firstly, congrats. welcome to the xbhp FZ family
        secondly, avoid the sms language.

i jam the toolkit wherever some space is left but without blocking the airfilter.

if the bike is not in use, does putting the headlamp or indicator button make any difference ? same case with the engine kill button

not sure about the clutch, but i guess it wears the clutch pads faster

put the toolbox under the seat , there is a provision for it there , on the reverse of the seat , AFAIK , it shoulda been placed there when you got it ...

And for what other purpose than for shifting gears do you use the clutch ??? If it's only gear-shifting , then go ahead and use it all you like ... nothing should happen for a good thousands of kilometres ... with proper maintenance ofcourse !

thirdly there is nothing wrong in leaving it on , it is there for an emergency kill of the engine ... do not use it to turn your bike on an off at stop lights etc ...

Were you talking about the first aid kit or the tool kit ??? yes I too jam the first aid kit in the space where the CDI and other stuff are ... along with the docs ... but the space for the tool kit is provided on the bike guys , c'mon !

the vibration will go away untill first service....
yes you should clean the chain every couple of hundred kms and then lube it.... you can clean the chain by kerosene or chain cleaning sprays or diesel and you can lube it with used engine oil or chain lubes.
use a choke for starting a cold engine and then just crank up the engine
for cleaning use cold water and shampoo you can use any of them many are available in the market after that use a polish (solid wax or liquid)

i hope it clears your doubts...

                  • I recently joined xbhp though I have been closely following this site and have learned a lot about bikes with the discussions of the members. I got a FZ16 about a month back and I feel it reminisces of my old RX100 with the way it pulls. I was really amazed to see it pulling from as low as 20-25 kmph in 5th gear that would usually stall the engine in other bikes I have ridden. My question is, I have a habit of riding in high gears as much as possible unless there is a need to shift down. I am not really a hard revver. So, by any means is there a possibility that I am doing harm to my bike and its components by riding in 4th, 5th gears in such low speeds as 20-40 kmph?? Though I take care not to stall the engine but by the sound it creates it clearly cries for shifting down!

                    • Guys did a 70km roundabout to college and back on the new setup ... ride is a 90% highway and 10% through the city ... for those in the new , went up by a tooth in the front sprocket ... the changes are very very obvious , low end torque takes a major hit ... i revved to 6k RPM and it lumbered to 34kmph .. sure it takes some time , but if we go gradually , it easily touches 50kmph at 3.5k RPM , 60 at 4k RPM and about 75kmph at 5K RPM ... amazing for cruising ... for the city , I guess I need to run a bit more in the city to figure that out ... mileage thus far for a 150bucks worth , it has done 69.8km ... from a total dry start and still got some left to go ...

As long as you are not doing it too much during run - in period and maintaining your bike with regular servicing at a stipulated time/kms mentioned on your manual. I don't think your bike will be effected by such style of riding.

Break - in period/ run -in period is time when you are supposed to go easy on the engine, shift gears between 4k-4.5k max for the 1st 500 kms and also varying speeds and gears in between.

Post 500 kms max 6k between gear shifts.

                            cheers

                              Hi, welcome to XBHP.

1st problem: If you are having too much problem putting it yourself, just take it to the showroom guys.. they will do it for you for free.

2nd Problem: If you use the clutch too often then chances of wearing out in the long is more, the engine also will heat up more.. Instead try to balance and run the bike between 2nd and 3rd gear in traffic and use the clutch only when absolutely necessary.

Regarding the Start Stop Ignition switch. The idea is, if the traffic signal is longer than 30 secs than, use the kill switch to turn your bike off and save fuel.

You bike will not be effected by keeping the ignition kill switch on.

One suggestion: when you are not using your bike, keep the fuel switch at off position.

                              Cheers

                              • 2 things i noted recently on my bike.

while going through a particular area i heard some low whistling kinda noise. (kinda like woowoowoowoowoowoo but sounded like something is rubbing over something). for 3-4 days i heard the same noise from the same place and thought it must be some industry/machine/mill at that place. Today i heard the noise again from another place and this time it felt like it was from my bike. My initial suspect was the helmet. After lots of careful listening and repeated attempts (without the helmet) i concluded that the noise is coming when i let go off the throttle in 4th or 5th gear and the rpm drops to below 4k (only in 3.5-4k range). But then i thought about the initial place where i repeatedly kept hearing the noise. It was kinda deserted road (rarely any vehicles) and there is a corner where i slow down. I guess i wasn't hearing the noise at other places because of the noise from other vehicles and the helmet are too powerful to nullify the noise. Anyways, i've no idea where the noise is coming from. where could it be? what should i do ?

there is this somewhat steep slope which i travel by daily. while going down, i usually go slow with 0 throttle and hand always on the brakes so that the vehicles coming upwards from the other side may maintain their speed (narrow road, no dividers). today it was empty and so i upped the throttle and the speed went up to 70 in no time. then i let go off the throttle and the speed dropped to 60. had to be engine brake and so i pulled the clutch. the engine revving sound was gone, but speed kept dropping, to around 50. is this normal ? do the fat tyres bring about this much friction ? or has the whistling noise got something to do with this ?
