?

                        Thanks again

Based on what you have described it looks like the squeaking is coming from the chain/chain sprocket.
Since you say that the sound is audible even without the engine running while coasting.

Check for chain slack. If there is none then the chain maybe touching some part of the bike.
If even then you dont find it then you have to keep pestering the SVC till they fix it.

                          Cheers!!

It happened on my bike too..it comes from the place where the tyre is bolted to the forks..lubrication is necessary at the place where the wheel is rotating..not a big issue. But keep it well-greased.

                              Exactly!
Initially, even I had this squeaking sound coming from the front wheel/fork area. A simple lubrication solved the problem.
