  • Inverted Telescopic fork for Yamaha FZS? Recommended?

Hi everyone, I'm new to xbhp forum and have recently relocated from Chennai to bangalore. I own a 2011 model Yamaha FZS. I have a strange problem with my bike after I met with a very minor accident. I have consulted Orion motors and they were able to fix half of the problem.

The problem is, no matter how many times I change the Cone and ball set, it still seems to be unaligned and even the forks seems to be unaligned. I just changed my front and back tyres to stock MRF. When I ride my bike, I feel the left part of the handle bar is high and the right part is low and hence when I hold it, I feel I have to stretch my left hand more and right hand less so I get a feel of the handle bar being aligned more to the right.

The showroom guys were able to fix that problem by adjusting the right column of the fork. However, that aint a permanent solution. If i ride on a bumpy road, the alignment changes again.

So i'm looking if anyone here can suggest me whether Fz can be installed with an inverted telescopic fork set along with the correct handlebar to balance the weight of the forks. Just like the KTM forks... And also please let me know who is the best trustworthy person who can do this Mod in Bangalore.

I saw a set of forks at JC road in a shop who is the K&N dealer there. I was not sure whether to buy those and I was not sure who would do the mod perfectly without causing any impact to the bike and its performance.

I came to know that Joel is for engines only and not for any cosmetics Mod.

    Pls help.

    Thanks,
    Sudharshan

I am using starter relay of gladiator on my fz.
Does it cause any harm on the engine?

Hi guys, my FZ is about to reach 1000KM (odo reading: 944 KM)

        Few questions,

        1. Before first service, I noticed that when in gear, I can not start my bike even by pressing the clutch level - unless I move to neutral. The issue was fixes in first service.
However the problem is cropping up again. Is it a recurring one?

        2. As per the manual, engine oil should be changed at 1000 KM. Considering the summer in Kolkata, do you have any particular suggestions for Engine oil and/or anything else?

Saw a discussion about mileage on this 2013 model to be better compared to older models. I am a new rider and getting ~48 KMPL on this (usually ride between 55-60 and 70% of the ride is on highway [well sort of])

Also, as per manual at 12k kms Spark plug & Air filter element needs replacement and steering & swing arm greasing needs to be done.
All this is really required? Please advice.
If the chain links are gone then you will notice slackness at different levels. I hope you followed lubricating and cleaning the chain @ every 500 kms? If not then a dried out chain will eventually end up having bad links.

You need to get the vehicle inspected properly for chassis bend or damage. Also the front fork, triple tree clamp needs to be inspected for alignment and damage issues. If the impact was frontal then massive forces get transferred to these parts.

If the person you are talking about is from blore and sells engine performance parts, make sure to read: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/general-...ouse-fz18.html

before spending anything from your pocket.

ANS: The clutch switch located on the left hand side of your handle bar (the one right below where the clutch cable is attached) is either loose or went bad. Replace it and the problem will be gone.

          2. As per the manual, engine oil should be changed at 1000 KM. Considering the summer in Kolkata, do you have any particular suggestions for Engine oil and/or anything else?
ANS: You seem to have not read the service manual properly! During the first 1000 kms or the run-in period where one rides the vehicle under specific speed/rpm limits to bed in the engin internals, that's when you change the engine oil and the oil filter within the first 1000 kms/30 days (whichever comes earlier). After that the engine oil based on the grade you use needs to be replaced at a specific interval or no. of days(whichever comes earlier). For more information please go through the old posts of this ownership thread, this topic has been extensively discussed and plenty of data is already available for you.

ANS: Make sure to check out the spark plug reading in order to understand the state of tune for your engine. An engine running on lean tuning/ lesser fuel:air ratio going inside the combustion chamber will give tremendous FE but will start running hotter and in the long run will go kaput with fried valve train and piston rings going bad very very quickly! For more information read on Powerhouse FZ18 and see what do you learn about carburettor tuning, venturi velocity, port velocity, upjetting a carburettor etc. Once you get the basics right it will be very easy to determine for you what state of tuning is right for your engine.

Fazer is more heavy and there would be 2 km/l difference between these models. Though I love the fairing but 200 ns cost is so close to fazer that fairing advantage of fazer is negated. Its fzs or 200 ns now.

2km/l! Are u sure?! Coz i own a fazer and many of my friends own fz and we all get approximately same mileage! And that isn't huge weight to affect so badly.. Then pillion with 70kg weight may cause drop of mileage by around 10 15 km/l!

When I was searching for a motorcycle it was between fz and fazer. The differences between these two models was 2km/l mileage. This was mentioned in various websites and xbhp in 2010 and 2011

Search with keywords - difference between fz and fazer mileage. A 2011 page of xbhp will open stating 5 km/l difference. I am mentioning only 2 km/l based on various websites data. Logic says there shouldnt be any difference but logic fails at times. Same engine in szr was giving 50km/l.

Fazer faring weighs 6kgs and chaisis is longer I suppose. So that's where difference come from.
And also fazer costs only like 8-9k lesser than 200Ns and is like 60% less fun than ns. If Bearden fz and ns, choose as per budget, although LET me tell you, ride fazer, fz and ns by taking them to 100 kmhr and you won't even think for a sec which bike to choose.
Don't try to fix me, I'm broke so I don't work

Came to know from showroom guys that the carburator used in initially released fazer model is different from the current one... And so is the difference in mileage...

AFAIK, I have seen the ARAI mileage of both bikes and they are exactly same. and dont know abount old szr but new szr engine is tuned totally different than fz/fazer
PS. I purchased bike in the first week of 2012

If I am not considering power, but the smoothness and low maintenance cost, then anytime I would choose Yamaha over Bajaj The fun in riding Bajaj gets over by the end of first year of new bike

For this my friend, I can say you've never ever ridden a Ns.
Smothness of yahama is still superior than rest of bajaj bikes, but 200Ns Isn't a typical bajaj, .
And even a 100cc honda activa is far more smoother than r15,but we don't buy a scot as our thirst for power never let us take a break. Even after buying ns, 2 weeks later, I was dying for a bigger class (400cc) bike, for more power.
                      Lahu muh lag gaya.
(I've tasted blood now, and thirst increases day by day).

This is kinda OT ,but FYI I'm a proud owner of 200ns from a year and I don't ride below 7krpm,that's why it gives me 30kmpl always. Bit never had a problem even little one (expect disc squeaking noise, which later I discovered in my r15v2(6months old)also ,

Done 4000kms and it still feels awesome to see all under 1L₹ bikes still trying to get some pace, while you're already doing 100kmhr under 9sec
That said fz was the first actual super cool naked bike we got, and the day I rode It (6yrs ago) ,was the day when I was hooked up to biking, fz though design is old, still looks hot on tarmac. And is a pleasure when you want to ride calm.

I too have the same problem after a crash but its only noticable in low speeds. But I havent tried changing the conesets or aligining the forks. Will get them checked in upcoming service. Let me know how you fixed the problem.

Hey thanks.. I keep telling these guys to check for any frame bend but they dont do it. The reason i ask them to check is, the cone set sits in the frame tip and if there is even a small deviation on the frame, the cone's diameter would not properly fit and thats when when i hit the front brake i hear a tuck sound as though we do a knucle crack. I then fought with those guys. Now the issue seems to be fixed almost 90%. Today i replaced FZ handle bar with fazer handle bar. I feel its good now.

                              ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Yeah even i feel the bend only in low speed. But as of now, the issue seems to be 90% fixed. I will check for a frame bend at shivajinagar soon. By the way, the showroom guys had aligned the right column i.e the portion of tube that connects handlebar base and suspension. That had seemed to be twisted. so he re aligned it and today i replaced the handlebar with fazer's handlebar. am seeing a lot of difference in control as the fazer handle bar has higher angle of bend and short as well. i feel good to ride my bike now.

My bike has a frame bend too, though there are no noises. Ride with both hands off the handle and the bike moves to one side. I was quoted 18k to remove everything and work on the chassis. Wasn't too much of a problem and so decided not to do it. Been riding with the bend for over a year and a half now. So used to it that when I ride a normal bike, I feel one arm needs more stretching than the other. Lol.

Anyways, my odo reading has crossed 24000 now. Had replaced the chain-sprocket-set at 20k. Thinking of changing the tyres before the monsoon begins. The front tyre still seems to be in good shape. The treads are still easily visible and the grooves look deep enough. Doesn't look like it has run 24k KMs. Could run another 10-15k by my guess.

The rear tyre has shown some wear. Treads are still visible, but the grooves not as much as the front. Looks like it could run another 5-10k but it has been skidding lately when it hits water. Had a pretty scary experience at a ghat section when the rear skidded at a curve where there was some water on the road coming from a stream. With the rains coming I don't want to risk that happening again.

Anyways, what are my options? Hear nobody is going for the stock MRFs.
Anything apart from the pirellis? How are they in wet conditions? How much do they cost? Where can I get them in bangalore?
