  • Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S

After 7000 odd KMs on the motul 5100 15w50 (2 sets), switched to shell AX7 10w40. This one feels so much better. Been 1000km and the smoothness hasn't dropped a bit, unlike the motul which was quite meh after 500-600 km.

      • Prefered modifications on fz16

        Hi mates,

I am having fz16 red 2009 model, clocked 70+k km.
It is still going very smooth.. but iam in search for making fz16 more powerful.

I saw one video in youtube about a fz16 which is now 200cc.. its not from india.

Is there any kit like that available in India also? Is this durable?
Also what about rear discs? And what about front shocks from duke?

Is these mods are possible? Anybody tried ? How reliable are these?

        Thankz

Hi! My fzs rear tyre needs replacement (20000kms). I'm thinking of zapper q 130/70 (stock in cbr 150) and zapper q 140/70 but i read some where in this thread that zapper q 140/70 is tubed tyre, while zapper q 130/70 is tubeless one. Plz help me i live in Delhi and suggest me a good shop.

Maybe time to change engine oil. Also change air filter. A blocked air filter can cause the engine to heat up.
Lean air-fuel ratio can also cause excessive engine heat.

            Stay stock and stay happy.
There are many threads in the General biking Discussion section regarding this. Go through them and decide for yourself.
My suggestion, want more power, get a more powerful bike.

Get Revz-M, it is on the new FZ-fi. It's really good and much better than the stock tyre of fz.

            Ride safe and have fun.

Shell is always best than the overpriced motul oils but many of the people still argues that the motul is the best oil brand in the whole universe which I don't agree at all.

                I'd have to disagree.
Since I fill up at a Shell station always, I decided to use Shell Advance Ultra 4T to replace my Motul 7100 which already was 3000km and 4.5 months old.
I was pleased by the Shell's transparent colour which I felt would help in checking the oil quality better. But within 500kms the oil had completely lost the feel and after about 1k kms the gears started sticking. Ended up changing the oil after just 1380kms and 1 month 8 days. And I was in for a shock when the oil was drained. Not only did the completely colourless oil turn totally black, it had also lost its "oilyness" which you can feel by rubbing the oil between your fingers. My mechanic was surprised when I told him this is Shell oil.

Now Shell AX7 might be different as its semi-synth and I haven't tried it. But I'd say a strict no for Advance Ultra 4T based on my experience.

I wrote a post on this thread sometime back with a pic and how the oil felt. Here is the link if you want to check it out.

                Cheers!

I have been using Shell advance AX7 & I have nothing to say against it. The bike seems to love it more than the Yamalube which I used earlier. It's been 2.3k since last oil change & the bike is due for service and I would like to say that the oil hasn't turned black. It has turned slightly darker which I feel is common & the bike is still going on smooth & the gear shifts are fine.
I'd say, Shell Advance AX7 is one of the best oils you can get for your FZ or Fazer.

According to my experience with motul oils (5100,7100 & 300v) which was used in my 220 i had faced many bad things.
For the first 500 kms the oil used to perform very well but after that its a different story. Engine becomes sluggish & it doesnt want to revv happly with harsh sounds and worst vibrations.

My P220 strictly runs Motul 7100 as its the only reasonable buy I can get within the recommended 20W50 range, I've used the same oil on my ZMA and it was genuinely crap, wanted to change it within the first 100kms itself, but had to stick with it as I was short on cash. But on the P220 it does wonders! And I mean it. On long runs it lasted 2k kms last time, this time around I am expecting it to stick to atleast 2.5k kms as the motor has put some mileage on it.

Hence, experiment and once you find your match settle with it. Cause its not unlikely that two different users of the same bike and oil might give extremely contrasting reviews, as oil life depends on use.

Just to add, last time we put in the ELF Moto4 Gold and my friend(Owner of the Fazer 2010) asked me the details of the oil as he really enjoyed the performance and was interested in repeating it.

Doesn't it mean the Oil collected/cleaned all the dirt, carbon that was settled in the engine?

Maybe it did. But I had to change it because I didn't feel the oil was doing anything anymore. Engine felt rough especially under hot riding conditions and gears felt sticky. Something I don't feel too much with motul 7100.

Air is leaking from the interface of the front tyre and rim for my bike. The length of the leak is approx. 50% of the circumference. This got me thinking if its actually a problem of the rim or as the tyre is old there is loss in the effectiveness of sealing on the edges.

The tyre is stock and 37500km, 5.5years old.

                            Please advise.

Old tyres start becoming kind of porus, so there will be leakage on the contact patch area of the tyre too, but it doesn't pop up when you search for punctures, then leakeage also comes along the side walls as the seal between the tyre and rim weakens overtime, in your case its 5 years.

I think its time for a new tyre buddy.
