I assume the chain slider did hit this metal ring on sprocket cover first and then it protruded and exerted enough pressure to bent that magnet cover near mating surface. That metal ring on plastic cover is flattened at some places as well as protruded outside.

Before that even I tied that hanging piece with my office ID lanyard, but soon it got cut off due to friction.

Apart from that I regularly clean that area and the mating surface was never exposed earlier. Paint is also peeled off randomly along with the mating surface on magnet cover. It was never like that. It was all smooth earlier. You may check others too. I will also check my archived photo gallery if I have shot some pics while cleaning it earlier.

Yes that's the sprocket cover, which has a metal outline (for a a lack of better term) But, the reason I said is because I've seen casing cracked due to warped and broken chain, but a slider is what I was little curious on, Arvind. But it's nice to know that this issue can and might happen and so what can be done, though I would like to keep an eye on this issue...

Guys I need a opinion here... I have did my first service @700 kms and current odo is nearing 3K and I feel the gear is little clunky now... Can I opt for an oil change..
Curently the oil am using is Honda SAE 10W30

One of my friend suggested motul 300v like it is good for summer conditions in Chennai ... So can I change to that now or I can wait till second service...
Kindly help me out on this

Thanks in advance ☺️

Another question is do I really need to change oil filter packing. Though the cost of it is just 68 rupees but still do I need to change it, is it an one time use type?

Hey bud. Oil filter should be changed everytime you change the engine oil.

About the rest of the issue, more knowledgeable people can give you better info on that better than me.

Cheers. Safe riding.

oil filter is 300 bucks change if not wrong and as per honda change interval is 120000 km ideally every alternate service.
its your personal choice if you want to go ahead and change it every time.
also if oil filter is to be changed then oil is to be poured in 1.5 L
without oil filter change it has to be 1.4 L.

motul 300V though being an excellent oil hasn't been the best for cbr. most of us use shell ultra FS and works well. however your engine is pretty new.
use the same honda oil until your next service . 5500 km on the odo minimum for oil shift.

The packing ideally should be changed every time, one time the mech forgot or was just plain lazy, and I got a leak around the filter area.

As for the engine oil Motul 300v, it causes leaks in some bikes, which you would know if you're reading all the forums.

I personally ignore clunky gear shifts and change oil at 4000 kms on mineral, 6000 kms on synthetic.

Personally, I've run the bike 18k kms with the same oil filter vs the recommended 12k change interval, due to unavoidable circumstances. It's too early to find out any signs of engine damage; one of these days when I get hands on some excess ₹₹, I'll experiment with how long the CBR 250 engine can go with Honda Throttle 10w30 FS before destructing. I'm guessing around 15,000-20,000 kms.

Before that, I got to order some engine parts, like bore and piston kit. Experts please chime in as to what other parts I may need to order for this experiment. TIA.
why in the world would you want to do that on that beautiful motor.
what data would you get by killing an engine ?
you are looking at good 40k minimum just in parts and it will never be as good as factory motor.

Just 150kms ago my m/c got an oil change. Because of summer(in Ranchi presently the temprature is around 40+) I switched to Shell Ultra 10w40 FS oil from Honda throttle 10w30 FS oil and trust me after riding 20-30kms after oil change, the difference is very much noticable. Its 3rd day after the oil change and the oil is doing its job religiously. Gears are engaging effortlessly, engine became much smoother, it revs smoothly and even sounds comparatively smoother. This is the 2nd time I switched to Shell and both the time the difference is very- very noticable. I use to get the oil changed in and under 3000 kms and oil filter changed in every 6000kms just for my personal satisfaction. Even if youre changing the oil brand or grade I would suggest you to replace the oil filter too. Though I guess Motul 300v would be an over kill and heavier on the pocket too. Shell costed me 650/- per bottle from apni dukan(amazon.in) so is 50 rupees cheaper than Honda throttle FS oil.

Most probably it's coming from transmission output shaft. Seal leaks. That seal costs 20 Rs. Check part number 37 in attached image.

I have changed to Honda throttle itself with oil filter and packing

Cost for change
2 litre(Used 1.5L)oil, oil filter, packing, pressure washer - 1772.00

Changed with the help of local mechanic and adjusted clutch to full. All work done for 60 rupees.

At least saved some money on labor cost [emoji12]

300V is purely an overkill for the CBR or for that matter any other Indian bikes. 5100 and 7100 are in fact best suited for the CBR, with the latter just loved by the bike. shan2306, first off clean that area and ride for a few kms and observe if you squirts of oil droplets/oil leak from the gear lever shaft oil seal area. If you find oil dripping and or fresh oil, then we have a leaking oil seal.

Secondly, this can be humble chain lube, some chain lubes start to liquidate upon rotation and they are just flung from the chain to the sprocket cover and flow down at the exact same place. Sometimes, we might misunderstand it as an engine oil leak (due to drain bolt being at close proximity for some bikes) and gear shifter being close. Just a read herring. But do inspect them for both chances and replace if necessary.

Cheers!
