Oil turning black is normal, but if you observe oil turning white, like a latte shake with foam, then you have problem.

    Your bike is absolutely fine.

      Thanks @kannanmr16.
Well, I test rode both bikes today. A black 2011 and a tri-color 2012. Following are the observations -

Black (2011) - - Scratches on the tank and front fender

      - Rust on the chassis at almost all joints

      - Peeling paint on the handle and engine area

      - Radiator fins completely flattened

      - Loose panels

      - The plastic round cover on the bold between the clipons broken and rust underneath

      - Very smooth engine. revved up to 8000+ easily.

      - The low RPM expected Vibes seemed to continue post 3.5K RPM all the way up.

      - Expected knocking under 3K RPM (2 & 3 gear)

      - Good acceleration (as is expected from a CBR)

      - Gear shift was OK. Cannot recollect any issues or a memorable butter smooth experience (coming from an RE owner)

      - The horn was such that I jumped out of my skin the first time I used it!!!

      - No rear view mirrors (no plug to close the open holes). Does not know where it is even.

      - I tried peeling off the Carbon Black cover from the wind shield and he just watched and let me !!!

      - Both disk rotors has a think film of oil.

The Owner seemed more like a poser. Did not even know which engine oil is used. Said he did not go to the service center earlier than evening (to avoid sun) and let them keep the bike and do whatever is needed.

Over all a negative experience, but the engine seemed good.

Tri-color (2012)This guy seemed genuine. Knowledgeable about the bikes and specially his bike and her health.

      - Physical condition of the bike is good.

      - No new paint, not much wear and tear. So all genuine and OK.

      - Straight asked him how many friends rode her? Answer was me and my bro - I believe him.

      - Explained that he brake pads are new and hence braking would be a little not up the expected mark.

      - Explained that the ABS light goes off after 10 KPH and to wait for the other orange light to go off before starting the engine.

      - The engine - The engine did not have any additional noise but was quite audible over traffic too.

      - Was much more audible than the other CBR and any CBR I test rode at the showroom. (Very similar like the Avenger 220 street I test rode)

      - Just refused to rev more than 6K RPM. Could have, but I really did not want to do a T.W.O in neutral. But I certainly tried a little harder than the previous CBR.

      - Gear Shift was butter smooth.

Challenged him in a friendly manner. And he was at a loss of reply and just said so bluntly. Offered to take the bike to the Service Center and find out the issue and cost of repair. Agreed for me to accompany him too. Did not seem worried about the sale, was more concerned what could the reason be. I don't think he has ridden any other CBR so thought what was, was OK. Monday we are going to the SVC.

I told him it could be worn out SHIMS or Some Spacing to be set. He said the SVC did tell him something about SHIMS (1200 cost + 1800 Labor) but as per him memory it was not changed till 17K (the bike's current ODO). They might have not pushed just suggested and may plan to change next time. (Guessing)

      Conclusion
I trust the second guy more. he knows his bike and has some respect for it. The first one was fish out of water expect the term ABS.
If the Service center says it is a normal wear and tear and the Sound and Rev issue can be easily solved. I will ask his to get it done and then do the deal at expected price.

      Your opinion please!

It is not ownership, but I am really hoping to tap into your collective experience and become an owner.

      Regards,
      SC

Hey guys, do any of you take the bike to SVC for cleaning and lubing the chain? How much do they generally charge?

I would suggest, getting an paddock stand and lubing yourself.

Cleaning and lubing in SVC is a waste since they simply spray the cleaners and wipe with cloth and immediately spray the lube and hand the bike over to you.

There was a video posted on how to do chain cleaning and lubing here, it's a revzilla video. Wtach it and better do it yourself.

I will be getting a paddock stand soon buddy but till then I don't have any other option
The chain has not been cleaned and lubed since I took the delivery 40 days ago.. They didn't do it in the first service too
How much do they usually charge? So that I don't get ripped off..

It actually varies from SVC to SVC, some places I have seen 100-150 and some charge as high as 250. But it should be within this. I'm talking about my city - Chennai

                          Guys

I have some issues with my 50days old CBR..1150km done..I can hear some sound from front section of my bike...sound like a keychain hitting a metal...i can hear the sound when my bike goes above 4k rpm and on bad roads...I visited SVC yesterday and the mechanic said it's coming from the front disk pad...he then cleaned the brake pads and the disk plate and returned my bike...did a test drive and the sound was still there...went back again to SVC and the mechanic said 'sir aisa awaz sab CBR mai hota hai' and I was not convinced with the answer...what I feel is the sound is coming somewhere from the fairing and I am not able to figure it out...have any of them experienced any issues like this? I will be visiting another SVC tomorrow..I hope the issue will get resolved.

                          Regards,
                          Rahul

The only hitting noise which would come from the front section on my bike was from the front No. Plate as it tends to get a little loose and start hitting the mudguard on bumps.

Otherwise no such sound in my CBR.
