  • Re: Rim bend in Yamaha FZ16

Thanks man! I have had it checked. Apparently there is no air leak along side the rims but on the flat surface, there is a minute leak. Looks like a manufacturing defect. I will have it examined by the service engineer at Yamaha and hope that they replace it.

    • Please Suggest Yamaha FZ 16 Rear Tyre !!

      Hi Guys,

I have Yamaha FZ16 (Model 2009) My rear tyre(Stock MRF revz) is completely damaged. I am still riding on it but soon monsoon season will be coming and i want to replace it ASAP.

Considering I will be going to LEH-LADAKH in june on my bike what will be the best solution please suggest among below options.

      1) MRF revz (Stock Tyre) 140/60-17:
Review Says: Can be good if the road conditions are good on which i travel daily. Its a soft compound Tyre and get punctured very frequently .

      2) Michelin -Pilot Sporty- 140/70 -17
Review Says: Not many people tested it yet but can be good choice.

      3) Dunlop Tuff Grip 140/7017
Review Says: Many people tested it ,less punctures on it but reduces the Milage and not good at wet surface.

Now the situation is that i went through many blogs and reviews on rear tyre for FZ16.

I went to ask My Service Centre Mechanic he told me to stick to Stock(MRF revz) tyres otherwise your chain sprocket and clutch plates will damage frequently.

When i went to ask Tyre Dealer he told me nobody goes with Stock(MRF revz) tyres as it has Punctures issues.

      Now i am confuse !!

I dont want to compromise with Performance but don't want to have punctures and frequent expenses on Chain sprocket and clutch plates also.

Please suggest the best option guys.

      Thanks
      Regards

Guys my bike is reaching the 40K mark , I feel the bike still going great in pickup and mileage (30-36) but one thing Its lost is the TOPEND. I was able to get to attain till 116 in good stretch sometimes even 120s . But now days the bike is hard to go behind 100kmph max was 107 or 109, is this natural for our rides as they get old. What can be done to bring it back to good condition. Below are few details of the ride.

        38k on odo

        Parts Changed till date;
        Chain sprocket set - once
        Sparkplug-once
        Air filter every 10000Kms
        Rear tyre once
        Front Disc Brake assembly once
        Brake pads - when needed

If you want to stick with stock one then the MRF Revs has come in a new version called MRF Revs M, which is better and less puncture prone. Has a more rounded profile. Comes pre fitted for the new fz and also the gixxer

Many people are happy with Dunlop tuff grip and have used it for their ladakh trips

Personally using Ceat dhoom (Xoom) xl. Haven't faced any problem at all. Great grip on wet roads as well.

Do let us know if you have any further queries.

The newer MRF Revz-M is much better than earlier versions and is much more rounder and slightly hard compound. I am also using it for many months now and bike feels much better with this one.
              Go for it.

So your bike used to do 120s! Man.. Mine always did 107-110km/h and only on slight downward road that it did above that. So i don't think there's anything wrong.
And i have also got mileage of 31-35 km/l [emoji14]
Mine is 2011 model with 309xx kms.

                  Hi Guys,

I recently fitted my Fz-S 2009 model with an FFE from raceconcepts. But, observed that there is air leakage from the engine, where the mouth of the pipe is connected.
The yamaha service center guy is telling it is a defect in the new pipe. I'm trying to get in touch with Joel and team for a replacement, no response from them till now on mail/call.
After fitting the new FFE, I've noticed the pickup of the bike has reduced considerably maybe due to the air leakage. Can somebody tell me any other effects it can have on the bike, any engine issues etc?

Was teh gasket at the header area replaced ? Try doing that first, maybe the gasket is not working properly and the exhaust might be mounted wrongly.
And meanwhile, keep calling them at Race Concepts. Don't let them off the hook easy.

Race concept has got reputation for not giving any responce after they sell their product.

There was very heavy loss of pickup when there was no catcon (small box like connected on your silencer ) but had improved top end so i think it is the nature of ffe.

What i belive is ffe improve top end and decreases initial pickup.

A free flow exhaust takes away the oomph and gives you more power instead, hence why you dont hear "I gained xxNM after upgrading to a FFE". Thats how it is designed to perform i.e in the top end. For skinny *****es its fine but for people with some meat like myself at 130ish it is a pain to ride, especially if the motor is a low displacement one.

The header gasket and the seal ring are that of the stock exhaust. The raceconcepts FFE is bigger than the stock one. The service center guy examined the seal ring and found it to be in good condition. My main concern is whether this leakage at the engine side would cause any excess pressure on the engine and cause some irreparable damage.

Yes I agree I've trying to get in touch with them over mails and calls, but to no avail. Due to this air leakage, I'm skeptical about revving my bike and rides in the speed limit of 50-55 now.
Not sure whether is was a bad decision to add a raceconcepts FFE. Hope I don't end up damaging my bike's engine.

Well, that's the first wrong thing done, get the seals and gaskets changed and refit it again.

Check the chain slackness, clean & lube it, maintain proper air pressure in the tyres, idle RPM should be 1200-1500 once engine is at its operating temperature, change the clutch plates if required.
