it being a factory shipped problem in my bike, i had to ride it that way till 4.5k kms. So no worry about any damage as of now. But about cost and charging, talk to the ASC manager right now and get it cleared. If they dont agree, call the regional office and i think that will work out well. Though not too big amount, you shouldn't be charged for it as the bike is new. I remember the ASC manager convinced me (fooled me ) by saying, "you have bought a bike worth 1.6lakhs and i am sure you wont look at this nominal charge!" but then my bike was already 4.5kkms and i couldn't argue. I think they order the shims in quantity and wont be a problem once it arrives.

you should get your bike to the svc to get the current shims thickness and valve clearance to get the right shims thickness..
    i.e. current shim thickness (A) is 1.200mm (measured by a micrometer or a caliper), the IN clearance (BC) = (B - 0.16mm) + A
    C
Are you working for Honda anyways?
    thanks for help. Thats impressive.

nope, i learned it from books (most of Honda's workshop manual e-book) and practice of course..being a mechanic to my own bike actually (didn't trust any svc )

and for the available shim thickness, you can find it from the link i posted on page 610

        thx btw..

Works close to 750 Kms from my home; should be not more than 800 Kms from Chennai.

Edit - looked the map; why confuse so much Binoy; Chennai-TVM is cake walk. If you ride good, you can do it in 10-11 hours max.
Here's the map - Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to Trivandrum, Kerala, India - Google Maps
Yes @argee I meant that route itself. sorry didn't know how to save/post the maps links which caused the confusion.

If you can hear a tappet noise it mean a wrong size shim was installed while setting valve clearance so you need to install correct size of shim to solve this issue. I dont have any idea about tapping a shim i had faced similar problem which was resolve by REPLACING SHIMS so before proceeding pleas gather some info about this tapping and if possible wait for shims to arrive @ your SVC and replace them .

shim (mostly used in DOHC engine) is a part between the tappet and the valve (sometimes there's a valve bucket between shim and tappet [tappet --> valve bucket --> shim --> valve])

shim is used to adjust the valve clearance (when the tappet's adjusting screw are not present), and shim is used mostly in DOHC engine (some DOHC engine still use the adjusting screw)..

so if you heard some tappet noise, of course it will make a noise (b'coz there's a clearance between them)
but if it's sounded abnormal, it means the clearance is out of normal clearance and it needs to be adjusted..replace your shim(s) at SVC for free (if your bike still under warranty), and replace it with the shim(s) (with different thicknessabhiwar said, try googling about shim, tappet, dohc, if you really interested with those stuff..
or you can try to download this (http://tyga-performance.com/cbr250r/...S%20MANUAL.pdf) if you want to know what's inside cbr's engine
That's a good brief explanation guys. To make it more easy please go through this

My bike is also showing a sign for tappet adjustment/shim change. Bike is only 7.5K done. Is that the mileage of shims for CBR? So changing the shims at every 7.5K is a big ask and it costs around 1000Rs here.

              • the cost of one shim here in bangalore is in the higher end of rs 200. we need 4 shims for our engine. total would be 1000+ .. the whole set of different sizes costs in lakhs.

                • i find it's funny, since the bike cost so much, why would it needs so much another out-of-ordinary cost?

i don't have the cbr250r workshop manual, but i've seen some part of it
you can find it here (http://www.cbr250.org/forums/showthr...0R-Shop-Manual)
                      there's a link and a pass

what i have are cbr250rr (four cylinder), cb175, gl200, cbr150r (carb version), etc. workshop manual (found those from internet)
basically, workshop manual has the same essential..so you can try it almost to any bike with similiar spec

these is the jap's owners manual (you can find that it needs 1000kms running in period, and give some 4x.xxkm/l mileage)

                      • Got a call from the ASC that few parts probably related to the rear suspension are to be replacedin all CBRs', has anyone else received such a call? or any further details?

A kit containing nuts & bults (the ones which rust most often) & also certain parts for internals (non engine related) are going to form a kit & going to be replaced in certain batches of CBRs sold

Guys I got the KIT replaced today. They replaced the Grap Rail ( Though I am not able to find any difference in the New set) , all nuts n bolts present in footrests (Both rider n Pillion) the small Botl which is present just above the gear level and added two rubber caps to cover the RVM screws ( I think it is meant for preventing rust). To my utter surprise 1 got I litre of FS engine oil n that too free(Honda Throttle 10W30) .

I bought a Philips Xtreme vision bulb and got it replaced today . I didn't pay a single penny today. I was so happy to come out of the SVC today.

Couple of showrooms in Bangalore have already started getting this kit and they're replacing the things.
AFAIK, the kit basically contains the RVM nuts/bolts, grab rail, bolts on the saree guard and other nuts/bolts that are rusted.
