Might be because you're paying for an Ignition lock, Fuel Cap, and Tailpiece lock. The Pulsar's set costs about 1.5~2k.Originally posted by alliwanted View PostMotorcycling Experience:

Re: Honda CBR 250R
nice trick with the chemical (probably turpentine or brake fluid ?)Originally posted by alliwanted View PostRosy has repaired thanks to Dr. He bought a dilutant which made the piece of wood thin and then using a sharp teeth stick we took it out. Still the lock is not totally free but it's working and I am able to lock and unlock.
I was afraid of removing the entire lockset if things wouldn't have gone right. But a Dr. is a Dr.
One thing I wanted to ask is why cbr250r lockset is so expensive?
i think it would still be better if you got it opened cleaned, lubed and put back for peace of mind.
the earlier model cbr's lockset was expensive (imported or whatever), and iirc since 2014 or so the lockset/price has dropped to around 4k. the older ones had a longer key compared to newer ones i guess. not sure though if they are interchangeable in case you want to replace it.
honda's parts are usually pricey.

Here is the link to proper owners manual.Originally posted by icarious View PostCan anyone tell me, what's the status of the shim issue that the CBR riders used to face? Is it rectified in the recent iterations of the CBR? And are there any such significant niggles / issues that I need to know before I finalise the bike?
Also, can anyone share the pdf of the Indian CBR250R user manual? I searched and the one I got seems to be the service manual. Would be great the more up to date it is. Want to go through it before I decide on the CBR
http://www.hondampe.com.au/docs/owning_a_honda/owners_manuals/motorcycles/CBR250R-RA%2032KYJE000.pdfExplore the entire Honda range including small cars, hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs. Fuel efficiency, style and reliability is standard!
Secondly, there haven't been any alterations to the new CBR apart from adhering to the BS IV rules and LED Headlamp and a two piston caliper up front (even for ABS) and a redesigned graphics theme and sporty looking 3D NISSIN embellished calipers.
The "shim noise" as its famously called for shouldn't be a deterrent in your purchasing decision. People have clocked more than a lakh KMS with this machine. In fact, it's the way the engine sounds for the most part, the stitching for noise that one hears at a particular RPM is how the bike is and isn't an issue per se.
Though I am not going to list out the merits of this machine, this thread itself is a testament to bike's ability and forte.
If you're planning to purchase this bike, I'd personally give it a double thumbs up. But do your homework before getting the bike, check out other options before taking the plunge.
A lot of us have post natal syndrome, when all of a suddenly a Scooty Pep would seem more powerful and practical post purchase. Just biker things you know.
Cheers!

The girl said, 'NO!'

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Shims if not fitted well rattle a fair bit, adds to the roughness to the experience of using the bike and ultimately effect the functioning of the rocker arms. Not sure if it had been changed at all, one way of avoiding the issue is by letting the bike warm up at least to one bar at the temp indicator everytime prior riding.Originally posted by icarious View PostCan anyone tell me, what's the status of the shim issue that the CBR riders used to face? Some issues that may face you are
1) Sensitive bike, runs well when its maintained, but one missed nut, screw, etc throws a tantrum
2) Poor conset, specially if you are using tank bags, wears out quite quickly specially in poor roads
3) Issue of parts, some parts still not available everywhere, check out your native situation
4) Front Mudguard + Delicate radiator, apparantly the front mudguard cannot stop much of the muck, at dirt conditions the radiator gets mucked fast.
5) Clutch, could be my issue, I have to adjust the cable tension every 500 kilometers
6) Mirror mounting bolts, they tend to get loose
7) Rust magnet, I was in Bombay for a while, spent more on lubricant than petrol
8) Overly complicated fairing, one part goes kaput, you may have to replace a good part along with the bad part.
9) Wiring and fuses, tend to blow up [ I did not face the issue but know of situations]
Overall good bike, but showing it's age, would recommend the r15s in alternative, the p 220 and the gixxer.

Yes I will be cleaning entire lockset. This process was done to free up some space.Originally posted by s1d View Postnice trick with the chemical (probably turpentine or brake fluid ?)

But end of the day it's a learning for me and others.
Every two weeks I spray WD40 to keep the locking smooth on all parts and also to keep it rust free. Its not the Bike that makes a Biker perfect, its a Biker who makes his Bike perfect :)

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Scrap the clip-on's, get a Pulsar handlebar and Discover/Boxer 150 handlebar holders and drill them to your stock CBR upper T plate.Originally posted by Riddle Rao View Postcan we raise handle bar??stock handlebar position is bit too much for my liking.coming from unicorn so its little achy feeling.
Here's a similar conversion I've done on my P220, in your case you would not require new cables or lines.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Would you recommend fz 250 and upcoming gixxer 250 . ( performance figures will be slightly higher than the fz, its a suzuki style of dominating yamaha, for eg gixxer 150 more powerful than fz 150)Originally posted by Manan View PostShims if not fitted well rattle a fair bit, adds to the roughness to the experience of using the bike and ultimately effect the functioning of the rocker arms. Was quoted 4500rs for the left side switch replacement.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Just leaving this here hoping that someone might find it useful.
Here's a spare oil filter I had from my Discover 100 4G days, it is made by Purolator;
The filter has been in storage for over 5 years hence the reason for the moisture stains.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Honda CBR 250R
If possible open the plastic coverings carefully and blast it with wd 40, and lube it with some generic electric friendly lube hardness means that muck has built up inside.Originally posted by Deathwing View PostGuys any idea of the cost of the left side switchgear, I. Re: Honda CBR 250R
Will do that, I guess the SVC just looking to make some money, even earlier, my bike had old fuel in it and it was like not revving up freely, and the SVC was like its a head job or somethin and quoted me 8-10k for opening the engine, etc, I just drained out the old fuel and put on some 97 first and voila the bike is fine and smooth again. And guys any knowledge on fuel pump kits? I came across one from Japan called Kemso, like a kit but it was not shippable to India unfortunately for the 250.Originally posted by Manan View PostIf possible open the plastic coverings carefully and blast it with wd 40, and lube it with some generic electric friendly lube hardness means that muck has built up inside.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
The right side switch gear costs approximately Rs. 1800-ish if my memory serves me right and the right side costs approximately the same. The CBR spares are comparatively pricier for the same equivalent installed on the other machines. I'd also suggest you look at bikes like Hero series as they share the switchgear parts bin on some of their bikes and you might find a possible candidate. Keep your observations posted.Originally posted by Deathwing View PostGuys any idea of the cost of the left side switchgear, I. E the indicator switch, high beam switch. Re: Honda CBR 250R
Sad story part 1- floods
Hi friends,
As all know about Kerala floods, I happen to be one among the flood ravaged victims.
Long story short
Day1. Severe rains block my way of escape to park my vehicles somewhere else.
Day2. Neighbors help me lift my cbr and park it into my home in the hall-- thought I did something very witty. Water enters inside home. Couldn't sleep a wink and had no option other than to watch my cbr drown inch by inch. The mirrors remained out for sometime but went down too. It was like watching Arnold go down in Terminator judgement day.
We witnessed the scariest moments of our life with rising water levels, strong currents, screaming sounds of people fleeing. No emergency numbers worked, no nothing. We yelled for help but none heard. It was like an apocalypse. No sleep, and were sitting in the first floor, not sure if we would live to see ourselves again.
Day3. Someone passing boat heard us out of the blue early morning and rushed for help.
A small boat belonging to a local fisherman came to our rescue and by the time water had reached till the sunshade. luckily, I did a rehearsal the previous night as to how am I going to make my parents, kid and wife from the first floor to the boat.
Managed to get all my family members to get on the boat. Seriously guys, this was the worst nightmare of my life. One false move and my parecpuld have fallen into 18 feet of water. Anyways, gathered my will power and we were all shifted two at a time to the nearest high point. I was the last to leave with some emergency medicines. Should really thank the skillful fisherman who landed us safely. Was relieved to see my wife, kid and all. Was shocked to see the calamity as I've never been in one.
We had to walk in the heavy rain and storm to the nearest relief camp where hundreds were waiting for help.
Post apocalypse- today was last day in camp as roads were cleared. The aftermath is terrible. Drove my family out of the place for good to inlaws home. Still.haunted by all what I saw and trying in vain to get some sleep.
Happy to be safe now and hoping to resurrect my cbr soon.
Request you gentlemen to advise me what to be cautious while my bike is worked in the asc in the presence of the insurance guy. Heard that insurance people will ask asc to service and fit things rather than replace in order to save their money. What all should be replaced for sure after underwater soaking?? Please guide me. Here are a few pics of my bike and home post the floods.
Recovery post will follow in part 2.. I hope all will go well without hassles..
