• Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S

hi guys, very strange problem is troubling me with my FZ from 2 days.
after pressing start button, bike start's for 5 to 8 seconds, then engine goes off
sometimes it requires me to press start button 3 to 4 times to start. even in traffic when i switch off bike, and then again bike refuses to start , it takes 4 to 5 attempts to get my bike start.

hey guys what will be problem, local mechanic told engine is cold that's why, but can engine be cold after 50km of ride?

need some inputs guys.

thank you.............!

What is your idling rpm at hot and cold engine? Engine stalling when hot indicates a rich mixture or may be due to stuck choke which is making the mixture rich
Off the BOTTLE & On the THROTTLE

i will notify the respective rpm tomorrow as i will take bike for work, can what you explain what is struck choke, i recently used choke to start bike may be 10 days ago.
engine also goes off when i try to pick up the bike in 1st gear, without jerk, that means engines goes off without clutch slippping

photos are attached below, sorry for low quality of photos, can't help as my htc got broke. give your valuable thoughts.
(after cleaning spark plug at local mechanic, i have rode fz for 210KM) photos after 210KM

Cold Idling (when starting with 2 to 3 cranks in morning)
800rpm to 1000rpm, sometimes reaches 500rpm also

Hot Idling (after running for 12 to 15 KM)
1000rpm to 1500rpm

what you think Jith_in Sir....?

just little one more thing
=> engine also goes off when i try to pick up the bike in 1st gear, without jerk, that means engines goes off without clutch slipping, started happening 2 to 3 days ago. its very annoying in traffic. please help.

The focus int he pics should have been kept on the plug. Even from these, the color looks fine to me.

Idling is low, this is causing the bike to shut off. In my bike, the cold idling is around 1200 and hot at 1500 and it never gives me such problem.
Also, keep the bike idle for a minute or so before riding. It's a good practice to follow with every bike.

Ride safe and have fun.

I replied for this issue only. Increase the idling and see if the problem still exists.
When idling is low, the engine shuts off when we give accelerator (I don't know why this happens, but I have also experienced this).

Ride safe and have fun.

thanks for your fast response.

i have been using this fz for month now, but before this kid of problem is not there, just started 3 days ago.

also.

when i put the FZ in 2nd gear, and then i rev the FZ about 4.5k to 5k RPM, and then let off the accelerator (means leaves of the accelerator) then some kind of "pat"-"pat" sound is coming from exhaust, i don't what its called Misfire or Backfire OR its just normal FZ exhaust note OR i m running on slightly lean mixture.

please guide me.

I don't know what can cause such problem.

Maybe other members might know more about this issue. psr sir and Divya Sharan any help in this matter?

Plug looks ok afr mixture is good. Rise the cold idling rpm to 1k and see. Hot rpm is fluctuating badly. I suspect a vacuum leak which is causing hot rpm to vary this much. For that popping sound from exhaust i think it's time to decarbonise the engine. How much kms on odo?

Vacuum leak where? and which part?

what is decarbonise the engine means?

ODO 25000KM (actually some about 24560KM something) FZ oct 2009 model, almost 6 years old

The inner parts of the engine get covered in dark carbon thing which hamper performance.

There won't be need for decarbonization as 25k is way too less.
