Re: Honda CBR 250R
You r right and its a fact. Dirt does act as a barrier too. Usually iam not very comfortable with the idea of wiping before oiling. It tends to pack the muck in into and between the moving parts. What iam doing now is just dip a toothbrush or sponge into a pan of ep90 and brush it carefully on both the edges making sure all the orings are wet.. and I do this after a ride when the chain is warm. Not sure if iam doing it right.. Does pressure water remove the oily muck effectively??Originally posted by ashwinprakas View Post

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Psr sir, is it suitable for honda hornet 160rOriginally posted by psr View PostRegarding use of the Shell Rimula R4 the oil will do good to the engine. Regarding Viscosity doubts, always look at the Kinematic Viscosity which is an indication of how good the oil is under different temps..the lower the numbers the better the flow rate. The Viscosity Index is also an indicator of this..ie., the higher the index number the better.
For instance the R4 15 w 40 has kinematic viscosity of 109 @ 40 C and 14.7 @ 100 C
The Shell Ultra 4t 10 w 40 FS has a kinematic Viscosity of 98.6 @ 40 C and 15.8 @ 100 C.
So both oil are almost same but R4 will flow better at higher temp.
The second important thing to note is the Additives in the oil ...
The Ultra 4 T 10w40 has Polyolefin amide alkeneamine borate 1~3 %...Alkylphenol 0.1 ~ 0.3 %.
The Rimula r4 15 w 40 has Calcium longchain alkaryl sulphonate <1 % ....Zinc alkyldithiophosphate 1~2.4 %....
So the Ultra has less of Wear resistance additives and latest Detergents , while the R4 has superior Wear resistant additives and more Detergents to keep the engine clean..
The R4 had been tried with good results in many vehicles including Cars. The decision rests with the user..
Good Luck.

Is it worth noting that the shell flows better at low temperature(40 deg). I mean close to start up periods..??Originally posted by psr View PostRegarding use of the Shell Rimula R4 the oil will do good to the engine. To use in Honda 160cc engine or not is a personal choice..
@ Foose Not just the flow rate, but the contents ie., additives and it's purpose, that will make an engine oil more preferable than another. Pure Gasoline recommended oil have very low Wear protection additives and detergents due to Euro specs. We have to remember the condition under which engines work in India is as stressed as us humans...the Air Pollution clogs filters, and fuel adulteration and decay contribute to a similar problem to the guts of the engine . So an Oil which has better wear protection and cleaning agents in it , is preferable to conventional oils...
Few have doubts of how only we are discussing using HDEO in Petrol engines in India and what is the scenario in foreign country... Well the fact is they had started using the Shell Rotella Diesel oil in Gasoline engines long time back itself for the same reasons...and have benefited from it..
Of course more war had been fought on the subject of oil than anything else in the world..

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Thank you psr sir. The Honda cbr 250 oe manual says that the grade should be 10w30 and jaso ma spec. It does not mention if the oil be mineral or Synth. I went to Honda asc and saw their oil, which says fully Synth and nothing else( not sure if group 3 , as 3 can be legally labelled as fs, but pure fs is not group 3).Originally posted by psr View PostRimula R4 had clocked 3K Plus Kms in a CBR250 , and also same distance in a N650...In my Lancer Petrol Car it had done 5 K Kms without any problems

Servo also has 4T 10w30 which is group 3+, and Synth blend. Would request sir, your esteemed opinion also, whether I can go as per oem and use servo, or use Honda oil which may again not be a true fs. Moreover, the servo is api sm and jaso ma2( one step ahead in spec than honda). Thanks in advance sir.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
There is one video on YouTube by uploader delboy s garage. He explains such a situation where something upset his busa's forks and I guess he loosens the head nut and presses hard with his palms on the nut a couple of times and alignment becomes fine once again. Kndly look up the video on that name and key words fork alignment etc.. saw it a long time back. Hope iam suggesting the right thing. Will try to post link if I get it.Originally posted by Satyajit Samantray View PostTyre pressure is on the recommended setting.
Will go for the alignment test.Any suggestions where I can get that done?

Havre you used tvs tru4 10w 30 synthetic oil, also can use hp racer4 synth ( semi synthetic )Originally posted by Foose View PostThank you psr sir. Re: Honda CBR 250R
No I haven't. The only pao oil I've used is servo synth( they boldly mentioned pao base on the can) in my fusion deisel car. The experience was quite different than what most others explain. Thanks for the info, will look up.[emoji106]Originally posted by #bpk View PostHavre you used tvs tru4 10w 30 synthetic oil, also can use hp racer4 synth ( semi synthetic )

Re: Honda CBR 250R
I had a report of a Honda oil user needing to change the Piston rings at 30 K Kms....I think the ASC just made money, though the customer did have problem of exhaust smoke and drop in oil level prior to rings change , which seems to have corrected after the rings change. Going for thin oil in tropical climates is not advisable since the part expansion is more and may actually result in thinner oil slipping past the rings as wear sets in. Temperature is one of the biggest enemy of engines and liquids used. Initially the CBR250 came with 20w40 but changed to 10w30 for better fuel efficiency and acceleration ...but it is at the cost of the engine over long periods of use. Most CBR250 Owners are Happy Using the Shell Ultra FS 10W40 oil.Originally posted by Foose View PostThank you psr sir. Even the Karizma, Splendor etc., all came with 20w40 , but now changed to 10w30 which is leading to engine wear over a period of time.
So stick to a reputed manufacturer oil with w40 rating with good additives to protect the engine. I keep talking about Shell because only Shell publishes MSDS data with actual additives and their Percentage in the oil. This gives a better understanding of what I am putting inside my engine .
Good LuckWhen Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.
