Q1. There are a lot of second hand CBRs available @ 1.20-25 lakh.
    a. Should I go for a 2nd hand at this price. Another thing I live in CHANDIGARH so bike is 1.49 on roads.
    b. There was a lot of complaints regarding the quality of the initial batch. Has the quality really improved. Is it advisable to get stick with new one ?

Q2. If I get a new CBR, I would really like to have it in HRC colours. In the auto expo they said that it would come. Any news about it ?

Please try to be sure before replying. I don't want any ones speculation, just authentic stuff.
1 a) The difference is only 30 K mate ! Buy a new one and you will be peaceful !

1 b) It is improved and even the spares are available at the moment !

2 ) Well websites claim that it would launch HRC colors by feb - march ..

Even authentic stuff can be made into speculations ! so no one will be sure about the HRC colors except HMSI itself !

I changed my front disk pads @ 3k. I rarely use rear brakes, so they are still very good.

        • For me its 80% engine braking with a slight touch of front brake
So the pads are still going good

          • Clip-on mods

Quite a few people on this forum and others have asked me for the method that I followed for doing the mods on my bike's clip-ons. The pros and cons of this mod have been discussed ad nauseum earlier.

Disclaimer: I have designed these for my comfort. I have ensured safety as far as possible. Till date, everything is fine. If some reader follows my route and ends up in a jam, I am not to be blamed - to take the call or not is the prerogative of the reader, not mine. This what I have done for MYSELF, YMMV.

            So here goes:

            1. Unscrew the end cap that is mounted over the tube - that round metal object with a square/octagonal bolt head which projects over the handlebar mounting plate. Be careful, the bolt cap is spring loaded and is likely to shoot out like a Jack in the box. To be safe and to avoid spillage of fork oil, place the bike over a block of wood or something similar to take the pressure off the forks completely.

            2. Measure the following dimensions:

            a) inner and outer diameter of the tube. The inner dia to be measured to include the inner threads on the top part of the tube where the end cap is screwed on. Outer dia is the dia as visible externally around which the handlebar mounting plate is clamped at the tube head.

b)the length of the threaded portion INSIDE the tube

            c) the pitch of the threads

            d) the length and pitch of the oil seal groove

            3. Get a solid cylinder of mild steel of the same outer dia as the tube's outer measured outer dia as at Step 2. If this is not available, a cylinder would have to be milled to suit this outer dia. Keep about 1.5 mm in mind for the chrome plating else the clamp won't fit.

            5. Depending upon how much of a raise is needed, add the height of the threaded portion and the height of the oil seal groove to this needed raise. So, say the threaded portion is 40mm in length and the oil seal groove is 3 mm in length. Say the needed raise is 60mm. So total length of the MS cylinder is 40 + 3 + 60 = 103mm. The needed raise will be dictated more by the slack available in various cables - accelerator, clutch, front disc brake - than by your choice.
            6. Once the cylinder is ready, machine the threads as per Step 3 at one end of it. Be careful here; it is better to ruin one or two MS cylinders than to ruin the threaded portion of the tube. The threads of the cylinder must match those of the tube exactly for the two to fit perfectly. A little less and the cylinder will be a loose fit, a little more and it won't screw on.

            7. Make a second exact copy of this first one.

            8. Once the machining is done, try to fit the cylinders to the two ends of the tube. Some minor grinding/sanding may be needed to ensure a snug NOT TIGHT fit. At this stage, a wee bit of of looseness is needed which will be covered by the chrome plating.

            9. Get the cylinders chrome plated. The thicker the plating the better. So, factor in the thickness of the plating before the threads are cut.

            10. After the plating, try to fit the devices. A little soap water might be needed. DON'T USE OIL OR GREASE - this might cause the cylinders to unscrew themselves later.

            11. Once the cylinders are fitted, fit the clip-ons keeping an adequate clearance between them and the fuel tank at the end of the steering lock. Also, if the windscreen snags with the front brake fluid reservoir, either lose the top part of the screen or lose the mod.

            12. Ensure a proper fit of the cylinders to the tube and and the clip-ons to the cylinder.

            13. Do a few rides to check the fit and feel. Make adjustments as needed.

+100 for this. This is the umpteenth time you are getting razzed, aargee. Why don't you just relax and throttle back with your horrible smileys and what not.

Umm, I don't agree to that in toto. Most tech info is readily available but it is the everyday practical application of this technology while riding the bike which is experiential knowledge and which this thread should be all about. Just because I say that the CBR's default tyres are horrible does not mean that others too have had similar experiences. Yet, my bad time may give them cause to evaluate their tyres better. It is all in the interest of expanding the knowledge base horizontally and vertically, though I agree, aargee can be quite annoying in his tone and tenor.

Guys let us not get into dirty things. We are here for a porpose & let it be that way. Getting personal with anybody is bad. As regards to RG, I personally know he is the one member here who goes out of his way to help anybody & trust me I'm speaking with experience. He has no business to help but still he does. We usually just comment on things & share our experience but he when asked for will take extra efforts to help people here & when I say extra efforts, I mean spending his valuable time again & again for hours, making phone calls, giving all sort of support, etc.
So please let us not demotivate him by our demeaning talks & let him be what he is.

apart from all the bickering going around here thank you very very much for Joel's ffe price quote . .now bout the the other performance parts please?at least we'll all know how much to start saving.12k might be high but we do get guaranteed performance I believe(and really import substitutes cost twice this for less perf.).
thou I would have wanted the quote to be a little more easier on the wallet.appreciate Joel's work nonetheless.

Thanks for the advice, I will keep it in mind. Now, some of the same from me for you:

Firstly, it would do you some good to take your own advice. For starters, you could abide by forum rules and avoid SMS language.

Secondly, kindly avoid CAPS; it is tantamount to shouting. I can do so and so can others. If you shout at me, I will return your gift to you.

Thirdly, the responsibility issue is a shared one. Which means that it is the responsibility of all members to keep the thread sensible and not pepper almost every other page with doubts and queries, which over a period of time, degenerate into punctilious cross-examinations. I have encountered this with the member in question and I rested my case when he started off with his infinite queries and doubts.

Fourthly, what you say about private discussions is correct; only the direction of your advice should be at the other end. If I have issues with you, I will write PMs to you and we can have a regular flame war but without sullying the thread proper. You may like to witness for yourself as to how this person had gone about his discussions on this thread and you will get the picture. You want to ask a zillion doubts? By all means, ask them. But, please, at least have the basic sense of propriety to ask those doubts in PMs from those who have caused those doubts to rise in your mind instead to writing pages and pages of it on the thread. Then, the distillate of this discussion can be shared on the thread, if the member is so altruistically inclined.

Do you use the same ID at erodov/css?
The stock seats are ok'ish...not too great. The first thing i did when i got the bike was extra foam for the seats. No complaints from pillions yet.
