  • a few queries..

    hi guys,
    1) can anyone clarify if the cbr 250r needs a pollution certificate like any other bike?... i ask this because i was given a stamped certificate of "conformity with emmision norms - Non polluting vehicle" sticker by the dealer.

    2) my bike came without any license plates (neither front nor rear).. is this normal?

    Thanks

    3) has anyone here fitted frame sliders on this bike?
I wish I could ride every where i go..

      1. If you are in WB then yes (no idea about other state), need pollution certificate in every 6 months....when the previous one expired.

2.Yes....you need to pay for the plate in the showroom or you can decorate your bike with fancy no.plate from the local no.plate shop....as u like.

3.Me too....Looking for one....still now all I found that over my budget.

AFAIK any new vehicle doesn't need any pollution certificate for first one year and the non polluting vehicle sticker is enough.

Yes license plate doesn't come as a default accessory, you need to purchase it separately. If you are concerned about the front number plate you need not buy the front plate and remove the plate holder and you have large space in the front to display it.

I am yet to get a good frame slider which i haven't come across yet.

It will definitely serve the purpose of preventing bends from washing. but the guarding function apart from washing is also a concern .
I feet the guard worked well, Had to drive allmost 30 kms in rain and got a chance to check if that really works. today when i cleaned it, radiator was 95+ % clean and with pressure wash at service station, no bent fins.

I could clean with a tap pressure wash and didnt even touch it to remove the dirt.

I normally finish the cleaning with vacuum cleaner pressure air to remove all water at all the bolts/nuts (ex: RVM bolts prone to rusting), with the same i cleaned the radiator mesh and no chances of rusting on that too.

          • Just come back from a trip to leh. the bike was good. Only problem is the tyre compound that is to soft for the conditions. Got a lot of cuts in the tyre at Jojila pass. Milage was excellent around 37km/lt from pathahkot to sonamarg. Sonamarg to kargil i got 32km/lt. Filled the tank at kargil to brim and then filed the tank at Leh again. The distance approx 229km. Filled 4.3lts of fuel at Leh that works out to a milage of approx 53+. So bike performed better than expected.

Are you sure about the mileage of 53+?? are you sure that there was no calculation error??

No!!! Why would I? If there's something that can be learnt, I can; that was the point of the question.

+1; also, cannot dismiss the thought that, all vehicles run highly lean at Leh due to poor O2 supply. Yet, 53 seems to be a too much.

Am I the only joker to get a FE of 25-26 Kmpl in 7-8.5K RPM on highways ? I'm little frustrated because of this because I need to refuel for every 200-230 odd Kms & overall this reduces my avg speed. And I cannot keep riding in 6K RPM on GQ's; feels like riding a bullock cart!!!

Don't worry, you're not alone. At maximum I get 28kmpl.

                    • Ok; cool; I'm really disappointed with this kind of range!!! I was told that Kwacker gives certainly 300-340 Kms !!! Not just comparing or start a war, but, I'd certainly expect this damn vehicle to give atleast a 250-280 Kms range for those speeds. Otherwise, there's no point to ride in those speeds as it only tends to slow down. And each time you refuel for full tank, it takes good 10-15 min (esp when you pay through card, collect receipt; not just handing over Rs 500 & ask to fill) & when ridden in 6K RPM, it simply beats this speed!!!

I guess in the 6.5-7K RPM, the FE was slightly better, say like 28 or so, but, not sure. I'll check in another 2-3 days & post the FE figures when ridden in different RPMs.

                      Bladeboy - Same speeds

@pr4nav - 28 is slightly better I'd say; that's atleast in 250 Kms range; if you're sure that the range is 250 Kms, then, one can start hunting for a good fuel station, say after 175 or 200 Kms. Mine is ridiculous!!! Just 220-230 Kms.

allmost everyone on same page, i got 320kms (5-6k rpm) for 10Lts before 1st service, hope that improves after oil changes.

Whoa whoa whoa!!! Who ever said about riding on 10 lts? I thought the reserve is 5 lts as the LED blinker starts when its about 9 lts. Everytime the blinker starts & when I do a full tank, its 9 lts.
Edit - Infact that's a low FE; when I used to ride in 6K RPM, I got 35 Kmpl.

Now that provokes another question + have an incident to share...

Incident - Y'day I suffered without a fuel station for about 50 odd Kms. I'd topped & reset the trip at 0 & the LED started blinking at 246; I was hoping 280 & didn't expect this; but couldn't find any station until 276. Finally a passer by said its 20 more Kms; I was all eyes on the engine light & blinker than the road (risky, but, was more concerned about the FI & injecter burn than anything else); surprisingly it didn't complain until 296 & when I filled it was 9.83. But I was riding in 6K RPM upto 276 & 5K RPM after that.

Question - What's the real RED LINE to consider? Blinking LED or can the bike be pushed to a certain extent after the blinkers? If so, what's the limit?

Disadvantage of having digital fuel gauge even my RTR never showd me correct level . but why are you so concerned about diffrance of 2-4kmpl between your rides..? i think its absolutly normal .
Its not enough to know how to twist the throttle; you must have judgement to know when and where to do it.

Even then your calculation is wrong, (Main-9 +Reserve-5=14), capacity of the tank itself is 13 Ltrs (per manual), It may be 10+3, I did a full tank at shell when it started blinking, and it took 10.2 Lts.

I assume FE is low because it was before 1st service or below 500 kms.

My Karizma R was giving a milage of 30~ in first 750 kms and there after i could get a best milage of 48~ manytimes.

                              • Varies between 90 and 120. No gear changes. I dunno whether I am right! But Kwacker tank is larger than CBR. And out of 17L, Max of 15.5 to 16 can be used, Thats what I heard from the owners. CBR having 13L I presume max useable is 9 to 10L (Saying this after hearing the service engineer asking to maintain 3 to 4L atleast -> Not sure whether that represents the blinking bar ?)

CBR fuel tank setup and usage system still puzzles me With total commuting (only) in the City I sometimes get 20~24, Not more than that!
