• Re: Honda CBR 250R

Hi Everyone,
I took my CBR 250R Repsol delivery today and drove to office for about 15 Kms.
I am not sure if this was discussed already and wanted to share my observation. After driving about 20 mins I stopped at a signal and killed the engine using kill switch but leaving the ignition key ON. After few seconds I felt little vibrations on the bike. I turned off the ignition Key they were gone. They came back immediately after turning ON the key again.

I suspect it to be the radiator fan running. But here are couple of questions from a previous RE owner.
1. Does the fan run even after engine is killed using the Switch?
2. Is this normal with all CBRs? or should I get something checked?

First of all congratulations on your bike mate!
The fan doesn't run when the ignition is on but the engine kill switch is off. If the bike is hot, the fan will run when both ignition and kill switch are at "on" position. The second thing is it might be the fuel pump priming. When you kill the engine by the kill switch, and again turn the kill switch to on position, the fuel pump primes the engine. This might be the cause. But if u didn't turn the kill switch on and still the vibes where there i am not really sure what is causing that..

Thanks Sanjay, I wanted to test this again while going back home, If it is really occurring when the engine kill switch is OFF.
Spoke to a friend in office who also owns a CBR, He mentioned the same reason as yours. Waiting to close work and head back home. I will update after reaching home

Congratulations on your new bike.
As I have seen in my cbr, the fan starts only if the bike is hot and when you have both, the ignition and the kill switch on. Once the kill switch is off, so is the fan.

Let me add a few details in here @sanjaynk15 @Naveen Borra. First, off the fan comes on irrespective of the kill switch is on or off, in the CBR. Only turning the ignition of would the fan turn off. The engine kill switch is to kill the engine not power to the entire electrical circuit. Secondly, if you feel a small twitchy thing under your leg that feel a little vibey when the engine is off means your radiator fan is probably on.

The fuel pump primes for hardly three seconds and they aren't any source for vibration at all. The fact that you mentioned you stopped the bike with the ignition on and the with the kill switch off and something vibey is nothing but the humble radiator fan doing its work. Nothing to panic about. Since you were used to riding the REs, you'll get used to riding your more technically advanced bikes in the days to come.

Cheers!

You mean - you bought it before 31st March ( paper work ) and got the bike today or you did all on today ? Is BS3 not supposed to sell after April 1st?
BTW , is it a BS4 ? Didn't heard one coming.
sambit - Congrats brother . Happy miles ahead

I dont know if something is wrong with my bike from the very beginning or you are confused bro but, in my 5.5 years of ownership i have found that fan works only when engine kill switch is on. In off position it doesn't works at all even if ignition is on.

I appreciate your knowledge and experience and learn a lot from you but this is something you need to give another look at. [emoji4]

In my experience the fan only comes on when the engine is hot mostly in traffic or long rides, but when turn off and immediately turn on the engine killswitch you can hear the fan.

Same case with my bike. Even in heavy traffic when the engine is hot, the fan shuts off once the kill switch is in off position and doesn't turn on until the kill switch is turned on. I guess the fan runs continuously (even when kill switch is off) only when the engine overheats, which has never happened with my bike till now.

I know buddy but my point was that fan shuts off as soon as you shut the engine kill switch off. If the kill switch is in off position fan won't run irrespective of the engine temperature

Usually won't happen cause Honda has one of the best engine cooling systems, Even in the litre class , heard from a few sbk riders that the fireplace has the best engine cooling system in class.

Good point fellas. I retract my earlier comment regarding the fan switch. In fact did do a reality check here. I think I did miss on that one. Actually, in my case the fan was running as I stalled the engine with the "kill switch on" and ignition on, just entering my portico, the clutch stall. Usually, I always stop through the engine kill switch and then proceed to the ignition turn off sequence. Since and because the bike had already stalled with the fan running, I might have misjudged the fact that the fan was indeed running with the engine kill switch off. Thank you so much fellas, else I would have been still under the impression I did turn that kill switch off. How did I miss that one. Deathwing that's a Fireblade, darling.
@sanjaynk15 @RedWingRider appreciate it guys.

Same with mine. Fan goes off once kill switch is off since day 1. Many of us can't have faulty bike having same experience with the fan being on and off.
