Thanks guys for all your concern...really this place is a brotherhood for the bikers...

Another quick question...can u suggest any online shop to buy tank pad for FZS bike. SVC has only tank pads for R15
Good news from your end, bro!! Satisfied!

You can get tankpads for FZ in any local graphics/stickers/decals shop. You'll find more options and they are really cheaper (read bargain).

Guys, what are the general indications for changing the chain? Any specific points to be looked into? Also, my ride is 800kms away from nearing 12k. The AF looks clean, but with bent fins, time to change it?

      Cheerz!!
The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!

Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

Check the color. If it is rusty and hanging loose beyond your comprehension, making sounds like it will fall off any moment no pull & overall drop in performance; then my friend I have bad news for you But IMO, it will run for a few more kms than 12K. Ask a roadside or your regular mechanic for an opinion, you know why!!

AF will need a change if you haven't changed it till date but if it looks clean maybe it'll munch a few more kms. I changed mine in ~25K. So....

in addition the what @chasoaddict said, the sprockets are more easy to check.. the teeth become more sharp at the edges and more circular in shape at the top, ie they loose their holding capacity.. that's what was told me by the mech..
change the chain set and the AF at 12-13K.. i changed both at that time..

          Ride safe and have fun.

Chain slackness is a perfect indicator. Is your chain more slack than indicated in the manual? If so can you reduce it by moving your axle back? If there is no more room for moving the axle back and the chain has a lot of slackness then it indicates that the chain is too worn. Time to change it. And better replace the entire chain and sprocket set. Else a partially worn sprocket will wear out the new chain faster and vice versa.
Another indication of a worn chain is a jerk felt when you release the clutch.

About your air filter, unless you are riding in exceptionally dust free conditions for then past 12k kms then better change it.

              Hi Guys,
Due to the strike @ MRF, the stock MRF tire is no longer available in Bangalore.
Can anybody in Bangalore tell me where I can get Pirelli / Dunlop? Let's Gear Up don't have Pirelli 140.

Thanks. Rust does creep up in rains. Else, proper maintenance is done of the chain. Regarding AF, it does look clean with bo dust. The only thing is, fins are not straight anymore. Will check after some kms.

The slackness has increased. Incase i can tighten it to proper slackness will use it or will change the whole set once rains are over.

                  Hi All,

Not sure if am posting in a correct forum....

But, am really in need of suggestions from you guys in getting my FZ-S to normal condition...

Its now crawling like never before and am not able to figure out whats wrong with it...

The problem is that, it drops the speed intermittently when riding up a fly-over or even on a flat road. So i got it checked last time from a local service centre and was suggested to change the air filter as my bike crossed 20k Kms.
Then i started surfing internet for best suite of Air Filters for my FZ.. and have gone through various post/blogs. Now am really confused about the upgetting part after changing the stock air filter.

Can someone please advice on what needs to be done here.... It would be helpful if you can atleast suggest a good mechanic to fix this. I live in Hyderabad....

This would be the best.. Get the whole set changed after rains.. Monsoon is nearly over and the current set won't giveup so easily..
the whole set costs around 1400rs i think..

                      1) Go for stock OEM Genuine Yamaha air filter: Costs around 250 - 280 INR

                      2) Replace the spark plug with the stock NGK one: Costs around 105 - 110 INR

                      3) If the bike has not been serviced then the engine oil : Motul 3000V 4T 20W 40 and oil Filter for Rs. 40/- should be replaced

                      4) Chain should be cleaned and lubed and the tension checked. If the chain is at the last adjustment then the chain and sprockets should be replaced. Costs around 1300 INR

                      5) Since, you have hit 20k, there is a possibility that the carburettor diaphragm or the carb slide might have gone bad. A thorough inspection and cleaning up of carburettor using carb cleaning spray is recommended. If the rubber diaphragm has gone bust it will cost around 500 bucks and the carb slide for around 1500 bucks INR.

                      6) If you have the budget then please do a little bit of back ground research and look for preventive maintenance on this thread posted many eons ago. If you do a preventive maintenance then your bike will not give you any trouble for the next 25 - 30 k kms besides the consumables. The rear swing arm bush should be checked, greased and if needed should be replaced.

                      7) The fuel tank should be removed and cleaned. AIS system should be cleaned. All the battery terminals should be cleaned and greased and the electrical switches should be sprayed with WD 40.

                      8) Both front and rear tire bearings should be checked, cleaned and greased. The front and rear brake pads should be checked, cleaned and replaced if found worn out beyond the wear indicator mark.

If you do a thorough servicing then this may take one whole day or two days based on how efficient, well trained the service personnels are at your place and if whether they have the correct set of tools to do the job in hand. It is expensive but then it will ensure that the bike is back to its former glory.

                      Hope this helps...

                      Cheers,

Try cleaning the carb, the fuel line, the filter and yes a spark plug change should make it fine.
If the afr mixture is not good then also this may happen.

I got the bike serviced last week only.. And i specifically told them to make the tuning (afr) correct.. But they don't even touched a thing even after repeatedly telling to do so.. Let alone carb cleaning n all..
will replace the spark plug in a few days and if the problem stays or not..

                              Hello all,
Been a really long time since I posted on this thread.

Wanted to highlight a couple of DIY videos uploaded in youtube by a very nice person Mr. Richard Tait (from across the Pacific )

This is the first one where he changes the engine oil and the oil filter

                              FZ16 Oil Change - YouTube

This one is for cleaning and accessing the FZ's air filter. I had requested him to do this as I had found it very difficult to do this task.
FZ16 Air Filter Change - YouTube

Going through these videos should give you guys good confidence of doing the same. Heck, I changed the oil and the oil filter using the first vid and I'm a complete noob.

NOW gonna get the K&N filter and put that baby in my bike
                              Everyone falls down, doesn't matter...
But its how fast you get up, that matters.....

On a close inspection, I found out that my rear wheel rim is having a slight bent. It is not causing any air pressure loss or handling issues. Should I leave it as it is or should I do something to repair it?
