    • Taken to Redline!

As usual unpunctual! As per plan i was suppose to start by 6:00AM, started only by 6:40AM. But where? where else a bangalore biker would love to ride in the early morning? obviously Nandhi hills. I was sure i am going to miss the early morning fog. On the way asusual lot of eyes poped out. After crossing the airport the needle started kissing the redline in 4th and 5th cogs.
@10.5K rpm in 5th cog managed to touch 143kmph, and shifted to 6th cog the rmp fell down and refused to touch even 9.5K rpm. and 147 was on the speedo suddenly enigne gave up felt like out of fuel , confirmed 4 bars in the fuel gauge. Still could not guess what happened . By that time i reached nandhi hills diversion so could not check again. Decided to confirm it on the return run.
A tempting S curve always welcome me when i entre the ghat section. Since it is a weekend oncoming traffic would be more and one cannot push hard. Though, I made sure saftey and entered at good speeds at most of the curve. Boy the baby was stable like a baby on all fours. I remember i used to dance on the gear lever to maintain a good torque flow with my apache, this was not the case with our CBR. Twist the throttle, boy zooms forward, climbs like a mountain goat. Reached the peak soon. Anyone who followed me would have thought just for having a tender coconut i came this long so fast. I started back soon after finishing the tender coconut.
The brakes worked perfect during the decent even though i carried some speed, no skids no scary moments (mind mine is not a C-ABS). I was determined i would push hard to check if there is really some problem at the top end. As soon as reached the NH turned the other way for some nice stretch to pushed hard and could only reach 147Kmph as head wind was high, took a U turn then again tried this time I touched 150 Mark and the engine did not die this time. I was little happy ensuring no problem. But i should say i struggeled more the the bike to bring it to 150Kmph. Hope will loosen up after some miles.

I am still confused about that stall at top end, any guess anyone?
Hope will visit there again tomorrow with friends for some pics.

Regarding the Extended warrenty can anyone tell me the extended warrenty period ?

None of my friends are in town, so if any chennaite wants to accompany me I would be grateful and glad.

Congrats buddy after all your cribbing and screaming about honda you got yours now ! Anyways do take a check list before you do your PDI and also check the engine no or chassis no to cross check whether the bike is yours

Be very careful; this is what happened to me. When it happened for the first time, were you able to start it immediately? Can you explain in detail?

my CBR used to stall initially for 200 kms! but after that i did not experience such problem! if ur bike still stalling even after the first service then , i think there is something seriously has to be looked into!

When it reached 147 in 6th cog, the engine lost breath as if fuel was cut, and speed decreased to 135 and the engine started breathing and everything was fine after that. It did not came to halt though. It was like some faulty fuel injection, not sure. But after that as i said i was again able to do 150 without any problem, and it ran fine for next 80+ kms after the incident.

              • The fall in RPM when shifted to 6th gear most probably is due to the tall sixth gear. The 6th gear is for relaxed cruising. I guess CBR reaches 130 in quick time and takes time to reach top speeds and I feel its very normal.

Regarding the engine shut off, once I red lined my ZMA and the engine was shut off. After 15 minutes, it started again. May be the CBR's engine is designed/programmed to shut off if it reaches the rev limit.

                • Thanks bro, I will check T.Nagar But do update your friends comment too when he's done there

Kinda puzzled, Am I the only one whose not finding the CBR gear's butter smooth ? I already showed it once to the Erode CBR trained mechanic! But he is quite clueless! Hope the Didar guys show some hope!

i was told not close the accelerator(full throttle) completely as there would be decrease in speed due to fuel injection, but to hold it slightly less to attain maximum speed ! i dunno if that was true! experts plz throw some light!

I've not seen a decent tankpad in any shop in JC Road. Doesn't mean I've checked in all shops though.
Orion Yamaha is the best place AFAIK. They sell Keiti tankpads. But they were not having any stock last week.

                          • Finally!

Alright folks, finally got my Red (non ABS) babe delivered on the 22nd. It just had 3km on the odometer so it was fresh out of the plant.. so much so that the PDI guy even connected the battery cable in front of me.

Anyway, rode her for around 40 km on the first day itself. Felt very smooth. She handles like she is on rails! Amazing throttle response.

Did a hard break-in on the second day.. Warmed her up for about 30 - 40 minutes.. after that ripped her with sudden bursts of speeds to visit the redline a few times and braking till it came down to almost 2 - 2.5 RPM. Felt no stalling whatsoever at high RPMs as well. Amazing how the bike makes u feel comfortable so fast! Continued this for about 20 - 25 minutes.. Reaching a top speed of 135kmph. She just does not run out of juice! That's how i like them . After that just let her cool down riding her at 4-6 RPM for a while before calling it a day...

Did (or was compelled to do) something similar on the third day as well but off-road. Got lost on my way cuz we planned to take a short cut en route Lavasa. We didn't get anywhere even close to Lavasa but we did end up doing mountain terrain biking. lol.

Anyway, the bike has done almost 160 km on the odo now. Planning a ride to Lavasa over the weekend if time permits. Might have Krishna Raghunathan join me on his new shining-black Ninja 250 as well.. Should be fun!

Planning to get the oil + oil filter changed at around 250km (cuz of the hard break in). Any suggestions otherwise?

P.S.: For prospective buyers, I've had no problems at all till now. The only common thing I noticed was knocking till around 3 RPM. But I anyway like to rev the bike a bit.. so feels normal to me otherwise.. My bike is fresh out of the plant so may be they've tried to rectify most of these reported errors in the newer bikes. May be... just saying...

P.P.S: Just got a call from the dealer saying that my reg. no. had come. I've always been lucky with this. I never pay extra but i get a good number... Well at least doesn't look like a random number..
This beauty will have a tag of 155.. Not bad, eh?

                            • For tankpads, Do a search on ebay.COM and not ebay.in. You will find plenty of them who will send them across to india for free or at nominal charges (1-2 dollars). I got my CF look gloss tank pad for some 600 bucks I guess. Worth more than what I paid for it.

Not heard anything until now. I could be wrong, but its Didar in T.Nagar or Valluvarkottam.
