  • Re: Honda CBR 250R

Have to leave my cbr (2015, pre-used) for service for the following :

My odo approx : Around 27500...

    1. Fix oil leak through clutch case (for last 3 weeks the problem persists)
    2. Bleed both brakes with new DOT4 oil (Most of the times the brakes feel woody i.e., no bite at all)
    3. Speedometer console service (May be sensor error, have to check, but no odo and speedo works)
    4. Chain Sprocket full replacement (Never changed before)
    5. Air filter (Changed one time before)

    Preventive maintenance:

    1. Change Radiator coolant (Never changed before)
    2. Acceleration cable, Clutch Cable and Brake cables
    3. Brake pad check and replace
    4. Spark plug change

I thought it leaves Rs. 8 to 10K from our pocket... And i miss any thing in periodic maintenance please advice.....

As far as longevity goes, sure Himalayan is mostly metal but I've seen Dominars used for touring and maintained well. They're still as crisp as day 1. I myself got an RS200 and I use it for my occassional short rides like 250-300 KM's round trips. It acts as my sports tourer.

The price range also brings in Jawa (not gonna be delivered this year), UM renegades (heard of quality issues) and RR310 from TVS but that isn't exactly a touring machine, people managed it but I won't recommend it for touring with pillion.

Do let us know what you decide.

      Happy riding
      I booked the Himalayan

Since my CBR is not being used much these days, and its already 3 years 10 months old. Bike was showing difficulty in starting, Crank took longer than expected and meter went completely blank when cranking. Last sunday, I took it out after 10 days of hibernation to pick my father and the battery finally gave up there. First ever breakdown of my CBR. So apparently I celebrated father's day by making my father push my bike while i tried push starting it under hot afternoon sun. A roadside mechanic took out a battery from splendor and helped us fire up again.

New battery Installed Amaron 7AH @ 1150/-. Bike's running fine now.

So finally, after new set of tires, brake pads and chain sprocket, filters and finally, new battery installed in a bike that is up for sale.

The issue was mainly due to burnt stator coil.
Thanks to Honda Extended warranty i saved approx 3200 on this.
New stator coil is at 2800 plus labour charges it sums around 3200.
Photos of burnt coil front and back.. Notice the black residue. From there it was burnt.
Appreciate the update D.J. Indeed, the stator coil is a pricey affair on the CBR. Coils get burnt due to excess heat due to which they ground and then short, creating a black residue. If you smell those black burnt poles, you'd have burnt wire smell, so that's what's happened there. Now that you've replaced the coil, you shouldn't have any low battery issues.

Actually, your preventative maintenance should be the first to be checked and replaced. Coolant should be replaced, accelerator cable set and clutch cable can be changed depending on their condition. But, if you would like to replace them, very well, get them replaced. Brake pad, again, can be replaced depending upon the wear and usage. Old spark plug definitely goes to the bin, get a fresh plug installed.

The things I'd like to add is make sure your battery is in good shape, and make sure your cam chain tensioner is also replaced just in case. And if you haven't changed your oil, now is the time to do.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Fitting of brake lever and brake light switch is a bit tricky. Its the same for almost all aftermarket ones.

Thanks. Did you order the fold-able foot peg also. I think, if not foldable it may be bit uncomfortable when backside of the leg touches it. or it may be high for that to happen. How is the setup for comfort?. I want about a cm back compared to stock. I think once I fit this I have to go atleast an cm higher also?.

I did not order foldable foot-pegs coz i wanted to try these one first.

For me its not an issue. Legs hardly touch footpegs. And even if it does touch, it does not bother me.

Anyway u have to buy foldable ones separately. So first try these, if u feel d need, u can always order later on.

Regarding comfort, at the most comfortable position, it is still quite sporty. U will feel the difference. If u naturally like upright riding posture, u may dislike it. If u r sporty types, u will love it.

I have installes it for two primary reasons. One is i hv started doing track days. Secind is stock brake pedal was too high for my comfort.

One more thing, under right side footpeg bracket, i put 3 washers under the bracket. both bolts, otherwise, rear brake master cylinder assembly was going too close to swingarm.

Overall i am happy, i was a bit skeptical initially, coz footpegs were held in position by single bolts, till now no issues. Have only done one ride of 120 kms

Also u have to install it, check its working properly, and check its setting, once everything is ok, u have to remove each and every bolt, and reinstall it after applying loctite.
