Re: Honda CBR 250R
Bent radiator fins don't affect cooling to any significant extant. My fins are bent since I bought the bike. I don't even clean the muck from the fins that often. Radiator guards are necessary only if you do lots of off roading, IMHO.Originally posted by sanjaynk15 View Post

my CBR is 1450 days old with lot of bent fins.. doesn't matter.. dont bother spending money for the guard..."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

Re: Honda CBR 250R
as stated before bent fins doesn't really matter much rather you should be cautious of mucked /choked radiator. so after rain rides just spray water gently on raditor after letting it cool a bit and if needed rub with a soft bristle tooth brush...Originally posted by sanjaynk15 View PostThank you guys! never use diesel/kerosene or petrol to clean it. it can be life threatening if the radiator is hot...
change coolant every 20,000 km compared to 35k of manual due to heat in india and bumper to bumper traffic."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

Never used one in 5 Years never needed one .Originally posted by sanjaynk15 View PostHey guys, has anyone installed a radiator guard on CBR? Is it necessary? My CBR is almost 40 days old now and I can see bent fins around the center and left part.. Struggling to straighten it out.
Do I have bent fins ? Yes I do.
Do I care about them ? Nope. As long as temperature bar is in 3 don't worry about them
Should I try to straighten them ? Nope don't try to straighten then you might end up damaging the radiator
Ever replaced radiator ? Nope.

Re: Used or New? Used CBR PDI List please!
Thanks for your advise. And yes this is what most people are also saying. Checked and found that it is a August 2011 purchase. From this thread I gather that towards the end of 2011, Honda sorted out the initial niggles. Is August 2011 safe from the Batch-Count point of view? I know I am going really Objective here but need all help available.Originally posted by arvstreetracer View PostStay away from 2011 early models. Try finding 2012 or later models.
Thank you,
In Goa, I really have only 2 options with ABS. Rest are all either Std or heavily modded/ stickered by owners who keep repeating that they are super-bikers.
The 2012 model is used by a student and after talking to him found out that he is not the X-Bhp kind. Did not even know the Engine Oil used in the bike. Also when I pointed out the Headlight Cowl sticker missing (on phone), he actually went down to check and said, yesss... might have got removed. So I am a little skeptical regarding the maintenance of the bike.
Since it is a substantial investment for me. Your thoughts and opinions are really, really valuable.
Would love to go for a new one and break-in the engine properly, but budget constraints. Planning to use the cash I get from Selling the TBTS 500 for the CBR.
Regards.

The August 2011 model is the first batches. Stay away from them. 2012 models are better, and 2013 models have an ecu remap.Originally posted by Exhaust_Note View PostThanks for your advise. Re: Used or New? Used CBR PDI List please!
Just for the sake of being well educated regarding the CBR in India. What issues does the first batch have? I am aware of the SHIM replacements and Brake issues (STD only). Apart from some ugly welding visible?Originally posted by leech View PostThe August 2011 model is the first batches. Stay away from them. 2012 models are better, and 2013 models have an ecu remap.
Are there any technical issues which can be expected post 17K KMs? I mean I buy this (suppose) and then the first batch ghost comes to bite me?
I was thinking if I test ride the bike, what specific areas I would need to focus on considering it is a 2011 batch bike?
Please don'd mind. I do not mean any offence or disrespect. A few owners are also saying that not all bikes of that batch were bad.
Apart from the 2 issues mentioned above (SHIM and Std Brakes), all I hear is
- Knocking at low RPMs - Rev happy engine, new ones also would knock at sub 3K RPM
- Some electrical issues - Quite Random
- Cost of spares - they are non wear and tear.
- Conti-Go tires - not a bike defect
- Welding marks can be seen - Hmm... I have been using a royal enfield, so can live with a few visible ones
But considering the limited options I have, just want to make sure I do not let a good one go.

You're quite informed. Do ask for a slightly longer test ride, and see if you can ascertain any undue noise from engine or fairing.Originally posted by Exhaust_Note View PostJust for the sake of being well educated regarding the CBR in India. leech - the entire credit goes to X-Bhp for the information
Thanks for your line. It makes me feel a little positive towards the test ride planned for tomm. Will try to rev it to 8+ in 2,3 at least. 4,5,6 might not be possible as that would mean a long ride to open roads.
Will update TD of both bikes under consideration.Alwyn Pushpak

I bought a 2011 model just a month and half ago, it doesn't even have shim issue, as one other CBR owner from here tested it.Originally posted by Exhaust_Note View Postleech - the entire credit goes to X-Bhp for the information

Previous owner did not run much (only 6k km in 5 years). But he has regularly serviced it with a well know mechanic (jsp Honda- Rajesh). That's all is actually required for this bike, regular and timely maintenance.... Make sure you check that and where it has been serviced. SVC can also tell you of the bike has met with an accident.
Couple of things that I had to shell out after getting the bike is
1. Rear tyre, had a crack in it....since it has been parked for a long time.
2. Front right fork leaked oil a few days after I got it, changed it.
3. Right faring had some scratches, got it replaced.
That's about it. Planning to change the break pads. But it can be managed for now. Gave a mileage of ~30 in city and ~38 on highways mostly.
