49.71 km/ltr is not that much... two days before had done my third service and decided to check my mileage...

first time i used xtra premium petrol and ride under 5k RPM mark(almost 50-60km/hr) range... surprisingly i got a mileage of 55.4km/ltr... i didn't believe it... so decided for a second chance...

second time i used ordinary/normal petrol... i got 51.3km/ltr... and the speed limit is the same as above(under 5k RPM)... what the hell any probs for the bike???

Third chance used normal petrol and most of the time ride the bike above 6k RPM i.e above 75-80 km/hr... very very surprisingly got a mileage of 31.2 km/ltr...

MORAL: i found this machine produces a VERY BIG varying mileage... 100% true... (don't mind nobody agrees it)

            don't know why this difference???

            • 900kms bike ride to Garo Hills

              hay Guys!
Just wanted to share about my 900kms biking on my monster FZ with my buddy Dragon on Pulsar180. Gonna take up some time to put up in XBHP travel logue, but in the mean time just wanted to share a brief experience with my FZ family first about this trip.

              Total Distance travelled: 903 kms.

Longest continuous ride: 350kms which took us 11hours (from 2pm to 1am), inclusive of halts for tea, food, pee and cigarettes.....

Days travelled: 3.5 days, 3 nights. Total time on ride 40hours (11+9+9+11) hours

Terrain: Offroad and Onroad and without roads as well..... About 600kms of the distance was zig zag roads with deadly curves, muddy, sandy, windy, wattery, and not to forget the heavy rain on the way, etc etc. and harldy 300kms on straight stretch and good roads.

Maximum Speed: 103kmph on Guwahati highway.

Total bikes: 2 Nos. (FZ and pulsar180)

              Total Person: 2 (24yrs and 40yrs)

Total packets of cigarrettes: 10 packets!

Total fuel consumed: 22 litres @ Rs.44 per litre average.

Average Mileage: 41km per litre. on offroad as well as on good road.

Problem occured: Break light not functioning, number plate fell off (since earlier broken).

Well the handling of FZ was fantastic,
break response was very good except in sandy and muddy road which is exceptional,
headlights was well suited in curve roads except in long stretch as you can't see much farther even in high beamer (perhaps it could be due to improper fixation of my headlamp screws etc).
Stablility is good, the curves can easily be handled even at night and much better when using your riding posture.
No body pain except for very minor back ache due to the first continuous 11hours and 350kms ride..
No engine problem, throttle response was fantastic, no compression problem (not even once)

Here are some of the pictures taken on the way...though we missed many due to time constrain....

Now it reads about 4000kms and yet it still have that compression (blast from the exhaust pipe)...it really annoys me...need to get it checked in YMIS... Anyone else facing this problem of compression?
                  Hi,

I got my FZ back in Dec 2008, and have been facing the same problem when downshifting from 2nd gear to 1st gear. I usually end up at neutral, and this leads to a lot of embarrasing stops at crowded crossings.

My bike also gives frequent compression blasts (sounds like the engine backfiring). Is this normal in 4-stroke bikes? My previous bike was the Yamaha Rx-100 so I'm not to sure what the deal is.

Backfiring is common for all FZ's don't bother about that...
1st to 2nd gear problem... check this out in service centers... i had a problem like that when shifting from 2nd to 1st makes some "DONG" sound... solved the probs after servicing...

                    • @Binoy & asgardjunkie

@Binoy: Thanks buddy, was planning to put up in travel thread soon, in details. Thats just a brief intro about the trip on FZ.

@asgardjunkie: Well now the compression has reduced a lot....my total kms travelled is now 5756 kms. As the service manager had said that the compression will reduced after touching 5000kms..... so no probs regarding it now. As for the gear shifting, it has reduced a bit. Obviously, to shift from 2nd to 1st and vice versa, the gear will pass through Neutral. So just be a bit conscious while shifting and the problem would also reduced. When shifting to neutral you will get a softer feeling in your toes as compared to that of 1st or 2nd. So just feel the difference while shifting and you will automatically know the difference between neutral and 1st or 2nd.

                            • @Binoy, your bike still averaged 46 KMPL and that is no bad at all.

Also, any or most bike in 150cc range if ridden at 90-110 KMPH speeds steadily would give very bad mileage - below 40 and nearing 30 KMPL.
